DESCRIPTION:Kick off April 2023 right with a performance by The John Sieger Combo live from Linneman’s! He’ll play songs from throughout his career\, including Semi-Twang\, the R&B Cadets\, El Supremo and his solo records. The tempo is upbeat\, and the core of the band is familiar — with John’s brother Mike on bass and brotherly harmonies\, Bob Jennings on keys and sax\, and Bob Schneider on drums. \n“If there’s an unsung hero in American Music right now it just might be John Sieger… His voice is a study in emotional grace\, one that touches all the places inside us that need touching… Sieger shows us that walking down a familiar sidewalk and grabbing melodies from thin air is a holy pursuit\, and then carving words into the music takes things right into an eternal quest for permanence.”\n— Bill Bentley // Americana Highways \nSubscribe to the John Sieger Benevolent Society and get a song every Monday! Check it out at www.patreon.com/JohnSieger \n \nDoors at 6:15pm\, show at 7:15pm.  $15

DESCRIPTION:5PM to Nowhere is an alt-pop project formed in 2020 by Milwaukee singer-songwriter Jacob Webb. Evoking the emotional balladry of Coldplay and the thematic songwriting of Sufjan Stevens\, he explores his own experiences and hopes in his music. Webb’s musical journey began following the passing of his father when he was eight years old; searching for an outlet for the grief and loneliness eating at his heart\, he turned to writing and performing music. \nWhile studying music composition at Northwestern University in Chicago\, Webb entered the OnRecord Songwriting Competition\, a music competition involving students from Chicago-area universities\, winning the competition with his song “Rumination”. During his time at Northwestern\, Webb was the Music Director of THUNK A Cappella\, and notably arranged the group’s viral cover of Bishop Briggs’ “River”. 5PM to Nowhere released it’s debut album Stoicism to critical acclaim in the summer of 2022! \n \n\nA popular & rising band out of Milwaukee\, WI – Lake Drive continues to reach a growing fanbase with their emotionally compelling catalog & vibrant stage presence. They’re hard workers – focused on the release of their debut EP “Wordplay”. \nTheir music takes inspiration from some of their favorite artists\, creating an incredibly diverse yet pinpointed sound that has been described as: pop rock\, alternative emo\, indie rock. \nBAND MEMBERS: RAYVEN BURDETTE\, BRANDON DETAEGE\, TREVOR GALLAGHER\, & ADAM SECORD \n \n\nSabrina Prochaska is a Milwaukee based Singer-Songwriter! \n \n\ndoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Zach Pietrini’s Midwestern\, indie americana songwriting aesthetic is the sonic embodiment of a well-worn denim jacket. At the forefront of the Americana resurgence\, Pietrini—lead vocalist and guitarist for his namesake band—takes an everyman’s approach to the genre with a knack for honest storytelling and a wistfulness that comes across in both the music and lyrics. The band takes its cues from Tom Petty\, Bruce Springsteen\, and David Ramirez\, reinterpreting and rejuvenating American roots styles through a contemporary lens. Pietrini’s songs “situate him at the confluence of all that an urban Millennial audience finds relatable” (Milwaukee Magazine)\, performing old-soul themes of ennui\, regret\, disappointment\, and nostalgia with a modern twist. \n \n\nSinger-songwriter Ben Harold\, who has been writing since the minute he picked up guitar at 15-years-old\, knew he couldn’t do it alone—convening with fellow Wisconsin musicians looking to start a band and Harold quitting his day job to pursue it full-time. \nHarold’s upbringing in northern Wisconsin was on a small\, blue-collar island called Washington Island. Sandwiched between Wisconsin and Michigan\, the island is solely traveled to via ferry and mainly by tourists\, leading Harold and his mother\, brother\, and two sisters to be isolated\, and spending most of his teenage years playing chords–his dream of making music only being just that. \nAfter relocating to the west side of Wisconsin\, near Minnesota\, and then back to Milwaukee\, Harold worked several jobs in the industry and put together a few bands—but it was nothing like the feeling of making music himself\, reminiscing on his upbringing where he was raised by a single mother who encouraged him to sing and play\, influenced by bands like Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Dave Matthews Band. \n \n\nJesse Tyler Frewerd is a singer/songwriter and Army Veteran based out of Milwaukee\, WI. After serving in Iraq in 2004\, Jesse turned to music to help process the difficult experiences he had endured while serving his country. However\, it wasn’t until 2017 that he had the opportunity to work with professional songwriters in Nashville through the nonprofit CreatiVets that he truly discovered his passion for songwriting. \nJesse’s experience in Nashville inspired him to write “Soldier Coming Home\,” a song that transformed his story into a powerful message of hope and