DESCRIPTION:Planned Parenthood Benefit with Eccentric Acoustic!  Doors at 3pm\, show at 4pm\, Donation at door goes to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin!! \n\nEccentric Acoustic is a trio featuring Ruth Williams on mandolin\, Sandy Stehling on guitar\, and Scott Emmons on bass. They perform a wide variety of music\, ranging from swing era jazz and country blues to more contemporary country\, folk\, and Americana. \nRuth Williams started singing harmony while doing the family dishes with her sister. She currently sings with Milwaukee’s Bel Canto Chorus. Ruth forsook the autoharp for the mandolin some years ago and has been a stalwart member of the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra for more than twenty years.Sandy Stehling began playing guitar as a way to avoid studying while attending UW-Madison. His transcript shows the success of this strategy. The lively folk music scene on campus at the time was a major influence. He has been heard playing as a soloist and in various groups in the Milwaukee area for many years. Scott Emmons\, a multi-instrumentalist\, is dean of the UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts. He performs in a classical guitar quartet\, plays mando-cello in the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra\, and is the director of the New Horizons Band in Waukesha. Ruth and Sandy have been making music together since they first met some thirtyyears ago. They have played with Scott informally in various musical gatherings in the Milwaukee area\, and have enjoyed collaborating with Scott seriously for the past four years. The process of combining three individuals’ musical tastes into an ensemble repertoire yields the serious fun that is Eccentric Acoustic. \n\nPaul Smith & Andy Jehly bring harmony\, humor\, and laid-back style to favorite songs from the past\, ranging from folk and blues to Motown and psychedelic rock. \nPaul and Andy come from very different musical backgrounds. Paul’s most significant musical  influences are 1960’s psychedelic and folk rock\, including the Grateful Dead\, Jefferson Airplane\, Arlo Guthrie\, Jorma Kaukonen\, the Beatles\, Larry Campbell\, the Byrds\, and Buffalo Springfield.  Andy’s are old traditional folk\, R&B\, and country\, including Pete Seeger\, Doc Watson\, Hank Williams\, Merle Haggard\, Aretha Franklin\, and Otis Redding. \nWhat they share is a passion for music with history\, great harmonies\, and evocative lyrics.  Together\, they specialize in bringing a fresh set of songs from a variety of genres each time they perform to engage audiences and get them singing along. Both multi-instrumentalists\, they incorporate guitar\, dobro\, bass\, and the one-of-a-kind gourdalele into their music. \nPaul and Andy have been playing together for the past year\, although they have been performing solo and with other groups (Paul is also part of the acoustic folk group Cadence) for several years. \n \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:00pm\, Show at 8:00\, $10\, 21+\n\nMan Random (Power-punk)\nTaking the stage at the storied Linneman’s Riverwest Inn\, Man Random is celebrating one year since the release of their debut album\, “Present Tense”! Self produced in the winter of 2020\, “Present Tense” casts a neon light over existential dread\, relationships\, and the unique struggles of being alive right now.\nhttps://manrandommke.bandcamp.com\n\n\n\n\n\nClementine (Post-Emo)\nHot off the trails of the release of their first post-hiatus track “Lucinda”\, the recently re-formed Clementine are back with a vengeance.\nFrom the band:\n“‘Lucinda’ is the first song of many more to come. [We] hope everybody loves it as much as we love playing”\nhttps://clem.bandcamp.com/\n\n\n\n\nThe Unitaskers (Indie Punk)\nLocal DIY cryptids The Unitaskers are bringing a smorgasbord of tunes new and old to a venue near you. Full-length album coming sometime between now and the heat death of the universe.\nhttps://theunitaskers.bandcamp.com/\n \n\n\nMan Random is a punky Milwaukee-based DIY power pop four-piece. Their punchy hooks and fuzzy melodies cast a neon light over heavy lyrics that cover relationships\, existential dread\, and the unique struggles of being alive right now. Formed in 2016 by guitarist/vocalist Steven Baird and bassist Benjamin Meredith\, they rounded out their lineup in 2019 with guitarist Matt Schmus and drummer Nate Otto.