SUMMARY:January 21\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:North Warren w/ The Nile Club\, Glowingtide\, & Odysseys. More info TBA Soon! \n\nNorth Warren\, named after the street he lived on as he began releasing music\, is the creative endeavor of Luke Esperes\, an artist residing in Milwaukee\, WI. His influences come from bands such as Harvey Danger\, Let’s Wrestle\, and Built To Spill making grungy indie rock with an emotional weight. His first single\, USPS\, was released in the summer of 2019 and his second single\, Overdramatic\, September 7th 2019. In the midst of playing a handful of shows around Milwaukee\, North Warren celebrated their debut album release with an extravagant diy house show at the place where the project began. \n \n\nTHE NILE CLUB is a group who writes and self records music for all people. Named after an abandoned pyramid-shaped nightclub on the backroads of Wisconsin\, The Nile Club is: Sam Walters\, Marcellina Star\, Chai Devlin\, Samwise Baker\, and Jack Lusk. The band formed as a trio (Walters\, Kaehne\, Baker) in 2017\, and began to combine their solo writing into cohesive music in a leaky basement. \nWith multiple writers and frontmen\, The Nile Club gives you something to blast on your speakers in times of both joy and sorrow. Subject matter spanning from tales of fantastical creatures to the wage gap to feelings of self-illusion\, The Nile Club speaks for the losers. Recorded and mixed out of basements in Sun Prairie\, WI\, their debut LP “Motions” came out in October 2019. \n \n\nGlowingtide: confused midwest loudrock \n \n\nOdysseys is also on the bill. \n\nDoors at 7pm\, Music at 8pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the CD Release of Master Luthier and Fingerstyle Guitarist Denny Rauen. \n“Wordless songs of the soul written with a pluck and twang\, telling the stories of my life. At 68\, looking back on the history of the guitar\, imagining the masterful lute player and painter\, Leonardo Da Vinci\, plucking his first notes in the 1460’s\, I’m guessing the magical feeling he experienced was likely the same as I felt\, back when I got my first guitar. It was a Gianinni\, off the rack at Chicago’s Lyon & Healey in the 1960’s. I’m not comparing myself to the great Leonardo\, I’m only saying that over the centuries the excitement of creating songs from the tangled web of notes of an acoustic guitar is likely the same as what Leonardo felt over 500 years ago with his lute. The more things change\, the more they stay the same.” \nIn addition to playing guitar\, Denny Rauen is considered one of the nation’s finest luthiers. Among the greats who entrust Denny with their instruments are Leo Kottke\, Keith Richards\, Michael Hedges\, Buddy Guy and many more. \nJoining Denny this evening will be special guests Special guest Peter Mac\, The Flood\, and Keep’n Open Mind. \n \n  \n\n  \n \n\nDoors at 7pm\, Music at 8pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Songwriter\, singer and guitarist John Sieger has a long resume. His band the R&B Cadets ruled the dance floors in Milwaukee in the 1980s\, playing a mix of his originals and obscure soul tunes unearthed by bandmates Paul Cebar and Robin Pluer. Their debut\, “Top Happy\,” for Twin/Tone Records\, turned out to be their finale. In the late 80’s his band Semi-Twang recorded for Warner Brothers Records. Both bands have regrouped in recent years and since then\, Semi-Twang has released three more collections of his songs\, most recently and ode to his hometown\, “Kenosha.” \n“If there’s an unsung hero in American Music right now it just might be John Sieger… His voice is a study in emotional grace\, one that touches all the places inside us that need touching… Sieger shows us that walking down a familiar sidewalk and grabbing melodies from thin air is a holy pursuit\, and then carving words into the music takes things right into an eternal quest for permanence.”\n— Bill Bentley // Americana Highways \nSubscribe to the John Sieger Benevolent Society and get a song every Monday! Check it out at www.patreon.com/JohnSieger \n \n\nIke Reilly is an American singer-songwriter\, musician\, and writer as well as frontman and founder of the rock band the Ike Reilly Assassination.[1][2] He started his music career with various rock bands near his hometown of Libertyville\, Illinois\, playing guitar for groups such as The Drovers in the late 1980s. After working for a time in music production\, in 2001 he released his debut solo album through Universal Records. He afterwards released several albums with The Ike Reilly Assassination\, including the well-received Sparkle in the Finish in 2004\, through Rock Ridge Music. He released his eighth album of solo material\, Crooked Love\, in May 2018. According to Mario Mesquita Borges of Allmusic\, “Reilly has followed a trail separate from most of today’s singer/songwriters — unlike other such artists\, Reilly prefers the harshness of intrepid rocking riffs\, sustained by ingenious melodies and exalting words.”[3] David Carr of the New York Times said\, “Ike Reilly is a kind of natural resource\, mined from the bedrock of music. All the values that make rock important to people—storytelling\, melody\, rage\, laughter—are part and parcel of every Ike Reilly show I have ever seen.  -Wikipedia- \nIke will be joined by his son Shane. \n \n\nArmed with little but a 6-string\, a harp rack and a stack of songs that harken back to the wrought folk rock of yesteryear\, Max Niemann packs a punch that is as heartfelt as it is biting. Roaming a sonic trail blazed by country punks and folk poets immemorial\, pre-Dylan on up through Tweedy\, Niemann follows in the footsteps of the American troubadour lineage\, propelling it into the present with songs that are as likely to strike a chord with the modern metropolitan as they are the lonesome wanderer. With his ever-evolving band of Fellow Travelers at his side\, the group provides rustic backdrops for the hard-nosed\, intimate stories of human joy\, suffering and striving that occupy Niemann’s songs. \n \n\nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $20

DESCRIPTION:All Messed Up XII\nFri. Feb 16th & Sat. The drawing was fantastic! Thank you to everyone who showed up\, signed up\, brought food– y’all killed it with the food this year!!– and offered to help with anything needed. I adore and appreciate ALL of you.\n\nThere were a handful of people not at the drawing. If you didn’t get your missing band mate contact info at the drawing\, or if you cannot reach someone (it’s possible I screwed something up too!) please get in touch with me.\nI’ll recap the rules once more here in case anyone needs a refresher…\n♫ There are a total of 16 bands\, consisting of 4 people each. The bands will perform over a two-night showcase at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn on Friday February 16th and Saturday February 17th (8 bands each night). Each band needs to come up with a 15–20-minute set of original music and ONE cover song. The event takes place in a bar and is therefore 21+ only.\n♫ Every year has an added stipulation that is like an extra challenge …. this year’s challenge is that your band must use props AND/OR costumes that relate to your band name or music somehow. Its pretty simple and pretty wide open as far as where you can go with that– If you don’t understand the challenge\, please contact me for more explanation.\n♫ If someone drops out of your band for whatever reason- DON’T PANIC. Think of it as an opportunity to team up with someone who isn’t a quitter\, or if you choose– continue on with just existing members\, a chance to be a trio\, or a duo\, or even a solo if that’s your vibe?\nshould you need to drop out contact me and your band. Should you want a replacement- Contact me\, and I will randomly draw from the reserve list and get you and your new bandmate in touch. We have a few reserves now who are just waiting to be your next bandmate\, but the list isn’t currently super long. If we run out of reserves- Think of this as motivation to recruit some reserves and do everything you can to make shit with your existing band mates work.\nYou may not recruit others from outside specifically for your band. You may not swap members with other bands.\nYou may not quit a band and sign up again as a reserve in the same year.\nyou CAN quit and come back next year in a band\, and everyone is welcome at the shows always. Also\, if you need to drop out of your band\, please let me and your band know as soon as possible.\n♫ Each band must name itself by Friday January 5th at 11:59pm. This must come in the form of a Facebook message\, email\, text message\, or written on paper. If you do not submit a name\, I will name your band for you. No amount of begging or excuses will change my mind. By this date\, I also need to know if your band can only play one of the two nights. I’ve got to make the schedule and get posters made\, etc…but I will try my best to accommodate bands with a schedule conflict. I’m juggling 16 bands so please keep show date requests to real conflicts– not just because you don’t want to play a certain night. Once the schedule is made\, I will not change it. There’s plenty of time to plan ahead.\n♫ To keep things running smoothly\, there will be shared equipment on stage each night. After the schedule comes out (after band names are in)\, I will begin asking for volunteers who want to offer up their gear. The following will need to be provided:\n– 1 Drum set\n– 1 Guitar amp ( there are 2 on stage I will be providing one of them but we need one more)\n– 1 Bass amp\n– Linneman’s PA system and mics.\nI know not every band fits this exact setup\, but it works for most people. Jim can also run instruments directly through the PA. You should bring your own instrument cables\, pedals\, picks\, drumsticks\, etc.. Jim has Vocal mics for us to use however if you’d like to bring your own feel free. As in past years drummers have been asked to bring their own sticks and cymbals. If you want to share drum gear\, thats cool- but work it out on your own. More on that once the schedule comes out.\n♫ If anyone would like to still sign up on for the reserve list\, WE NEED YOU!!!!! just message me via my Facebook\, the AMU FB page\, or email me (Jess) Olivekroha@gmail.com with your name\, pronouns\, email\, phone number\, and the name(s) of anyone who you absolutely cannot be in a band with (these requests will be honored and kept confidential).