resilience. Since then\, he has continued to write music that showcases his unique blend of rock and country and delivers uplifting messages of strength and perseverance. \nIn addition to music\, Jesse enjoys spending time with his wife Katie\, who is also a musician\, and their son Dean\, who was born in October 2021. When he’s not making music\, Jesse can be found playing chess\, watching MMA fights\, or cheering on the Bucks and Packers. \nWith his exceptional musicality and thoughtful lyrical content\, Jesse seamlessly blends his rock roots with country influences to create a sound that is both powerful and emotive. His commitment to telling his story and inspiring others through his music makes him a truly remarkable artist. Whether on stage or in the studio\, Jesse continues to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impact on those who hear his music. \n \n6pm doors\, 7:00pm show\, $10

Milwaukee based ex-therapist John Justus brings a warm and engaging show to audiences of all sizes. Playing well loved covers and hopeful originals\, John is a versatile instrumentalist\, equally capable on both piano and guitar. Sounds like the intersection between ’60s folk rock and 2000’s pop / alternative. \nAs a Dual Citizen (born in Australia\, raised in Nebraska) John brings a global perspective to his music and invites people of all walks to feel welcome at his performances.” \nTonight\, John plays with his band\, and also unveils song with just his guitar/keyboard!! \n \n\nFor Jorge – Jorge Vallentine‘s distinctive indie folk sound channels the music of early Bright Eyes\, Brand New\, and Arctic Monkeys all at once. DESCRIPTION:Iowa City native Sam Knutson is an incredible talent\, a traditional folky whose skillful guitar work and songwriting pop right off the page. His new album “Donkey Island” is receiving rave reviews\, and this performance will serve as an album release! \nBuy “Donkey Island” on Bandcamp:\nhttps://samknutson.bandcamp.com/album/donkey-islandSpotify Link:\nhttps://open.spotify.com/album/5o91iphr4gmodSzCXC0zPF?si=Aag5TYlBRpa7gEJV1bRdvQ\n  \nBio:  After ten years running and writing for a pub rock band called Shame Train I literally stumbled into a job doing product placement for feature films. That paid me enough to take a year off which I used to become a better stage and sound tech\, better at seeing a bigger picture\, and to write songs to perform without a band. That led me to take closer look at the small live-performance theaters all over the mid-west called Opera Houses built alongside passenger rail lines around the turn of the last century. Iowa had tons of passenger rail\, so there are tons of small town Opera Houses. For a little over a year I have been developing programming\, booking\, doing community outreach and PR\, public speaking\, fundraising and performing as part of the folk music series The Iowa Opera House Project. \nWe have received equipment sponsorships\, donations national press\, in-state magazine and television coverage and spent almost no money on advertising. It’s a good story. It’s good for the state and being able to present world class talent that is home grown and picked to apply to a particular\, mostly acoustic aesthetic befitting these pre-electricity performance halls has lent credence to the cause\, and the Opera Houses. \nOnce a forgotten part of the history of the mid-west\, The Iowa Opera House Project seeks to bring the Opera Houses back to their rightful place as the centers of community entertainment tailored to their towns or as destination venues by presenting entertainment\, and gaining media coverage locally/show and on a larger scale covering the Project. \n\n\n\nLuke Cerny is a self-taught guitarist and composer from the Northwoods of Wisconsin. In 2014 Luke left his corporate job and started freelancing in pursuit of writing\, collaborating\, and performing. His first album chronicles the past 10 years of his life. It features an eclectic collection of songs he’s written over the decade that reflect his musical evolution and initiation into the roots of American music. \n \n\n\n\nEthan Keller is a singer-songwriter from Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. He was voted Solo Artist of the Year in the 2011 Radio Milwaukee Music Awards\, and Pop Artist of the Year in the 2011 Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Awards. \n \n\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10. \n

