SUMMARY:Beats Workin' Bluegrass w/ Patty & Craig * March 27\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Beats Workin’ \nThough not unique it is no less true that Beats Workin’ is the outgrowth of a series of jam sessions attended by 5 guys who love traditional bluegrass music\, while believing the genre is not set in stone- that through the joy of making music\, tasteful and creative contributions are waiting to be discovered (we think Bill would be proud!). As we each looked at the other 4 concluding we were all near-irreplaceable\, the transition to a band seemed quite natural. \nWho’s in the Band? \nViktor Brusubardis- Bass\, vocals \nViktor brusubardis began performing on the bass in the Spring of 2021\, joining members of Chicken Wire Empire\, The Millbillies\, and co-founding the Milwaukee bluegrass band\, “Sugar Bush.” He has shared the stage with artists Dead Horses\, Billy Bronsted (Billy Bronsted and the Bluegrass Buddies)\, Mike Mangione (Mike Mangione and the Kin)\, and others. Viktor enjoys playing different genres including Jazz\, Classical\, Bluegrass\, Folk\, Americana\, and Old Time Music. When Viktor is not playing the bass he performs as a classical cellist in Milwaukee’s Festival City Symphony and teaches cello in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Progressions Program. \nKen Finkel- Banjo\, vocals \nKen Finkel got involved in Bluegrass while at the University of Rochester (NY). Largely self-taught\, he made his way to Cincinnati where he met Dede Wyland and Jim Price through mutual friends. During a gig in Chicago\, they came down along with Peter Knupfer and Dan Crownover. Turned out they formed Grass\, Food\, and Lodging. In their five years together\, they built a strong regional following and gained national recognition\, appearing on the Prairie Home Companion\, and many prestigious festivals around the country. \nPeter Roller- Dobro\, vocals \nPeter Roller plays Dobro with Beats Workin’ and is a longtime performer and composer of fingerstyle and slide guitar music. In the 80’s he was main accompanist for 1’st generation bluesman Yank Rachell\, acting as Producer and playing guitar on the Grammy-nominated Blues Mandolin Man album. In the 90’s Roller’s original lap slide instrumental Rancho Mirage was included on the popular compilation Masters of Acoustic Guitar\, while he also performed and recorded with dance band Paul Cebar & the Milwaukeeans\, gospel quartet The Masonic Wonders\, and Violent Femmes bassist Brian Richie. After retiring as Professor Emeritus from Alverno College\, Roller returned to his early love for Bluegrass and old-time Country Dobro\, writing adventuresome pieces and performing with eclectic band The Resonators along with Beats Workin.’ \nJohn Stineman- Mandolin\, vocals \nGrowing up in Wabash\, IN\, John Stineman was introduced to Bluegrass music by the many people who migrated from Appalachia for employment. Upon witnessing an exceptional flat picker in the local music store\, he decided he could “do that”\, bought himself a guitar and commenced. After refining his musicianship and moving to Florida\, he founded the Kitchen Table Boys\, his first success in music. He eventually became a member of Big Timber Bluegrass\, a long time Orlando-based band that been founded by Chubby Anthony\, who had fiddled with the Stanley Brothers\, and later featured frequent guest appearances by Chubby Wise\, legendary fiddler with Bill Monroe in the late 1940’s. Upon moving to Ashville\, NC in 2001\, he co-founded One Leg Up\, a five piece swing ensemble that toured the Southeast until 2019. \nJerry Wicentowski- Guitar\, lead vocals \nAs a teenager growing up in New York City\, Jerry was inspired to sing Bluegrass music by the recordings and personal appearances in New York-area clubs of first generation bluegrass artists riding the wave of the 1960’s interest in folk music. His high clear voice carries on the tradition of the pioneers of Bluegrass\, but his singing is far from a pale imitation or carbon copy of those early greats. Jerry’s performances have uniqueness\, depth of feeling\, and most important\, respect and reverence for the music. He revisited the material of one of his early inspirations in his most recent CD\, a tribute to Mac Wiseman entitled\, ‘Thanks\, Mac!’ Mac himself praised Jerry’s work saying “Jerry\, I’m flattered by your interpretation of my material and I think it’s a wonderful piece of work! I heartily endorse it\, and I’m very pleased that you’re carrying on my legacy.” In October of 2019\, just prior to pandemic’s onset\, Jerry featured material from his recording on the stage of Nashville’s historic Station Inn\, accompanied by some of that city’s outstanding Bluegrass musicians. \n \n\n\nDescribed as genuinely talented with classic folk voices\, Patty Stevenson and Craig Siemsen are known for their gorgeous harmonies\, impeccable musicianship\, playful stage humor\, and jewel-like original songs. Patty says about performing\, “I try for magic – nothing less! For the place that opens hearts and will move an audience to tears or smiles.” \nPatty and Craig were individually ‘out there’ enjoying their music\, when\, in the mid – 1980s\, they met while performing at a folk music festival. For many years\, the couple maintained solo careers\, even after they married. Eventually\, with the prodding of wise friends\, they agreed to perform one show as a duo. The rest\, as they say\, is history. Today\, they continue to create and record original songs as well as their own variations on timeless pieces that often span the ages of creativity in sound. \n \n\nFacebook Event Page Here! \nDoor at 6:00pm\, Music at 7:00pm\, $12

