Jon Mroz is a jazz bassist and vocalist known for his deep roots in the jazz tradition and his commitment to honoring the music’s foundational artists while also exploring new creative directions. Mroz’s love for jazz began early, sparked by a Count Basie cassette his father gave him. His first jazz record purchase was a live album by Brother Jack McDuff, which he described as “swinging like hell.” Mroz’s playing and singing reflect both technical mastery and emotional authenticity. He blends the rich, resonant tones of jazz bass with expressive vocals, creating a sound that is both rooted in tradition and open to innovation. His performances often emphasize the storytelling and human connection that jazz embodies.
