SUMMARY:March 5\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Joined together by a love of early swingin’ rock and roll\, the Hungry Williams play music that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Legendary Midwest drummer and leader John Carr has assembled a group of like-minded R&B gurus who deliver the goods. Lead singer Kelli Gonzalez belts it out of the park with sass and charm\, while the rest of the core group including Mike Sieger on bass\, Joe Vent on guitar\, and Jack Stewart on keys make it jump all night long. With a sax section adding grease to the skillet\, the Hungry Williams rock\, swing\, jump\, and stroll at every show\, making sure everyone takes some time to leave their worries behind and have some fun. \n \n\nOld Sam & the Teardrops are Wisconsin’s Premiere Swing Jazz\nBand. Featuring John Sparrow of the Violent Femmes. \n \n\nThe Incorruptibles are three piece band based out of Milwaukee\, WI and Leave It At The Door is their debut album\, containing 14 original tracks of toe-tappingly irresistible rockabilly and blues. Opening with the eponymous title track\, the music explodes out of the speakers with a joyous confidence and a smile as big as Montana\, while the rhythm section of Bill Siebert on drums and Amy Ashby on upright bass lay down a seriously swinging foundation for Jimmy McCarthy’s voice and guitar. Ostensibly about a club where you can “take that jive and leave it at the door” and escape from your day-to-day problems\, McCarthy’s lyrics demonstrate a sharp intelligence. (Album Review: Leave It At The Door – Rhys Williams / Reviewer for Blues Blast Magazine) \n \n\n  \nDoors at 1:30pm\, show at 2:30pm\, $12

SUMMARY:March 3\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Rucksack Revolution   A rare show featuring the duo of Sarah Vos (Dead Horses) and Adam Greuel (Horseshoes & Hand Grenades) performing together in Milwaukee\, WI. \nMarch 3.  Doors at 7pm\, show at 8pm.  Tickets\, $20 advance\, $30 at the door.\, Advance tickets online here:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rucksack-revolution-live-at-linnemans-riverwest-in-milwaukee-wi-tickets-463871842167 \nBio:\nBio’s sure are a funny thing. Sometimes the band writes them for themselves\, other times they pay a bunch of money to have a professional do it. Well\, instead of that whole hoopla\, I’m just going to explain why I think Sarah and I find serious amounts of joy in making music together. We met back in the early days of Dead Horses and Horseshoes & Hand Grenades. Those are our two “main bands”\, ya know\, our day jobs. Anyhow\, we immediately hit it off and became friends. I think there was a sense of musical and life curiosity\, as well as mutual respect\, that drew us together. That feeling led to us hanging out at my college rental house in Stevens Point. We started playing music together and there was this wonderful and immediate sense of chemistry. The floors were wooden\, and I think that made the sound sparkle a little bit too. That really was the first night of “Rucksack Revolution”. Since then\, our friendship and our music have grown and created some great nights of music and magic. Sometimes we play songs we’ve recently written\, other times we play songs from Dead Horses or Horseshoes\, and sometimes we even play songs we’ve never played for anyone before. Sometimes we feel real high\, sometimes we feel real low. I think we take comfort and pride in the acceptance that we have for one another and I think that creates a relaxed feeling that can lead to some beautiful sounds. In the spring and summer of 2021\, we decided to go to a recording studio and lay down some music that was uniquely us. It feels like that experience drew us musically closer yet and I feel great\, and grateful\, about what we created. People are always asking about the future and the past\, but sometimes it’s best to just see what is\, right now. When we get together\, we try to embrace that moment and hope that the folks that come around can join us in that. I think Sarah’s a wonderful songwriter\, a great human\, and a dear friend. I really\, really enjoy making music with her. How’s that for a damn bio? -Adam Greuel \nAdditional Information: “I see a vision of a great rucksack revolution thousands or even millions of young americans wandering around with rucksacks\, going up into the mountains to pray\, making children laugh and old men glad\, making young girls happy and old girls happier\, all of ’em zen lunatics who go about writing poems that happen to appear in their heads for no reason and also by being kind and also by strange unexpected acts keep giving visions of eternal freedom to everybody and to all living creatures.” -Jack Kerouac in Dharma Bums \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRucksack Revolution  March 3. DESCRIPTION:All Messed Up XI\nFri. Feb 17th & Sat. Feb 18th at Linneman’s\nDoors Open at 7pm\, bands at 8pm.