SUMMARY:Veterans for Peace Benefit featuring Tom Neilson * April 12\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:An evening of music\, satire\, and social commentary with Tom Neilson\, a Massachusetts singer-songwriter and activist\, to benefit Veterans for Peace Milwaukee. Neilson provides a voice for those who believe in the power of folk music to effect change. \nIt’s a return engagement for Neilson\, who delighted audiences at past VFP benefits\, this will be the 3rd time he has played Milwaukee. \nHis award-winning songs of humor and compassion have been performed in 21 countries on 5 continents. His lyrics are celebrated for their sophistication\, political astuteness\, & wit. \nCombining art with activism\, he has appeared with Medea Benjamin\, Cynthia McKinney\, Amy Goodman\, Cindy Sheehan\, Cesar Chavez\, Noam Chomsky\, Ralph Nader\, Ray McGovern\, Howard Zinn\, David Cobb\, many others\, & played at the Martin Luther King Center in Havana\, Cuba. \nHis travels are reflected in his songs\, intertwined with farm roots and a fervent commitment to social justice\, as he writes about historical and current events. He has been at the forefront in helping communities organize against water privatization\, mountain top removal\, nuclear energy\, incinerators\, GMOs\, fracking\, & toxic waste. \nKnown locally as the Bard Insurgent\, Tom is a veteran of stage and street theater with his writing\, acting\, and directing. His songs draw the listener into his musical response to globalization. \nHe plays at union halls\, colleges\, conferences\, cafes\, house concerts\, and has performed for countless benefits and causes. His music has been used in documentaries\, TV shows\, stage and street theater as he tells the stories of people’s struggles against greed & violence\, interjecting a good deal of levity along the way. If you ask him\, he’ll tell you he’s just a farm boy with a guitar who loves a good ball game and human rights. \nA $20-30 donation is suggested…. \n \nDoors at 6pm\, Music at 7pm\, $20-$30 suggested donation

SUMMARY:Frank Hurricane's Mysticle & Musical Journey w/ Mark Adams Son of Bill\, & Gore Area II * April 25\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Frank Hurricane – SPIRITUAL MOUNTAIN SHRYMP BLUES AND FOLK \n“Through many years of relentless road-dogging\, Hurricane has ascended to legendary status on the DIY touring circuit while receiving almost no attention from music media. I had the pleasure of seeing him twice in 2024… It’s possible that these were the two best live sets I witnessed all year.” – Andy Cush \n“The positivity that spins throughout Life is Spiritual oozes an off-kilter charm . . . Honestly\, some of the most open-hearted songwriting I’ve heard in a long time.” -NPR Music \n“You can’t throw a roach clip out the driver’s side window these days without hitting a finger-picking guitarist\, but you can’t throw a star across the galaxy and hit anything like Frank Hurricane\, and with those odds\, how can you refuse?” – Matt Krefting \n“So where\, exactly\, are we going with this? It’s a question you can’t shake from your mind when you first listen to Frank Hurricane’s hazy Appalachian folk album Life is Spiritual. As you attempt to decipher his off-kilter musings\, it eventually becomes clear – you just have to let go. This isn’t a maddening situation\, but rather freeing\, actually\, as you ride shotgun with Hurricane through his whimsical psychedelic trip. And at times\, that can get pretty strange man.” -Washington Post \n \n\nMark Adams Son of Bill consists of vocalist/guitarist Mark Adams\, bassist Simon Beno\, and drummer Spencer Powers. They play grungy rock inspired by alternative music of the 90’s and have been a band for about nearly a decade. \nAdams explained\, “I started with doing solo stuff under the name. Mark Adams felt like a boring name so I tacked on the “Son of Bill” to sound like a death notice-rock ‘n roll cliche. Then about ten years ago\, Spencer Powers started drumming with me and then we became a three-piece when Simon Beno came along. For me\, I’m definitely stuck in 91′ or 92’ as far as influences go; I hate technology and hate the Internet – I still have a flip phone but would prefer not to have one at all.” \n \n\nGore Area II \nDoors 7:00pm\, Music 8:00pm\, $10