\nTheir lead single “Never Get It Right”\, which will be released on 8/6 along with a music video\, is a deliciously frustrated manifestation of living presently in the moment of failure. It’s punk and surf-rock influenced chorus takes you by the shoulders\, shakes you\, and asks what you’re doing with your life. “Never Get It Right” is a follow up to Man Random’s three quarantine period releases\, “Can’t Sit Still”\, “Death Perception” and “100%”. This triumvirate of power pop anthems share hooky leads\, a head banging tempo\, and lyrics that tackle fear\, failure\, and introspection. \n\nWisconsin’s Clementine: Hot off the trails of the release of their first post-hiatus track “Lucinda”\, the recently re-formed Clementine are back with a vengeance. \nFrom the band:\n“‘Lucinda’ is the first song of many more to come. [We] hope everybody loves it as much as we love playing”\n\n\n\nThe Unitaskers is an indie rock band from Milwaukee\, Wisconsin consisting of Dylan Thomas\, Joey B\, Andy de Junco\, Ian York\, and Keegan Phillips.\n\n\n\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:An evening of art & music by Indiana based artisan & national touring musician UaZit\, with local guest performances.\n\nThink alternative meets trip-hop with a twist of rock ‘n’ roll. UaZit is an uncanny\, comedically perverse lyricist. Wielding erratic vocal intonations while embodying dadaist mannerism in both creation & performance. His presence is unparalleled as he dually utilizes spaces both on & off of stage. In the words of the late Chuck Mosley (former Faith No More/Bad Brains vocalist)\, “thanks for playing & hypnotizing me.”\n\nWhile on the road\, UaZit is accompanied by his wife & creative partner\, WaZeil. A watercolor painter & illustrator practicing the art of alchemy by making her own natural watercolor paints & inks. Works by WaZeil consist of zippy paint splatters & disfigured anatomy that coexist together in harmony.\n\nStop by & experience their traveling art gallery & boutique of handmade wares at the merch booth.\n\n\n\n\n\nLocal Guest Performers:\nHannah Simone\nMaybe Hazel\nRocket Cat\n\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10 at the door

DESCRIPTION:Milwaukee WI’s Indonesian Junk take all the best elements of classic punk\, glam\, and power pop\, while ditching the fluff to create a sound often compared to the sleazy New York underground of the 1970s. All the while\, their catchy hook driven choruses and thick guitar sound maintain a freshness perfect for modern audiences. The band was formed in 2014 when Daniel James (Chinese Telephones / Ramma Lamma) posted some home recorded demos to Bandcamp. James quickly recruited bassist Johnny Cyanide (Nerve Twins) and a few others to begin playing the songs live. \n \nNato Coles & the Blue Diamond Band formed in 2010 on the west side of Minneapolis\, Minnesota. Best described as a high energy rock’n’roll band\, Nato and the Blue Diamond Band all come from a background of playing in various punk rock bands down over the years\, and that mentality is present in the more straight-ahead driving style of music they play\, with songs running the stylistic gamut from power-pop through garagey punk through Americana and rootsier material. Nato and the Blue Diamond Band have toured across the continent several times\, and might be doing so at this very moment\, depending on when one is reading this sentence. The current members of the band are Matt Engelstad (bass)\, Luke Lecheler (keyboards)\, Sam Beer (lead guitar)\, Mike Cranberry (drums)\, and Nato. \n \nMad Mojo Jett is a Party-Rock\, Garage-Trash\, Doom-Pop Quartet from\nMinneapolis\, MN. Featuring Mady and Monet from The Toxenes\, Joe from\nLow Rats\, and Eric from JettKick. \n \nDoors at 8pm\, show at 9pm\, $10

SUMMARY:September 4\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:Purple Funk Metropolis is acharismatic seven-piece instrumental band with a raw sound inspired by soul\, jazz\, funk\, and more. Their origins trace back to jazz classes at the University of Minnesota\, where Andrew Tomten (Bandleader and saxophone) met Alex Browne (trumpet)\, Sam Rosenstone (keys)\, Tarek Abdelqader (drums)\, and Andy Schupp (bass). \n \n\nFunky Chemist is an organ trio that fuses funky grooves with heavy guitar and adds a strand of psychedelic rock into what would otherwise be categorized as a jazz act. The music is most influenced by Stanton Moore Trio\, Soulive\, Dr. Lonnie Smith and The Meters. \nFunky Chemist released their first collection of songs 3/27/20. The band recorded with Ric Probst at Tanner-Monagle\, Gary Tanin at Daystorm mastered the album\, and the eight track effort clocks in at just under 38 minutes. The release has been well received\, debuting at #195 on the NACC Top 200\, and has looks from several outlets: \nVintage Guitar Magazine – July 2020\n“Eloquent 9th chords and adept soloing elevate a band with chemistry” \nThe Shepherd Express – Funky Chemist Cook Up Some New Grooves\n“an infectious mix of