SUMMARY:Dandy Freling w/ King Courteen\, & Kati Katchever * March 21\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Dandy Freling:   A highway-kind traveler combining a touch of the high and lonesome hollers of the Appalachian hill people with the low-down\, dusty grooves of the cosmic cowboys\, Dandy has created a unique sonic banquet sure to satisfy the hunger of any weary passerby. A boot stompin’ finger picker with remnant hollers of the greats of our past – Don’t be afraid to stop awhile\, and fill up your plate\, there’s plenty to go around. \nWebsite: https://www.dandyfreling.com/ \nYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@dandyl.freling467/videos \nBandcamp: https://dandylfreling.bandcamp.com/ \nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dandyfreling/ \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/dandy.l.freling/ \n \n\nMichael Gerlach builds beautiful things from nothing. As a woodworker\, he transforms razed relics from Milwaukee’s industrial past into things like furniture and visual art. As King Courteen\, the Riverwest singer-songwriter and pastor’s son constructs folk renderings known to captivate audiences using little more than the raw material of an acoustic guitar and his re-purposed choral background. -Milwaukee Record \n \n\nKati Katchever:    Songpoet in hues of high blue and deep amber\, a flute-throated loon catching light between dusk and dawn. SUMMARY:Outlier * March 16\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Three veterans of the Milwaukee Music scene are bringing their experience to a new project under the name of Outlier. The group is a three-piece acoustic-based band that is intent on keeping the focus on original material with a smattering of retooled covers (many by local songwriters) that features strong vocal harmonies. \nBarry Patton began his career as a solo folk singer during the early seventies before switching to studio work and electric rock bands in the late seventies\, eighties and into the nineties. \nBo Conlon has been playing in rock bands since the seventies as a drummer\, including stints with Pat McCurdy & The Confidentials and The Bodeans. He currently also plays with Louie & The Flashbombs and Deerfrance among other side projects. \nKris Wolfram had a number of bands in the eighties\, including The Sidewalks and Covert Operation\, and also worked as a back-up with Patton for his cousin Peggy James in the nineties that included a performance at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe. Both Conlon and Wolfram played on Patton’s 1990 cassette lp Valley Of Dust\, along with members of Semi-Twang\, Sad But True and The Confidentials. \n \nDoors at 3:00pm\, Music at 4:00pm\, $10

SUMMARY:Bella Bruto w/ The Aimless Blades * March 15\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Bella Brutto is a veteran Milwaukee rock band playing an eclectic mix of original and danceable cover tunes from the far reaches of your odd cousin’s vinyl collection. Depending on Bella’s mood\, you may hear The Monkees or System of a Down\, Marcy Playground or The Squirrel Nut Zippers. And then… the accordion comes out! \n \n\n\nOur pace is glacial. Jim Richardson has played in bands since 1964. He drummed with Milwaukee’s first punk band Death in 1971. Multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Scott Krueger played with Richardson in a number of bands including The Shivvers. Blaine Schultz began The Aimless Blades as a 4-track recording project decades ago with a revolving cast of friends releasing a few cassette albums. By 2000\, it had become a live band eventually releasing four more albums on CD. These are being made available for the first time digitally on https://3000hits.bandcamp.com/. In 2015 Jim Richardson Jr. began playing with us\, initially guesting on guitar before moving over to bass. We can now brag about being a multi-generational band\, powered by the Richardson Rhythm Machine Engine Room. \n \nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $10 \nFacebook Event Page! \n\n