\nI can’t tell you how much the energy at the drawing warmed my heart and soul. You all are fantastic\, beautiful\, amazing creative humans and I can’t wait to see what awesome chaos you all create this year.\nWith all the new sign ups I’m happy to help if you hit a road block on your new band adventure. Please get in touch if you have any questions.\nand without further babbling …here’s the line up!\nxoxo\n-Jess\n\n\n\nALL MESSED UP YEAR 12 ROSTER:\nBand 1: Cryptids\nGabe Fritz\nBilly Williams\nIan Schmidbauer\nConrad King\nBand 2: Due Tomorrow\nRobert Anderson\nJacob Wild\nSam Alberts\nMary Beth Collins\nBand 3: Sungazer\nCory Tcheng\nTyler Burmeister\nHarley Jensen\nRobert Sinkey\nBand 4: ROCKODILE\nJUKE\nJohnathan Howard\nBrittany Johns\nBenn Rousseau\nBand 5: Kalospia\nNicholas Di Meo\nTW Hansen\nArielle Mayer\nAllyn Lottouzee\nBand 6: Brown Water Rations\nPatrick Havican\nZacke Lyons\nCrystal Rausch\nStephen Cerulean\nBand 7: Bathrobes ‘n’ Boxers\nBen Clark\nBrandon Chapin\nNaomi Seiler\nHannah Pardee\nBand 8: Schroedingers’ Pizza Place\nAraelee Berberich\nGarrick Jannene\nJacob McElrone\nPippin Caroline Walker\nBand 9: Sweaty Mannequin\nSteph Barnard\nJacob Otten\nJoel Kasza\nStephen VIncent Anderson\nBand 10: The Bag Lickers\nJasmine Mace\nCasey Nieznanski\nGary Struck\nMar Morannon\nBand 11: J3D\nDave Lucas\nJames Murray\nJamie Sodd\nJames Melchior\nBand 12: Mystery Planet\nIan York\nJess Kroha Anderson\nHope Wernicke\nOrin Alexander\nBand 13: The Lucky 13\nCharlie Shields\nBrittany Schwartz\nDrew Prusko\nJoshua Preston\nBand 14: FEMINOID\nLupe Gomez\nNatalie Walkner\nIzzy Veta\nRachel Orheim\nBand 15: Slutty Shel Silverstein\nThomas Janczewski\nErica Veto\nDavid Rangel\nTodd Schmidt\nBand 16: The Cheeseheads and Mary Jane\nTom Groff\nDan Kimpel\nBrian Johnston\nMatt Runquist

SUMMARY:February 24\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:At the intersection of Harry Smith’s Old Weird America – the songs of heartworn highways – and the tumult of today you can find the music of Luke Callen.  The songs – equal parts tragic comedy and hopeless reverie – paint a picture of the places and people that make up his earthly home.  A poet – a player – a folk singer – Luke has traversed his country unraveling tall tales – short tunes and all that’s hidden underneath. \nOriginally from the river town of La Crosse\, Wisconsin – the heart of the Driftless Region on the Mississippi River – and currently lives in Minneapolis\, Minnesota by way of Colorado\, Luke brings his humble sense of humor and humanity wherever he may go.  Luke’s second studio effort Also Going Nowhere is set to be released in the late winter/early spring of 2024.  Produced by Erik Koskinen and tracked at his studio – Real Phonic Records in Cleveland\, MN – it features Lauren Anderson (Bass)\, Chris Gray (Drums) – Franky Moscow (Keys) and Erik Koskinen (additional guitars).  This 11 song effort shows a maturity in Luke’s songwriting – a new sense of groove – and what all great records have…a little love\, a little pain\, a little laughter and few tracks for to dance. \nLuke has played hundreds of shows spanning both coasts\, the American west\, south and heartland.  He has had the opportunity to provide support for Dom Flemons\, Dead Horses\, The Dustbowl Revival\, Kacy & Clayton\, James McMurtry\, Whiskey Shivers\, Charlie Parr\, The Lowest Pair\, The Last Revel\, Lilly Hiatt\, Chicago Farmer\, and Robbie Fulks among others – You can follow his travels on Facebook – Instagram or in real actual life. \n“He’s Good” – Charlie Parr \n“You know I don’t ever do this…but let me get that glass of whiskey for ya – you’re good” – Storied First Avenue Bartender \n“You’re like…legit” – Eau Claire Sound Engineer \nThe reviews are in folkx – Luke Callen is a fine songwriter – singer – and player. \n \n\nLong Mama’s music blisters with the heart and grit of someone who has lost hard\, loved harder\, and licked her burns until they stung then silvered. In a drafty attic just west of the Milwaukee River she grew up on\, you’ll find songwriter Kat Wodtke (Wood-key) raking through notebooks in search of a salve: words\, stories\, and sounds to temper the dumpster fires we never mean to light. Flickering behind each song is Wodtke’s lived insight into our human faults & fissures – the moments in life when we can slip and lose our footing\, or claw our way out…better people on the other side of the blaze. \nWodtke coined the name Long Mama (after a prickly\, shade-loving cactus) and teamed up with guitarist Andrew Koenig and drummer Nick Lang\, a pair whose chemistry adds dusky afterglow to Wodtke’s musical landscapes. Upright bass ace Samual Odin came aboard soon after\, along with regular collaborator Eva Nimmer\, whose backing vocals blend so elegantly with Wodtke’s that one could mistake them for blood harmonies. \n \n\nJoe Wais (The MilBillies\, Sugar Bush)\, Laura Bomber (Laura Bomber\, Bomber and Red)\, and Tori Yocum make up Valley Fox\, a new Americana project out of Milwaukee\, Wisconsin that combines gritty string music with haunting\, stripped down harmonies for a fresh take on modern folk music. \n \n\nDoors at 7pm\, Music at 8pm\, $10