funk\, psychedelic rock and jazz.” \n \n\nBronzeville Jazz Experience opens the show. \nDoors at 6pm\, Show at 7:00pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Long Mama: Songwriter Kat Wodtke leads Andrew Koenig and Nick Lang (Ryan Necci & the Buffalo Gospel)\, along with Samual Odin (Horseshoes & Hand Grenades)\, on a haunting journey of wide-open spaces and tight spots\, each song blistering with heart and grit. \nWith a penchant for the theatrical\, Wodtke’s songs weave tall and not-so-tall tales of mountain manhunts\, doomed honeymoons\, stalled engines\, and gravel roads into an experience as captivating as the landscapes she’s traveled. Her longtime love affair with classic country\, folk\, Americana\, R&B\, and punk music braids each into Long Mama’s singular sound. The band has shared stages with Amy LaVere & Will Sexton\, Dead Horses\, The High Hawks\, Erik Koskinen\, Her Crooked Heart\, and Ben Dickey\, among others. \nLong Mama’s debut LP\, recorded by Erik Koskinen over a long\, snowy weekend in small-town Minnesota\, is due out in 2022. \n \n\nMusical missionary and tireless troubadour Jack Klatt isn’t one to be easily categorized or relegated to a narrow niche. He comes across as a young man with a wizened and worldly perspective\, an artist who possesses a timeless sensibility of both place and purpose. Yet\, his artistic integrity extends to more than simply his songs. It embodies both execution and intent. The way he’s mastered his deft finger-picking technique and used that sturdy approach to bring his material an authenticity reminiscent of the most revered musicians and storytellers. \nA product of the nation’s heartland\, Klatt was born and bred in the twin cities. He dropped out of college before spending the next six years pursuing his wanderlust and hitch hiking across the country with nothing but a backpack and a Martin guitar. He eventually made his way overseas\, where he slept under the stars\, traded songs for spending money and enjoyed a life typical of one who’s a drifter and bohemian. All the while\, he made it his mission to proffer the songs of the American masters\, from Woody Guthrie and Eddie Cochrane to Hank Williams and Marty Robbins. In the process\, he found himself captivated by the full gamut of archetypical American music — a singular style that encompasses folk\, blues\, rock\, rockabilly\, R&B\, and arcane country — and began to refashion it to suit his own style. \n \nAdvance Tickets can be found here: \nLong Mama & Jack Klatt at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn Tickets\, Thu\, Aug 25\, 2022 at 7:00 PM | Eventbrite \nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:LILLI LEWIS IS…\n1. A squishy humanist / Universal Dignity Enthusiast who loves pianos.\n2. A creator of #orangemusic–distant\, more sober cousin of the blues.\n3. Singer of songs “for the people” who sometimes likes to get loud about it.\n4. New orleans’ singer/composer of rare grace and grit.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs the story goes\, Lilli Lewis should never have been. Before she was born\, Lewis’ mother was told her baby probably wouldn’t survive due to lung trouble\, so the fact that Lewis now makes a living singing with those same lungs is a gift she never takes for granted. Lewis uses her voice to bring what she calls sacred songs into profane spaces\, and though she’s abandoned trying to define her sound\, she hopes her audiences leave shows knowing two things: that they are brilliant as they are\, and that they have the ability to use that brilliance to make a better world. \nTrained as an opera singer and classical pianist\, Georgia native Lewis has been a composer\, producer and performer for over two decades. After carving out space as an African American queer woman of size\, Lewis’ career has culminated in her album Americana being a top pick everywhere from NPR’s All Songs Considered to Rolling Stone. \nThe FolkRockDiva is a musical polyglot who glides easily between folk\, roots\, country soul\, gospel\, and jazz\, and has integrated New Orleans traditions by singing lead for Dirty Dozen Brass Band founding member Kirk Joseph’s Backyard Groove. Lewis’ Louisiana Red Hot Records releases include The Henderson Sessions\, We Belong\, and Americana. \nPowerhouse singer-songwriter Lilli Lewis has announced her 2022 tour\, including dates at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival\, Folk Alliance International Conference\, and The Kennedy Center which has called her: “A powerhouse performer adding her unique voice and talent to the national discussion of the state of social justice in America.” \nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10 cover
