DESCRIPTION:The Rogue Electrics are an original rock band from Milwaukee heavily influenced by classic rock\, alternative\, and blues. A rock and roll rebellion for the misfits who don’t identify with modern computerized pop music. \nPurposefully striding through a field of 60’s soul and guitar-driven blues rock\, Horace Greene has set up camp in Oshkosh\, WI where they brew their own unique brand of alternative rock n’ roll. The 3-piece\, consisting of Tony Oakley (Vocals/Guitar)\, Sam Swetlik (Bass)\, and Mitch Washebek (Drums)\, is quickly picking up steam in the Fox Valley area and has plans to expand their sound to the Southern and West Coast of the US. \nThe rising Milwaukee indie rock outfit\, Band of Dust\, evokes rustic afternoons and urban nights with suspenseful storytelling and confessionals intersect. It’s a sound that’s both contemporary and classic\, informed by influential artists like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers\, The Replacements\, and Strand of Oaks. BOD’s debut album Whispers Are Roars and follow-up EP Songs For All Blood Types\, has led them on a midwestern excursion\, with singles like “Blue Flame” rocking the radio waves. Now\, the infectious infusions of guitar and organ continues on\, boasting an expanded sonic template within a new collection of songs that pack an emotionally powerful punch.

If you are new to the this concept (or if you just need a little refresher)\, here’s how it works: \nSixty-four (64) people will be randomly assigned into 16 bands comprised of 4 members each. There will be a 2-night showcase of all the bands at Linneman’s! \n♪ ♪ ♪ RULES OF THE DRAWING ♪ ♪ ♪ \n♫ The drawing and potluck for All Messed Up IX will be held at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn on Sunday\, December 8nd\, 2019 at 7:00pm. \n♫ Everyone is invited to the Drawing\, not just the people on the roster. Bring your friends and family. Get them to sign up as reserves. Get them indoctrinated and inoculated. \n♫ I recommend you arrive by 6:30pm\, but not earlier than 6pm\, because that’s when Jim is going to open the bar. That’s enough time to get some food and mingle a bit before we get down to business. \n♫ I’m going to say it; the success or failure of the potluck mostly depends on YOU. I’m busy planning an event. I’m probably not cooking for all yall. I don’t care if you eat. I will provide things like utensils\, napkins\, plates. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. \n♫ There will be 16 numbered tables in the showroom. Come drawing time\, it’s fine to sit anywhere\, but when we announce the bands\, please vacate the tables in order so that the newly-formed bands may sit there and get acquainted. \n♫ DON’T BE NERVOUS\, YOU GOT THIS. DESCRIPTION:Two Old-School Wisconsin Punk Bands Team Up to Raise Awareness and Funds for Planned Parenthood Advocates of WI and Memorialize Legendary Milwaukee Musician Richard LaValliere. \nMilwaukee’s “loud and dirty grrrl band” The Six Wives of Richard (6WOR) makes its triumphant return to the stage after a two-year hiatus—accompanied by the notorious Appleton-originated (in 1982) punk-pop quartet The Daves—to support Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI) and pay homage to Milwaukee’s late musical genius Richard LaValliere. \nLinnemann’s Riverwest Inn\, 1001 E. Locust St.\, 53212\, will host the loud ‘n’ proud band bash starting at 9pm. All proceeds from the $10 donation-admission go to PPAWI to help elect pro-women’s-health candidates in 2020. \nLaValliere\, who passed away just under seven years ago\, has close ties to Veechka Star (Vicki Just LaValliere) and Connie Mielke 6WOR’s drummer and bassist\, as well as having been a mentor to\, friend of and collaborator with The Daves’ bassist/backup-singer/songwriter Paul McComas (band name “Paul Velcro”). Yet\, says McComas\, “Richard’s influence—and that of perhaps his best band\, the Oil Tasters—can be heard\, seen and felt in countless bands and musicians\, both famous and not-so\, who came of age in the early- to mid-1980s—the glory years of Milwaukee punk-rock\, new wave\, revival-rockabilly and neopsychedelia.” \nAmong the bands storming Milwaukee at that time were Red Ball Jets\, The Curves\, The Prosecutors\, and The Hunted—members of which came together to form 6WOR. Veechka played in The Prosecutors (featuring Kevn Kinney of Drivin’ and Cryin’) as well as in The Curves with 6WOR bassist Connie\, who recorded and traveled with The Hunted (opening for Plasmatics’ Wendy O. Williams). Kari Lueneberg\, known as “Molli Putz” while co-fronting the wave-a-billy Red Ball Jets and other bands in the early ’80s\, is the guitarist for 6WOR and the bassist for Silk Torpedo\, Milwaukee’s noted ’70s proto-punk glam band (founded by original Exotics guitarist Doug Chasteen). \n6WOR haven’t performed publicly in nearly two years due to the injury and—thank Richard!—full recovery of one of their members. \nThe Daves—Milwaukee drummer Tim Buckingham\, Madison vocalist Kim Hah\, Minneapolis guitarist Chris Murray and transplanted (to Evanston\, IL) Milwaukee native McComas—periodically converge on Cream City to rehearse songs like their LaValliere-influenced “(You Killed My) Goldfish” in Buckingham Palace\, aka Tim’s home on North Murray Ave. “At our debut gig\, on Halloween 1982\,” McComas wistfully recalls\, “we held a slamdance contest. First prize was a dead pigeon in a plastic bag. Second prize was a Rush tape.” He and Buckingham comprised the rhythm section for Taste Oilers\, the Oil Tasters tribute band that honored LaValliere while raising funds and awareness for animal rescue (a Richard-beloved cause) at Milwaukee’s Shank Hall in 2013 and Otto’s Shrunken Head Tiki Bar & Lounge Manhattan in 2014. \nThe two-band mutual-admiration society will culminate\, says McComas\, in “a once-in-a-lifetime tag-team night of loud-fast-and-raucous\, yet also catchy and hella-danceable\, tunesmithery. Don’t miss this sh__!” \nShow at 9pm\, doors open at 8pm!

