SUMMARY:April 12\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:Sam Llanas is an iconic American singer\, acoustic guitarist\, and songwriter. Best known\nfor his unique and distinctively soulful voice\, Llanas burst onto the national music scene\nin 1986 as part of The Bodeans. Their debut album Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams\, which\nwas produced by T Bone Burnett\, became one of the most critically acclaimed records of\nthat year. His voice was the cornerstone of their sound and was the heart of their tight\nharmonies.\nAfter 25 years of a storied career with the band\, including being a part of U2’s\ncelebrated Joshua Tree tour\, singing on Robbie Robertson’s “Somewhere Down the\nCrazy River\,” being voted best new band by the readers of Rolling Stone Magazine\, and\nsharing the stage with such luminaries as David Bowie\, Paul Simon\, Bob Dylan\, and Tom\nPetty it was time for a change.\nAfter leaving in 2011\, Llanas released 4 A.M.\, a stripped down\, quietly introspective\noffering that reflected the mood of the title. Once again critics were taken with the\nhaunting quality of his singing and his ability to construct concise songs with lovely\nmelodies that manage to say a lot with a few simple basic chords and a minimum of\nstraightforward words.\nIn 2014 came The Whole Night Thru\, the third installment (he released his first solo\nalbum\, A Good Day to Die in ‘97) of what Llanas calls his night music. While retaining a\nmostly darker tone\, “TWNT” also contained elements of his former bands most loved\nsongs (it was Llanas after all who wrote his former bands biggest hit “Closer To Free”).\nIn early 2018\, Llanas released Return of the Goya – Part 1. The title refers to his beloved\nguitar that was stolen in 1987. “ROTG”marks his emergence back into the light with 11\nsongs that harken back to his deepest roots. Most of the songs showcase his long love of\nclassic country music (his earliest musical memory is hearing and being mesmerized by\nHank Williams). These songs are a loving tribute to a style of music witnessing simple\nsongs with strong melodies and harmonies telling stories that resonate in the heart.\nLongtime fans will be reminded of 2 of his most beloved songs (“Looking for me\nSomewhere” from 1986 and “I’m in Trouble Again” from ‘87). “ROTG” is proof that after\nmore than 30 years\, Llanas is at the top of his formidable game.\nFor more information visit www.samllanas.com.

SUMMARY:April 5\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:Bill Camplin is a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist who began playing professionally in the Milwaukee Area in the late 1960’s. Bill writes and arranges his own material and has produced a considerable body of work. Bill was an integral part of the Milwaukee acoustic folk scene for many years and appeared regularly at various clubs including the Blue River Café\, Numero Unos\, The Crystal Palace\, The Avante Garde and the 19th Street Coffee House. \nBand Members\nJASON KLAGSTAD – Guitars\, backing vocals – Jason is considered one of the top live and studio musicians in the Milwaukee area and has been playing professionally for over 45 years. \nHe has been a member of several area and nationally known bands\, including stints with Howie Epstein (Tom Petty)\, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)\, Arroyo\, Color Radio\, Warner Bros. recording artist\, Semi-Twang\, Bill Camplin (since 1974) and the local rock band favorite\, Plumb Loco. His distinctive guitar playing style has been featured on many recordings. With Peter Buffet for example\, he recorded film\, tv and recording projects\, appearing on 3 Buffett albums and the soundtrack for the Kevin Costner television special\, 500 Nations. During his performing/recording career\, Jason also ran several area music stores\, including his own – Big Music\, a specialty music instrument store\, until the mid1990’s. \nBOB ‘HOT DOG’ MUELLER – drums\, stoicism – Forty-plus years on the SE Wisconsin music scene. The driving force behind a range of bands spanning Bill Camplin’s Woodbine to virtually every A-list blues combo (Short Stuff\, Billy Flynn\, Raw Rockers\, Leroy Airmaster) and Camplin’s current ensemble. \nPAUL WEHRLEY – Bass guitar – Although Paul played trombone in marching band while in high school\, he did not envision trombone as his musical nexus. A couple of friends needed a bass player and Paul\, always the organizer\, agreed. From 1974 – 1982 Paul co-founded and played with both RIO and Arroyo\, two of the region’s seminal Country Rock bands. His early immersion in that genre provided a deep connection with Bill Camplin’s material. \nAfter his four year stint with Arroyo he became one of region’s top studio engineers\, typically working out of Waukesha’s Breezeway studios producing albums for many regional and national Artists. During this time he also played for many years with local cover rock band\, Plumb Loco. Today\, Paul is a property manager and lives in Elm Grove with his wife Jane.

DESCRIPTION:Winding down a road of outlaw country\, electric folk and blues\, J.R. & The Strangers have been rocking southeast Wisconsin since their inception in November 2018. The seeds of J.R. were planted when Justin Jagler invited fellow singer-songwriter R.J. Neale into his home for an impromptu writing session. Finding they shared a similar sonic vision\, they quickly added phenomenally talented lead guitarist Jim Richie to the fold. J.R.’s unique sound was fully realized with the addition of Jake Stanzer on drums\, the gifted front man of Whiskey & The Devil. Focusing on personal stories and character narratives\, J.R. & The Strangers have been described as a “truly unique band” and an “alt country jam band with a strong focus on songwriting.” Justin Jagler’s solo work has been featured on 88.9 Radio Milwaukee\, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and CBS 58. Creative freedom and collaboration fuel J.R. & The Strangers’ passionate live performances and unique collection of original songs.\n\n\nThe Cow Ponies is a Milwaukee-based band founded by music veteran John Graham in 2015. The band’s set list includes both original music written by John (guitar\, vocals) and Tom T (bass\, vocals)\, along with old country\, alt country\, and cow punk covers. Andy (drums)\, Keith (pedal steel)\, and Robin (vocals\, sax) round out the crew. \nChris Haise (pronounced Hi-zee) is a mild mannered\, mildly ambitious singer/songwriter. His award-winning folk and Americana music is influenced by Bob Dylan and the Beatles.

DESCRIPTION:The Rogue Electrics are an original rock band from Milwaukee Wi\, heavily influenced by classic rock\, blues\, and alternative. Rock is not dead. Our musical inspiration is fueled mainly by the classic rock of the 60s of 70s\, but we also draw sounds from many other sub genres of rock like alternative rock\, blues\, progressive rock. As Tom Petty once said “Anything that’s rock and roll is right”. We classify ourselves as a rock band and leave it at that. We do not want to be tied down by one specific sub-genre of rock and enjoy the freedom of being able to use the influences of many different styles of rock bands. \nVarious Small Fires will open the show.