SUMMARY:White Dry Pages w/ 3 Springs\, & Little Otik * March 14\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:A very talented original band for just several months\, White Dry Pages are three weathered music nerds and a new young buck bassist. Ricky Ganiere\, Rob Bueno\, Ryan Elliott & Donovan Ganiere are ready to bring the alt-country singalongs and messy rock n’ roll to Linneman’s on March 14th\, 2025. \n \n\nLittle Otik is a solo project by Dan Bullock\, formerly of the Scarring Party. Little Otik is from Milwaukee. As cities go\, it’s a little unsure of itself. Milwaukee and Little Otik have that in common. Their debut Startled By His Own Tail is a failed country album about failure. \n \n\nThree Springs is a brand new indie rock-ish\, at times slightly funky and experimental band out of Door County\, Wisconsin. \n  \nThe group was formed by Memphis transplant Paul Taylor as an outlet for many of his songs and instrumentals which have previously only existed in recorded form on solo releases under his own name (and his nom de plume New Memphis Colorways)\, but has turned into a vehicle for new material written specifically for\, and with\, the band.  \n  \nRounding out the trio are Door County native John Frater on bass and vocals and Minominee\, MI native Adam Cain on drums.  \n  \nTheir eponymous debut record is streaming across all platforms \n\nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Longtime friends with deep musical roots that intertwine\, the Bill Camplin Band pulls from deep American Folk roots\, blues and songs with message and melody. Tinged with humor\, sadness and joy\, the band still moves audiences after 40 years of performing. \nSince the late 1960’s\, Bill Camplin has stood out as one of Wisconsin’s finest songwriter’s. Jewels of his like “January Guitar” and ‘Rock Friend” were hard to miss on Milwaukee progressive radio stations. With a voice as pure and soothing as one can experience\, Bill is an absolute must see! See him this evening at Linneman’s!! Early show beginning around 7:30PM\, doors at 6:30. \n \nBand Members\nJASON KLAGSTAD – Guitars\, backing vocals – Jason is considered one of the top live and studio musicians in the Milwaukee area and has been playing professionally for over 45 years.  He has been a member of several area and nationally known bands\, including stints with Howie Epstein (Tom Petty)\, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)\, Arroyo\, Color Radio\, Warner Bros. recording artist\, Semi-Twang\, \nPAUL WEHRLEY – Bass guitar – Although Paul played trombone in marching band while in high school\, he did not envision trombone as his musical nexus. A couple of friends needed a bass player and Paul\, always the organizer\, agreed. From 1974 – 1982 Paul co-founded and played with both RIO and Arroyo\, two of the region’s seminal Country Rock bands. \nDoors 6:30\, Music 7:30\, $20

SUMMARY:Francesca & the Night Sky CD Release w/ Bernie Bernhoft * February 23\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Francesca & the Night Sky CD Release w/ Bernie Bernhoft \nDoors at 1:00pm Music at 2:00pm\, No Cover \n\nProlific songwriter Francesca played the Milwaukee area for years solo and as leader of the well-loved “Francesca and the 440 Hum”. \nFrancesca and guitarist Tom Plutshack were casually acquainted from the local music scene and when she booked a one-off show at Milwaukee’s long-running The Coffee House\, she asked Tom for help in putting a set together. \nDespite a difference in background (and maybe personality) the pieces fit together awfully well.  The one-off turned into the duo Francesca & Tom playing around town for couple years. \nFrancesca started wanting to bring up the energy and sound of their project and make it noisy and rude enough to fit comfortably into the rowdy bars where she felt most at home. [Ed.: Just kidding Frannie] \nTom turned to a couple skilled players he knew from earlier adventures in the cover band scene\, drummer Mike Farrow and bassist/multi-instrumentalist Larry Koehn. Again\, the pieces just fit. \n \n\nBernie Bernhoft is a Milwaukee singer/songwriter and will open the show. \n \n\nDoors at 1:00pm\, Music at 2:00pm\, No Cover

SUMMARY:Adorner w/ Motherwind\, and Whiskey & the Devil * February 21\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Adorner is the new psychedelic prog-rock force\, with a mission to adorn their creation “for the sake of beauty alone”. The group is the brainchild of songwriter Madeline Stadel\, and is based out of Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. ADORNER is known for the powerful lyrics and evocative vocals of Madeline\, combined with celestial song structures\, with instrumentation fully realized in a psych-rock canvas by her band. \n \n\nHidden deep along the river bends of Eau Claire\, Wisconsin\, you’ll find Motherwind. Forming in August of 2020\, the quartet—Anthony Frey (vocals\, guitar)\, Nate Rogers (lead guitar)\, Michael Hargens (bass)\, Jackson Kleingartner (drums)—has already taken lengthy strides in revealing their primal artistry to the masses\, despite their formation amid the coronavirus pandemic. The group originally began writing songs under the name “The Color Scene” at a horse sanctuary owned by a mutual friend. Since then\, the band has branded themselves under the new name with an electrifying live show in their arsenal. The young group’s 70s-bred roots and alt-groove sound has left the floors of rock clubs and bars tremoring. \n \n\nWhiskey and the Devil serves up an original\, unrelenting\, flight of Rock & Roll\, saturated with grimy\, 180 proof riffs and searing guitars straight from the still. Best enjoyed straight\, no chaser. \n \n\nDoor at 7:00pm\, Music at 8pm\, $10

