“Wordless songs of the soul written with a pluck and twang, telling the stories of my life. At 68, looking back on the history of the guitar, imagining the masterful lute player and painter, Leonardo Da Vinci, plucking his first notes in the 1460’s, I’m guessing the magical feeling he experienced was likely the same as I felt, back when I got my first guitar. It was a Gianinni, off the rack at Chicago’s Lyon & Healey in the 1960’s. I’m not comparing myself to the great Leonardo, I’m only saying that over the centuries the excitement of creating songs from the tangled web of notes of an acoustic guitar is likely the same as what Leonardo felt over 500 years ago with his lute. The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

In addition to playing guitar, Denny Rauen is considered one of the nation’s finest luthiers. Among the greats who entrust Denny with their instruments are Leo Kottke, Keith Richards, Michael Hedges, Buddy Guy and many more.