With the departure of singer/songwriter Frank Chandek I was in the position to keep our garage rock attitude going. Chow’s drummer Dan Glaser and bassist Joe Polizzi agreed to stay on and we added our friend Jessica Erin to grace us with her sultry vocals. -Fly (Paul Lawson)

SUMMARY:November 29\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:Testa Rosa’s self-titled 2007 debut was a breath a fresh air\, boasting a series of well-crafted and unassuming pop-rock songs anchored by chiming guitars\, crisp rhythms\, and the knockout vocals of Betty Blexrud-Strigens. It was the rare local album with the courage to be pretty\, a quality that many bands in Milwaukee’s male-dominated and punk and metal-weaned music scene cross the street to get away from. In many ways\, Testa Rosa was a nod to the city’s college-rock past\, though the band never veered into full-blown ’80s revivalism. It was a record steeped into mood and melody\, and those attributes also form the foundation of Testa Rosa’s long-awaited follow-up\, II. \nTesta Rosa once again applies the amped-up drama of classic girl-group records to dreamy ballads that brazenly pull at the heartstrings\, only this time with some extra muscle\, courtesy of producers Beau Sorenson and Shane Hochstettler. Blexrud-Strigens’ vocals remain the focal point\, reaching new heights of sweeping majesty on the “you done me wrong” weepie “My Sin” and the epic “The White Cobra.” Where II improves on Testa Rosa is in the added lushness of the instrumentation\, which captivates even on lightly breezy pop tunes\, like “If Only I Had Run” and the charmingly wordless “Carpet Cube.” Testa Rosa isn’t Milwaukee’s flashiest or edgiest rock band\, but on II it might be the most gorgeous. (by Steven Hyden January 6\, 2011) \nThe Cut-Outs is the story of four friends. Four friends who grew up with a mutual love of music. Whether combing through their parents record collection\, being intoduced to the The Clash and Wire from an uncle\, or being submerged in the sounds of Minor Threat and The Descendents while skateboarding through South Side alleys\, a seed was sown. \nAs influential as these bands and scenes were on the four friends\, they truly bonded over the tunefulness and energy of lads from across the pond (Oasis\, The Jam\, The Beatles\, New Order\, Blur\, Charlatans\, Gene to name a few) as well as the burgeoning late 90’s\, early 2000’s American Indie/Post-Rock scenes of Chapel Hill and the Midwest.\nThey soon formed a band. Writing and recording in Rob’s basement\, they honed their songcraft and began to play shows. They self-released a 4 song EP called “Bring The Beat Back” that shared the same vitality and tunefulness of their early influences. \nTim Kowalski-Bass\nJoel Van Gorder-Guitar & Vocals\nEric Abshagen-Keyboards & Backing Vocals\nRob Weber-Drums & Backing Vocals \nDoors at 8:00pm\, Show at 9:00pm

