SUMMARY:Luke Callen w/ Old Pup\, & The Nunnery * December 8\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an experimental evening of Collaborative Midwest Music featuring The Nunnery (Eau Claire\, WI) – Old Pup (Milwaukee\, WI) and Luke Callen (Minneapolis\, MN) and joined by a rhythm section composed of Chris Gray on Drums and Simon Cropp on Bass.  These musicians are frequent collaborators behind the scenes and will be joining forces for three nights on stages across the Upper Midwest showcasing songs from their own catalogues as well as a handful of improvised compositions – ranging from cosmic country and americana to dream pop and extended vocal techniques. \n\nLuke Callen is an adept songwriter and fingerstyle guitar player – making his home at the intersection of Harry Smith’s Old Weird America and the Strange Country he finds himself in today.  His experiments in song and guitar have led him to write deeply nuanced pieces about the American experience as well as proficient instrumentals based in the soundscapes of the natural world.  https://lukecallen.com/ \n \n\nOld Pup creates warmly haunted folk music – combining curiously unique lyrics on top of cosmic arrangements that create a cosmic landscape here on earth.  Well known for his songwriting and singing – Old Pup also plays an intrinsic role in producing some of the Midwest’s up and coming musicians – alongside joining a number of them on his two sad machines – the Pedal and Lap Steel. https://oldpup.bandcamp.com/music \n \n\n\n\n\nThe Nunnery begins with one voice\, layered upon itself becoming a lush soundscape. She is an independent musician that bridges the gap between bright-eyed pop composition and hands-on atmospheric live layering of voice. Her vocal loops give us the kind of detail and wide multi-octave range that we might come to expect from a marquee pop star\, while her production decisions continually keep us guessing as to what rabbit holes her tracks might fall into next.  https://thenunnerymusic.com/home \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nDoors at 5:00pm\, Music at 6:00pm\, $10

SUMMARY:Daniel Rey & the Revenirs w/ Bellends * January 31\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Daniel Rey & the Revenirs are a Chicago Alt-Country outfit whose tunes embrace a sonic sensibility reminiscent of the Drive-By Truckers\, Whiskeytown\, Son Volt and the Sadies. \nThe Revenirs sound revolves around singer/songwriter Daniel Rey’s tales of “sorrow and solitude” like a fever dream embodied by the many “low down” souls he’s encountered along the way. The band features Dennis Kardys on guitar and Dean Radzik on drums\, both alums of Chicagoland alt-country darlings\, The Dirty Green alongside former The Soup (Denton TX) bassist\, Dodgy Mary (Chicago) vocalist and Lone Star Native “Catfish” Willy Hudson on bass. \n“Daniel Rey” began as the solo Alt-country\, side-project of singer/songwriter Dejan Kralj (day-on kraal)\, who has spent the last three and a half decades as the bass guitarist and one of the primary songwriters for Milwaukee’s reclusive alternative-rock band\, The Gufs.  The former Atlantic Recording/EMI Publishing Artist and 2012 Wisconsin Area Music Industry Hall of Fame Inductee is a life-time resident of the Midwest\, Rey (the Spanish translation of Kralj) and divides his time between his current home in the Veltway community of Berwyn and a small farm in Southeastern Indiana\, which has been the source of his alt-folk/alt-country musings over the last twenty-five years. \n \n\nBellends formed in the studio around a project that evolved into the record “A Feast for the Crows”  Now making waves with their unique mix of heady driving rhythms\, soaring guitar solos\, and lyrics that cut straight to the heart. Their songs tell the stories of love\, loss\, and the struggles of everyday life with the passion and intensity that could only come from the streets and dives of Milwaukee. When they take the stage\, the band delivers their catchy hook driven songs with that same train driving intensity.  Beginning to end their performances are moving as they are powerful. \n \n\nFacebook Event Page here! \n\nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 7:30pm\, $10

SUMMARY:Louie & the Flashbombs w/ The Flavor that Kills * February 1\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Powered by Louie Lucchesi’s unmistakable voice\, Louie & The Flashbombs perform original songs co-authored by Lucchesi and veteran Milwaukee songwriter Mike Benign. The Flashbombs’ songs blend Lucchesi’s love of 1970s New York City rock with Benign’s knack for hooky alternative pop. \nRounding out The Flahsbombs are a Who’s Who of Milwaukee musicians: drummer Bo Conlon (BoDeans\, Pat McCurdy\, Crime Family)\, bass Paul Biemann (Blue in The Face\, The Mike Benign Compulsion\, Arms & Legs & Feet)\, guitarist Al Hildenbrand (Pet Engine\, Britpop) and keyboardist Matt Meixner (Mea Jima\, Milwaukee Underground Duo). \nLucchesi began his career performing at notorious New York City nightclubs like Tramps\, CBGB’s and The Bitter End. He returned to Milwaukee and fronted bands that included Crime Family\, Brother Louie and Klaus Nomi’s Homies. \n \n\nThe Flavor that Kills is a driving\, frenetic soul-punk from Madison\, WI. Now with synthesizers! \n \nDoors at 7:00pm\, Show at 8:00pm. $10 \n\n