Thank you to everyone who showed up\, signed up\, brought food– y’all killed it with the food this year!!– and offered to help with anything needed. I adore and appreciate ALL of you.\nThere were a handful of people not at the drawing. If you didn’t get your missing band mate contact info at the drawing\, or if you cannot reach someone (it’s possible I screwed something up too!) please get in touch with me.I’ll recap the rules once more here in case anyone needs a refresher…♫ There are a total of 16 bands\, consisting of 4 people each. The bands will perform over a two-night showcase at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn on Friday February 14th and Saturday February 15th (8 bands each night). Each band needs to come up with a 15–20-minute set of original music and ONE cover song. The event takes place in a bar and is therefore 21+ only.\n\n♫ If someone drops out of your band for whatever reason- DON’T PANIC. Think of it as an opportunity to team up with someone who isn’t a quitter\, or if you choose– continue on with just existing members\, a chance to be a trio\, or a duo\, or even a solo if that’s your vibe?should you need to drop out contact me and your band. Should you want a replacement- Contact me\, and I will randomly draw from the reserve list and get you and your new bandmate in touch. We have a few reserves now who are just waiting to be your next bandmate\, but the list isn’t currently super long. If we run out of reserves- Think of this as motivation to recruit some reserves and do everything you can to make shit with your existing band mates work.\nYou may not recruit others from outside specifically for your band. You may not swap members with other bands. You may not quit a band and sign up again as a reserve in the same year.you CAN quit and come back next year in a band\, and everyone is welcome at the shows always. Also\, if you need to drop out of your band\, please let me and your band know as soon as possible.\n♫ Each band must name itself by Friday January 3rd at 11:59pm. This must come in the form of a Facebook message\, email\, text message\, or written on paper. If you do not submit a name\, I will name your band for you. No amount of begging or excuses will change my mind. By this date\, I also need to know if your band can only play one of the two nights. I’ve got to make the schedule and get posters made\, etc…but I will try my best to accommodate bands with a schedule conflict. I’m juggling 16 bands so please keep show date requests to real conflicts– not just because you don’t want to play a certain night. Once the schedule is made\, I will not change it. There’s plenty of time to plan ahead.\n♫ To keep things running smoothly\, there will be shared equipment on stage each night. After the schedule comes out (after band names are in)\, I will begin asking for volunteers who want to offer up their gear. The following will need to be provided:– 1 Drum set– 1 Guitar amp ( there are 2 on stage I will be providing one of them but we need one more)– 1 Bass amp– Linneman’s PA system and mics.I know not every band fits this exact setup\, but it works for most people. Jim can also run instruments directly through the PA. You should bring your own instrument cables\, pedals\, picks\, drumsticks\, etc.. Jim has Vocal mics for us to use however if you’d like to bring your own feel free. As in past years drummers have been asked to bring their own sticks and cymbals. If you want to share drum gear\, thats cool- but work it out on your own. More on that once the schedule comes out.\n♫ If anyone would like to still sign up on for the reserve list\, WE NEED YOU!!!!! just message me via my Facebook\, the AMU FB page\, or email me (Jess) Olivekroha@gmail.com with your name\, pronouns\, email\, phone number\, and the name(s) of anyone who you absolutely cannot be in a band with (these requests will be honored and kept confidential).\nI can’t tell you how much the energy at the drawing warmed my heart and soul. You all are fantastic\, beautiful\, amazing creative humans and I can’t wait to see what awesome chaos you all create this year. With all the new sign ups I’m happy to help if you hit a road block on your new band adventure. Please get in touch if you have any questions.and without further babbling …here’s the line up!xoxo-Jess