DESCRIPTION:November 22nd\, 1963\, on the way to Dallas\, Pres. John F. Kennedy said to his wife\, “Jackie\, if somebody wants to shoot me from a window with a rifle\, nobody can stop it\, so why worry about it.” That morning he was assassinated. \nOn this year’s Anniversary of JFK’s Assassination\, Friday\, November 22nd at 7:30 pm at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn\,  1001 E. Locust St.\, a dramatic play reading of the assassinations of JFK\, Robert Kennedy\, Malcolm X and Dr. King will be presented. \nThe play\, Project Unspeakable\, was inspired by James Douglass’ groundbreaking and meticulously-researched book\, JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters.           \nIn the best tradition of live “political theatre\,” Project Unspeakable\, is a staged dramatic play reading whose previous performances have received standing ovations from hundreds while touching and moving people\, raising questions and provoking discussion\, controversy and reflection. \nSusie Krause wrote\, “PROJECT UNSPEAKABLE shatters conventional wisdom in its examination of the truth about the assassinations of JFK\, Dr King\, Malcolm\, and RFK\, told in direct quotations and documentation. It is riveting\, powerful\, and informationally unsettling. I was rapt the entire performance.” \nWritten by Court Dorsey\, this gripping play challenges the silence that for decades has surrounded the assassinations.  It delves into why these four men were targeted within a 5-year period\, who was responsible and why it matters.  The text of the play is based on historic facts and direct quotes and contains documented information not widely known. \n____________________________________________ \nProduced locally by George Martin and Julie Enslow. Cast is Dorothy James\, George Martin\, Julie Enslow\, Eamon O’Neill\, Lenore Lee\, Curt Harris\, Steve Shea\, Joe Radoszewski\, Helen Harris\, Olu Sijuwade and Spike Bandy and others. \nFull performance time one hour. Followed by feedback and discussion

DESCRIPTION:Bill Camplin is a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist who began playing professionally in the Milwaukee Area in the late 1960’s. Bill writes and arranges his own material and has produced a considerable body of work. Bill was an integral part of the Milwaukee acoustic folk scene for many years and appeared regularly at various clubs including the Blue River Café\, Numero Unos\, The Crystal Palace\, The Avante Garde and the 19th Street Coffee House. \nBand Members\nJASON KLAGSTAD – Guitars\, backing vocals – Jason is considered one of the top live and studio musicians in the Milwaukee area and has been playing professionally for over 45 years. \nHe has been a member of several area and nationally known bands\, including stints with Howie Epstein (Tom Petty)\, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)\, Arroyo\, Color Radio\, Warner Bros. recording artist\, Semi-Twang\, Bill Camplin (since 1974) and the local rock band favorite\, Plumb Loco. His distinctive guitar playing style has been featured on many recordings. With Peter Buffet for example\, he recorded film\, tv and recording projects\, appearing on 3 Buffett albums and the soundtrack for the Kevin Costner television special\, 500 Nations. During his performing/recording career\, Jason also ran several area music stores\, including his own – Big Music\, a specialty music instrument store\, until the mid1990’s. \nPAUL WEHRLEY – Bass guitar – Although Paul played trombone in marching band while in high school\, he did not envision trombone as his musical nexus. A couple of friends needed a bass player and Paul\, always the organizer\, agreed. From 1974 – 1982 Paul co-founded and played with both RIO and Arroyo\, two of the region’s seminal Country Rock bands. His early immersion in that genre provided a deep connection with Bill Camplin’s material. \nAfter his four year stint with Arroyo he became one of region’s top studio engineers\, typically working out of Waukesha’s Breezeway studios producing albums for many regional and national Artists. During this time he also played for many years with local cover rock band\, Plumb Loco. Today\, Paul is a property manager and lives in Elm Grove with his wife Jane.