\n$5 each night at the door\n21+\n\n\nALL MESSED UP XI SCHEDULE\nFriday 2/17\n8:00 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Doves\n8:40 Hippopotamus Oath\n9:20 grammer Daddy\n10:00 Cobramos Aqui\n10:40 Stallis in Chains\n11:20 [Redacted] and The Questions\nThree\n12:00 Joja Mary and the Rymajajo\n\nSaturday 2/18\n8:00 Mill & the Mukwonagoats\n8:40 Moon Horses\n9:20 Black Market Build-A-Bear\n10:00 Amazonian Women in the Mood\n(Death by SNU SNU!)\n10:40 Thee Shit Fucks\n11:20 Trash Pandas in Pajamas with\nBananas\n12:00 Merkin Magic\n\n\n\n\nIt’s the 11th year of All Messed Up\, Milwaukee’s annual randomized musical experiment!\nThe drawing was fantastic! Thank you to everyone who helped pull this event out of its three year hiatus…\nThere were a few things last night I forgot to announce like band name submission deadline and this years special challenge\, so please take a minute and read the details below.\nThere were also a handful of people not at the drawing. If you didn’t get your missing band mate contact info at the drawing\, or if you cannot reach someone (it’s possible I screwed something up too!) please get in touch with me.\nI’ll recap the rules once more here in case anyone needs a refresher…\n♫ There are a total of 14 bands\, consisting of 4 people each. The bands will perform over a two-night showcase at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn on Friday February 17th and Saturday February 18th (7 bands each night). Each band needs to come up with a 15-20 minute set of original music and ONE cover song. The event takes place in a bar\, and is therefore 21+ only.\n♫ Every year has an added stipulation that is like an extra challenge that keeps things fresh. Since it’s been a few year since we’ve done this I wanted to keep it simple and also possibly give people a seed idea for song writing and/or cover choosing. This year’s challenge is that ONE of your songs- it can be an original or your cover- has to PROMINANTLY feature the number of your band. I’m not going to get into semantics about how prominently other than basically – it should be noticeable. If you didn’t see your band number at the drawing\, they will be posted in the rough roster below. If you don’t understand the challenge\, please contact me for more explanation.\n♫ If someone drops out of your band for whatever reason\, do not panic. Think of it as an opportunity to team up with someone who isn’t a quitter\, or if you choose to continue on with just existing members\, a chance to be a trio?\nShould you want a replacement- Contact me\, and I will randomly draw from the reserve list and get you and your new bandmate in touch. Unfortunately\, as of right now there is no reserve list. I’m hoping that changes but for the moment if someone drops- you’re a trio. Think of this as motivation to recruit some reserves and do everything you can to make shit with your existing band mates work.\nYou may not recruit others from outside specifically for your band. You may not swap members with other bands. You may not quit a band and sign up again as a reserve in the same year- you CAN quit come back next year in a band\, and everyone is welcome at the shows always. Also\, if you need to drop out of your band\, please let me and your band know as soon as possible.\n♫ Each band must name itself by Sunday January 1st at 11:59pm. This must come in the form of a Facebook message\, email\, text message\, or written on paper. If you do not submit a name\, I will name your band for you. No amount of begging or excuses will change my mind. By this date\, I also need to know if your band can only play one of the two nights. I’ve got to make the schedule and get posters made\, etc…but I will try my best to accommodate bands with a schedule conflict. I’m juggling 14 bands so please keep show date requests to real conflicts– not just because you don’t want to play a certain night. Once the schedule is made\, I will not change it. There’s plenty of time to plan ahead.\n♫ To keep things running smoothly\, there will be shared equipment on stage each night. After the schedule comes out\, I will begin asking for volunteers who want to offer up their gear. The following will need to be provided:\n– 1 Drum set\n– 2 Guitar amps\n– 1 Bass amp\n– Linneman’s PA system and mics.\nI know not every band fits this exact setup\, but it works for most people. Jim can also run instruments directly through the PA. You should bring your own instrument cables\, pedals\, picks\, drumsticks\, etc.. Jim has Vocal mics for us to use however if you’d like to bring your own feel free. In the past\, depending on who is loaning the drum kit\, drummers have been asked to bring their own cymbals. More on that once the schedule comes out.\n♫ If anyone would like to still sign up on for the reserve list\, WE NEED YOU!!!!! just message me via my Facebook\, the AMU FB page\, or email me (Jess) Olivekroha@gmail.com with your name\, email\, phone number\, vax proof and the name(s) of anyone who you absolutely cannot be in a band with (these requests will be honored and kept confidential).