Maple Stave w/ Body Futures, & Vile Bees
Maple Stave (Durham, North Carolina)
Since 2003, Andy Hull (baritone guitar), Evan Rowe (drums), and Chris Williams (baritone guitar, vocals), have written songs to overwhelm. In 2019, Chris Rasmussen (bass) joined to add even lower-end. Arguments, their 3rd LP, due August 2023, is an explosive amalgamation of what’s come before and a tense, heavy album of loud songs about difficult things. RIYL: Louisville, T&G, Unwound, aluminum.
BODY FUTURES
https://bodyfutures.bandcamp.com/album/maybe-its-just-the-weather
Mathy power-pop from Milwaukee, playing their first Riverwest show since the Before Times.
[Body Futures]’ draw is twofold: there’s the band’s loud and noisy sound, full of big guitars, big drums, knotty rhythms, and a single-minded disdain for current trends. (Are “Criminal Standards” and “Another Broken String” catchy-as-hell rock songs? Yes. Do they sound like anything else on commercial or indie radio today? Nah.) — Milwaukee Record
VILE BEES
https://vilebees.bandcamp.com/album/dark-age-dad
Buzzing and infectious indie-rock from Milwaukee featuring members of IfIHadAHiFi and Like Like the the the Death. 2022’s Dark Age Dad is a ripper that sends sawblades of guitar fuzz down your spine with a satisfying stomp, clap, and thump.