SUMMARY:WURK w/ Chili the Band * May 3\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Wurk is a 6-piece funk-fusion group that formed in Madison\, WI in 2016.  Inspired by Snarky Puppy\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Herbie Hancock\, and many others; their innovative original songs and ambitious interpretations of popular covers offer an impressive multi-genre exploration of funk\, jazz fusion\, prog rock\, reggae\, and more. Described by Isthmus Magazine as “summer-jam-perfect”\, their sound seeks to employ a musically educated tone; Wurk fills the gap between complexity and groove\, impressing fans and keeping them dancing all night. Frank Laufenberg (guitar/vocals) and Miles Morkri (electric piano/vocals) provide rhythmic and tonal complexity while filling the role as the principal songwriters and vocalists.  Daniel Haschke (saxophones/flute) and Carl Hipenbecker (trumpet/vocals) top it off with impressive horn lines and effects. \n \n\nChili the Band is a group that like to incorporate a singer-songwriter style into the fusion blues & soul that they jam. With a good mix of instrumental sound\, Chili provides a vibe that all can enjoy. \n \n\n  \nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $10

SUMMARY:Caley Conway w/ Lee Ketch\, & MATTHÚ * May 9\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:There are moments in Caley Conway’s Latest album\, Partner…when the ever-busy Milwaukee singer-songwriter finds herself caught in the humdrum duties of daily life. There are things to do—or not—people to see—or not—and the ones and zeros of technology to attend to. And then\, suddenly\, she’s off and dreaming\, belly laughing with a distant friend or considering taking up “the work of birds.” When she comes back down to Earth\, more often than not\, she finds bliss in a comforting middle ground. “There aren’t enough hours in the day\, I’ve counted\,” Conway sings early in the record\, before slyly adding\, “For loving you.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDreams\, and the sometimes lovely\, sometimes painful realities that anchor them\, are subjects Conway knows a thing or two about. The past decade has found her cutting a constant but elusive figure in the Milwaukee music scene and beyond\, sharing local stages with Field Report and Julia Blair\, sharing national stages with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker\, and releasing a steady stream of stellar solo work. \n \n\nLee Ketch is a singer songwriter from Bartlett\, IL. While serving as a member of countless Chicago bands including Mooner\, he has stepped forward with a recent solo release\, SPIRITUAL MILK FOR AMERICAN BABES. On this record\, wild improvisation meets “heartwarming\, lived-in” songwriting (Chicago Reader) as Ketch welcomes a host of collaborators to flesh out skeletons of songs into adventurous experiments punctured by moments of folk rock. The recently released new singles “La Sagrada Familia” and “I Can’t Love You”. The full band comprised of Hannah Bureau on violin\, Nick Harris on bass and synthesizer\, Ethan Parcell on drums and clarinet and Alec Watson on keyboards will join him. \nhttps://leeketch.bandcamp.com \nhttps://www.instagram.com/moonerband/ \n \n\nKevin Matthew Bush\, known by the stage name MATTHÚ\, is an American musician\, producer\, and singer-songwriter from Milwaukee Wisconsin. Blending layered synthesizers and acoustic guitar and percussion\, MATTHÚ takes inspiration from folk\, hip hop\, and experimental electronic genres. \n \n\n  \nDoors at 7:30pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $15

SUMMARY:North Warren w/ Lunar Moth\, The Rotundos\, & Old Timer * May 10\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:North Warren\, named after the street he lived on as he began releasing music\, is the creative endeavor of Luke Esperes\, an artist residing in Milwaukee\, WI. His influences come from bands such as Harvey Danger\, Let’s Wrestle\, and Built To Spill making grungy indie rock with an emotional weight. His first single\, USPS\, was released in the summer of 2019 and his second single\, Overdramatic\, September 7th 2019. In the midst of playing a handful of shows around Milwaukee\, North Warren celebrated their debut album release with an extravagant diy house show at the place where the project began. Luke writes and records his own music. In addition to that\, he has produced multiple albums for artists such as Good Sounds\, Kujo Koda\, Turner Valle and Forgetless. In whichever format Luke is expressing himself\, his primary goals remain the same: be honest\, create something meaningful\, and make people feel something – good or otherwise. \n \n\nLunar Moth \nSince 2019 this trio— amber moth (vocals/guitar)\, gage moth (drums)\, and mac moth (bass)— has been developing their own cosmic gumbo of pop hooks\, grunge\, and garage doom. Drawing heavily from their combined love of bands like frankie and the witch fingers\, and windhand. \nTheir first full-length album\, “honestly\, maybe\,” and 2022’s ep\, “in the mourning\,” explore a wide range of themes and sounds including fantasy-laden lyrics\, flippant sad girl rock\, heartfelt indie love songs\, and sludgy homages to their doom influences. \nTheir sophomore album\, “stranger” (released may 25th\, 2024)\, sees the trio focus their sound\, drawing on a well soaked in grunge\, distortion\, and deeply personal lyrics disguised as pop melodies. \n \n\nRotundos is a rock band from Chicago Illinois. \n \n\nOld Timer is also on the bill! \n\nDoors at 7pm\, Music at 8pm\, $10