\nALL MESSED UP YEAR 11 ROSTER:\nBand 1:\nAlex Sitze\nJacob Mcelrone\nJacob Otten\nRyan Walkoe\nBand 2:\nMax Hey\nShane Bric\nPaul Taldone\nTyler DuChateau\nBand 3:\nNicholas Gardner\nIan York\nChris Haise\nCasey Nieznanski\nBand 4:\nAlex Klosterman\nZacke Lyons\nDaniel Klebar\nJoe Kirschling\nBand 5:\nBrandon Chapin\nJess Kroha-Anderson\nAvery Luedke\nStephen Carriger\nBand 6:\nRob Anderson\nMick Sweigert\nHarley Jensen\nMaggie Dahlberg\nBand 7:\nRachel Orheim\nJake Wild\nSam Alberts\nJames Mechoir\nBand 8:\nTodd Ciske\nErica Veto\nJustin Engelbart\nDave Lucas\nBand 9:\nJohn Jucemich\nAlex Ogden\nTW Hansen\nGary Struck\nBand 10:\nJoel Kasda\nJasmine Mace\nRyan Claxton\nMax Williamson\nBand 11:\nOwen Goldin\nRobert Sinkey\nBrendan McDonough\nStephen V. DESCRIPTION:Lake Drive EP Release show for “Wordplay.” \nA rising band out of Milwaukee\, WI – Lake Drive continues to reach a growing fanbase with their emotionally compelling catalog & vibrant stage presence. They’re hard workers – focused on the release of their debut EP “Wordplay”. \nTheir music takes inspiration from some of their favorite artists\, creating an incredibly diverse yet pinpointed sound that has been described as: pop rock\, alternative emo\, indie rock. \nBAND MEMBERS: RAYVEN BURDETTE\, BRANDON DETAEGE\, TREVOR GALLAGHER\, & ADAM SECORD \n \n\nOUTDrejas:  Once upon a time\, there was a dude named Dave. Dave played guitar\, butdidn’t have any friends to form a band with. Dave decided to look on Craigslistand found a metal group that needed a bassist. He didn’t know how to playbass\, so he went to Guitar Center\, bought a bass\, and became their newestmember. He soon found himself playing venues and getting to know the folksthat booked the shows. One day\, Dave asked one of these folks if they would book his “other” bandthatplayed rock n’ roll instead of metal. The big secret here though is that Davedidn’t have another band. This is a fancy way of saying that Dave was lying. This particular booking agent booked Dave’s fake “band” (not knowing that itdidn’t actually exist). As crazy as it may sound\, Dave had a month to form arealband. This new band was called OUTDrejas because Dave’s last name is Drejasand he wanted his band to be outrageous. They took that month\, wrote somesongs\, and played that show. And guess what? They rocked! They rocked sohard in fact that they soon found themselves opening for Puddle of Mudd andlater playing at the House of Blues in Chicago!Fast forward to present day and OUTDrejas is now eight years into its rock n’rolljourney. They now have six wonderful members (and now Dave has lots offriends!). They officially have over 1 million YouTube streams and recentlyopened for the Counting Crows in front of 12\,000 people. \n \n\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $8

DESCRIPTION:Wurk is a 6-piece funk-fusion group that formed in Madison\, WI in 2016.  Inspired by Snarky Puppy\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Herbie Hancock\, and many others; their innovative original songs and ambitious interpretations of popular covers offer an impressive multi-genre exploration of funk\, jazz fusion\, prog rock\, reggae\, and more. Described by Isthmus Magazine as “summer-jam-perfect”\, their sound seeks to employ a musically educated tone; Wurk fills the gap between complexity and groove\, impressing fans and keeping them dancing all night. The Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) Awards recognized their rapid ascent to stardom in 2018 with the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award; then only six months later Wurk won five more awards including the coveted 2019 MAMA Artist of the Year Award. Max Morkri drives the band with his blend of solid grooving and intricate chops\, which is coupled by Casey Seymour’s powerful bass lines to glue  the band together. Frank Laufenberg (guitar/vocals) and Miles Morkri (electric piano/vocals) provide rhythmic and tonal complexity while filling the role as the principal songwriters and vocalists.  Daniel Haschke (saxophones/flute) and Carl Hipenbecker (trumpet/vocals) top it off with impressive horn lines and effects. \n \n\nDropbear Collective is a 4-piece modern rock outfit from Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. DESCRIPTION:Powered by Louie Lucchesi’s unmistakable voice\, Louie & The Flashbombs perform original songs co-authored by Lucchesi and veteran Milwaukee songwriter Mike Benign. The Flashbombs’ songs blend Lucchesi’s love of 1970s New York City rock with Benign’s knack for hooky alternative pop. \nRounding out The Flahsbombs are a Who’s Who of Milwaukee musicians: drummer Bo Conlon (BoDeans\, Pat McCurdy\, Crime Family)\, bass Paul Biemann (Blue in The Face\, The Mike Benign Compulsion\, Arms & Legs & Feet)\, guitarist Al Hildenbrand (Pet Engine\, Britpop) and keyboardist Matt Meixner (Mea Jima\, Milwaukee Underground Duo). \nLucchesi began his career performing at notorious New York City nightclubs like Tramps\, CBGB’s and The Bitter End. He returned to Milwaukee and fronted bands that included Crime Family\, Brother Louie and Klaus Nomi’s Homies. \n\nKitty Soft Paw – a 5-piece rock band that adds a creative punk twist to soulful originals and covers. \n \n\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10
