DESCRIPTION:It was in 1957 that The Esquires musical group was formed in Milwaukee. Today the Moorer family is again generating the energy and excitement of the Original Esquires. Johnny Moorer is the leading member of the group performing out today. Their debut record for Bunky/Scepter was “Get on Up”\, (1967) which became a major hit in the United States\, peaking at #11 as a pop single but reaching #3 on the R&B charts. Following the release they played Chicago’s Regal Theater and the Apollo Theatre in New York City. Further singles were also successes\, and the group released one full-length LP. After five singles on Bunky the group signed a deal with Scepter themselves late in 1968. They later returned to Bunky and then\, in 1970\, signed with Capitol Records for one single (“Reach Out”) and Lamarr Records in 1971 for “Girls in the City”. They are a beloved and well known group originally helped formed by Harvey Scales\, and now consist of Rudy Jacobs of The Seven Sounds\, and Johnny Moorer\, the son\, who continues the musical legacy. \nWith special guests Robert Burks & the HTB. \nAdmission for the show is $15 or two for $25! With an atmosphere treading the periphery of pop\, the duo’s tangible vocal presence overlays hypnotic electro pulsations in a combination that teases out details of last night’s otherworldly dreams and tempts the waking state to return to its astral analog. \nNot quite definable by conventional genres\, their avant-garde sensibilities will appeal to an audience seeking a respite from the pedestrian daily grind and typical expectations. There’s an enchanting quality that pervades the work of this singing and songwriting combo. Their lyrics explore themes of love and desire; understanding oneself and one another beyond surface qualities; and questioning the status quo. With every track\, they’re suggesting we take another\, closer look\, because what we think we see and hear just might deserve inspection. \nAlso joining the bill is Milwaukee’s soulful Cullah & the Comrades\, and Oshkosh’s Horace Greene.

Since forming in the fall of 2011 in Appleton\, WI\, we’ve spent the last five years playing around Wisconsin\, touring the Midwest and East Coast twice\, and even opening for Guster at Indianapolis’s Old Egyptian Room! With a three-piece horn section and an auxiliary percussionist on top of a traditional rock rhythm section\, our sophisticated musicality and not-so-sophisticated humor has been described by Julian Loida of WIUX (Bloomington\, IN) as “the vibe of the B-52s and the Flaming Lips combined with the sound of Phish\, G. Love and Special Sauce\, and New Orleans music.”