DESCRIPTION:6pm Doors\, 7pm Show\, $15 Advance here:  (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/brew-city-barn-burner-tickets-536186025837)\,  $20 Day of Show \n\nThe very best of Wisconsin traditional bluegrass comes to Linneman’s Riverwest Inn in beautiful Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. You won’t want to miss this spectacular\, star-studded lineup right here in Brew City. From longtime legends to up-and-coming talent\, this three band lineup featuring Sugar Bush\, Art Stevenson & High Water\, and The Mark Hembree Band is a perfect representation of the dynamic and thriving bluegrass community that is offered by the state of Wisconsin.\n\n\n\n—Sugar Bush—\nFeaturing members of Chicken Wire Empire\, The MilBillies\, and beyond\, SUGAR BUSH mishes and (definitely) mashes its way through its own synthesis of traditional and modern bluegrass. Formed out of picking circles in the dive bars of Milwaukee\, Sugar Bush is truly a super band of Milwaukee’s finest bluegrass musicians.\n\n\n\n\n—Art Stevenson & High Water—\nSince 1993\, Art Stevenson & High Water have been keeping traditional bluegrass alive in Wisconsin and surrounding states. They have released seven CD recordings of well-chosen songs and original compositions\, all of which received praise from reviews in the media\, and frequent airplay by radio music show hosts around the country. The band’s mission is to preserve the hard-driving traditional bluegrass sound while including material from other musical styles. In 2021 High Water emerged from the pandemic with a new mission\, and for the first time since 2001\, a new member!\nArt Stevenson is THE living legend of the Wisconsin bluegrass community and has played a primary role in ushering in the ever growing and thriving bluegrass scene we all share in our region.\n\n\n\n\n—The Mark Hembree Band—\nIt’s straight-ahead\, traditional bluegrass: hot picking\, solid rhythm\, tight harmonies\, good humor\, and a wealth of great stories make for an enjoyable show anytime you see the Mark Hembree Band.\nMark Hembree started his music career in Wisconsin in the 1970s\, and before long he was hosting a live radio show from the Glenmore Opera House near Green Bay. After a couple of years in Denver with the Monroe Doctrine\, he returned to Wisconsin briefly before an audition at a local festival netted a job with Country Music Hall of Fame legend Bill Monroe\, the Father of Bluegrass Music. He became a Blue Grass Boy in 1979 and worked with Monroe for five years\, then was one of the founding members of the Nashville Bluegrass Band. While in Nashville he recorded with several well-known artists\, including the all-star band Dreadful Snakes (with Jerry Douglas\, Béla Fleck\, Roland White\, Blaine Sprouse\, and Pat Enright) and Peter Rowan (on the Grammy-nominated album “New Moon Rising”). He returned to Wisconsin in 1989\, played with local bluegrass groups the Rounders and Nob Hill Boys\, and Western swing bands the Western Box Turtles (including Asleep at the Wheel steel guitarist Eddie Rivers) and his own group\, the Best Westerns.\nMark Hembree also recently published his memoirs from his time touring with the Father of Bluegrass Music himself\, Bill Monroe. Find his book “On the Bus with Bill Monroe” wherever you buy your books\, and read more here:\nA backstage audition led Mark Hembree into a five-year stint (1979–1984) as the bassist for Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys. Hembree’s journey included playing at the White House and on the acclaimed album Master of Bluegrass. But it also put him on a collision course with the rigors of touring\, the mysteries of Southern culture\, and the complex personality of bandleader-legend Bill Monroe. Whether it’s figuring out the best time for breakfast (early) or for beating the boss at poker (never)\, Hembree gives readers an up-close look at the occasionally exalting\, often unglamorous life of a touring musician in the sometimes baffling\, always colorful company of a bluegrass icon.\nThe amusing story of a Yankee fish out of water\, On the Bus with Bill Monroe mixes memoir with storytelling to recount the adventures of a Northerner learning new ways and the Old South.\n \n\n6pm Doors\, 7pm Show\, $15 Advance here:  (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/brew-city-barn-burner-tickets-536186025837)\,  $20 Day of Show

DESCRIPTION:Dogs at Large had to postpone\, so\, instead Night Again is filling in! \nNight Again is an indie-punk band based in Chicago/Milwaukee. Drawing influence from bands like Cursive\, Jawbox\, Braid\, and Bear vs Shark\, Night Again combines angular song structures with knotty\, interplaying guitar riffs\, and poetic lyrics. In 2022\, they released their first record entitled OUT OF BODY. A dark and expansive record that combines elements of post-hardcore\, shoegaze\, and folk. \n \n\nSince 2015\, Chicago’s Dogs at Large has been consistently creating “languid\, Americana-inflected indie rock\,” as described by the Chicago Reader. The group’s discography features songs inspired by Gram Parsons\, Neil Young\, Judee Sill\, and Big Star\, but Dogs at Large may also get compared to modern country-influenced indie artists like Cut Worms\, Dougie Poole\, or Daniel Romano. \n \n\nRooted in folk but hardly bound to it\, Caley Conway‘s inventive style ranges from jazz to post-rock\, hints at the familiar\, and embraces a dissonant beauty. The Milwaukeean’s breezy voice and disarming wit belie a deep sonic complexity\, bringing a new set of rules to the singer-songwriter paradigm. \n \n\nRainbow Cobra  is a new rock band to look out for\, incorporating country and folk sensibilities into their warm sound. Their debut EP is out and it’s three songs that yearn for change and for something good to happen after putting yourself through hell. With rugged honesty about seeking a better place\, Rainbow Cobra let out a cry with “Falcon Yard EP”; we look forward to seeing what they’ll do from here.  (Breaking & Entering) \n \n  \n\nDoors 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Joined together by a love of early swingin’ rock and roll\, the Hungry Williams play music that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Legendary Midwest drummer and leader John Carr has assembled a group of like-minded R&B gurus who deliver the goods. Lead singer Kelli Gonzalez belts it out of the park with sass and charm\, while the rest of the core group including Mike Sieger on bass\, Joe Vent on guitar\, and Jack Stewart on keys make it jump all night long. With a sax section adding grease to the skillet\, the Hungry Williams rock\, swing\, jump\, and stroll at every show\, making sure everyone takes some time to leave their worries behind and have some fun. \n \n\nOld Sam & the Teardrops are Wisconsin’s Premiere Swing Jazz\nBand. Featuring John Sparrow of the Violent Femmes. \n \n\nThe Incorruptibles are three piece band based out of Milwaukee\, WI and Leave It At The Door is their debut album\, containing 14 original tracks of toe-tappingly irresistible rockabilly and blues. Opening with the eponymous title track\, the music explodes out of the speakers with a joyous confidence and a smile as big as Montana\, while the rhythm section of Bill Siebert on drums and Amy Ashby on upright bass lay down a seriously swinging foundation for Jimmy McCarthy’s voice and guitar. Ostensibly about a club where you can “take that jive and leave it at the door” and escape from your day-to-day problems\, McCarthy’s lyrics demonstrate a sharp intelligence. DESCRIPTION:Rucksack Revolution   A rare show featuring the duo of Sarah Vos (Dead Horses) and Adam Greuel (Horseshoes & Hand Grenades) performing together in Milwaukee\, WI. \nMarch 3.  Doors at 7pm\, show at 8pm.  Tickets\, $20 advance\, $30 at the door.\, Advance tickets online here:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rucksack-revolution-live-at-linnemans-riverwest-in-milwaukee-wi-tickets-463871842167 \nBio:\nBio’s sure are a funny thing. Sometimes the band writes them for themselves\, other times they pay a bunch of money to have a professional do it. Well\, instead of that whole hoopla\, I’m just going to explain why I think Sarah and I find serious amounts of joy in making music together. We met back in the early days of Dead Horses and Horseshoes & Hand Grenades. Those are our two “main bands”\, ya know\, our day jobs. Anyhow\, we immediately hit it off and became friends. I think there was a sense of musical and life curiosity\, as well as mutual respect\, that drew us together. That feeling led to us hanging out at my college rental house in Stevens Point. We started playing music together and there was this wonderful and immediate sense of chemistry. The floors were wooden\, and I think that made the sound sparkle a little bit too. That really was the first night of “Rucksack Revolution”. Since then\, our friendship and our music have grown and created some great nights of music and magic. Sometimes we play songs we’ve recently written\, other times we play songs from Dead Horses or Horseshoes\, and sometimes we even play songs we’ve never played for anyone before. Sometimes we feel real high\, sometimes we feel real low. I think we take comfort and pride in the acceptance that we have for one another and I think that creates a relaxed feeling that can lead to some beautiful sounds. In the spring and summer of 2021\, we decided to go to a recording studio and lay down some music that was uniquely us. It feels like that experience drew us musically closer yet and I feel great\, and grateful\, about what we created. People are always asking about the future and the past\, but sometimes it’s best to just see what is\, right now. When we get together\, we try to embrace that moment and hope that the folks that come around can join us in that. I think Sarah’s a wonderful songwriter\, a great human\, and a dear friend. I really\, really enjoy making music with her. How’s that for a damn bio? -Adam Greuel \nAdditional Information: “I see a vision of a great rucksack revolution thousands or even millions of young americans wandering around with rucksacks\, going up into the mountains to pray\, making children laugh and old men glad\, making young girls happy and old girls happier\, all of ’em zen lunatics who go about writing poems that happen to appear in their heads for no reason and also by being kind and also by strange unexpected acts keep giving visions of eternal freedom to everybody and to all living creatures.” -Jack Kerouac in Dharma Bums \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRucksack Revolution  March 3.