SUMMARY:Celebrity Sighting w/ The Resurrectionists * February 7\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Celebrity Sighting are a new band from Madison led by Tyler Fassnacht\, aka Baby Tyler\, and Danielle Tucci. They play ragged garage-pop that pleasingly merges hard-charging rock ‘n’ roll with the kind of indie-pop that proliferates from Oceania and the Midwest alike — “fuzzy bubblegum\,” as see/saw calls it. With Fassnacht and Tucci shouting piercing melodies together over a scrappy\, guitar-driven foundation\, I can’t help but think of the great Times New Viking\, though Celebrity Sighting’s debut They’re Just Like Us isn’t quite that lo-fi. Thematically\, song titles like “Market Value” and “Are You Insured?” pair nicely with ones like “Hourglass\,” “Survival\,” and “Climate Change” — all aspects of the same fucked-up modern experience. Or as Celebrity Sighting put it on the ultra-catchy “Competitive Streak”: “I know they can be different/ But these problems are the same to me.” – Stereogum \n\nThe Resurrectionists came together in early 2019. The project emerged after the breakup of another band called Work\, in which the bassist and singer/guitarist Joe Cannon were both members. \nWork had a mix of punk energy and slower\, desperate-sounding songs. When Work disbanded due to the drummer moving to Texas\, Joe and bassist Jeff Brueggeman explored various successor projects. \nThe Resurrectionists were born out of the idea of focusing exclusively on the slower\, more melancholic side of their music \n \n\nAlso: Robits! \nDoors 8:00pm\, Music 9:00pm\, $10 \n\n

Thank you to everyone who showed up\, signed up\, brought food– y’all killed it with the food this year!!– and offered to help with anything needed. I adore and appreciate ALL of you.\nThere were a handful of people not at the drawing. If you didn’t get your missing band mate contact info at the drawing\, or if you cannot reach someone (it’s possible I screwed something up too!) please get in touch with me.I’ll recap the rules once more here in case anyone needs a refresher…♫ There are a total of 16 bands\, consisting of 4 people each. The bands will perform over a two-night showcase at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn on Friday February 14th and Saturday February 15th (8 bands each night). Each band needs to come up with a 15–20-minute set of original music and ONE cover song. The event takes place in a bar and is therefore 21+ only.\n\n♫ If someone drops out of your band for whatever reason- DON’T PANIC. Think of it as an opportunity to team up with someone who isn’t a quitter\, or if you choose– continue on with just existing members\, a chance to be a trio\, or a duo\, or even a solo if that’s your vibe?should you need to drop out contact me and your band. Should you want a replacement- Contact me\, and I will randomly draw from the reserve list and get you and your new bandmate in touch. We have a few reserves now who are just waiting to be your next bandmate\, but the list isn’t currently super long. If we run out of reserves- Think of this as motivation to recruit some reserves and do everything you can to make shit with your existing band mates work.\nYou may not recruit others from outside specifically for your band. You may not swap members with other bands. You may not quit a band and sign up again as a reserve in the same year.you CAN quit and come back next year in a band\, and everyone is welcome at the shows always. Also\, if you need to drop out of your band\, please let me and your band know as soon as possible.\n♫ Each band must name itself by Friday January 3rd at 11:59pm. This must come in the form of a Facebook message\, email\, text message\, or written on paper. If you do not submit a name\, I will name your band for you. No amount of begging or excuses will change my mind. By this date\, I also need to know if your band can only play one of the two nights. I’ve got to make the schedule and get posters made\, etc…but I will try my best to accommodate bands with a schedule conflict. I’m juggling 16 bands so please keep show date requests to real conflicts– not just because you don’t want to play a certain night. Once the schedule is made\, I will not change it. There’s plenty of time to plan ahead.\n♫ To keep things running smoothly\, there will be shared equipment on stage each night. After the schedule comes out (after band names are in)\, I will begin asking for volunteers who want to offer up their gear. The following will need to be provided:– 1 Drum set– 1 Guitar amp ( there are 2 on stage I will be providing one of them but we need one more)– 1 Bass amp– Linneman’s PA system and mics.I know not every band fits this exact setup\, but it works for most people. Jim can also run instruments directly through the PA. You should bring your own instrument cables\, pedals\, picks\, drumsticks\, etc.. Jim has Vocal mics for us to use however if you’d like to bring your own feel free. As in past years drummers have been asked to bring their own sticks and cymbals. If you want to share drum gear\, thats cool- but work it out on your own. More on that once the schedule comes out.\n♫ If anyone would like to still sign up on for the reserve list\, WE NEED YOU!!!!! just message me via my Facebook\, the AMU FB page\, or email me (Jess) Olivekroha@gmail.com with your name\, pronouns\, email\, phone number\, and the name(s) of anyone who you absolutely cannot be in a band with (these requests will be honored and kept confidential).\nI can’t tell you how much the energy at the drawing warmed my heart and soul. You all are fantastic\, beautiful\, amazing creative humans and I can’t wait to see what awesome chaos you all create this year. With all the new sign ups I’m happy to help if you hit a road block on your new band adventure. SUMMARY:Adorner w/ Motherwind\, and Whiskey & the Devil * February 21\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Adorner is the new psychedelic prog-rock force\, with a mission to adorn their creation “for the sake of beauty alone”. The group is the brainchild of songwriter Madeline Stadel\, and is based out of Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. ADORNER is known for the powerful lyrics and evocative vocals of Madeline\, combined with celestial song structures\, with instrumentation fully realized in a psych-rock canvas by her band. \n \n\nHidden deep along the river bends of Eau Claire\, Wisconsin\, you’ll find Motherwind. Forming in August of 2020\, the quartet—Anthony Frey (vocals\, guitar)\, Nate Rogers (lead guitar)\, Michael Hargens (bass)\, Jackson Kleingartner (drums)—has already taken lengthy strides in revealing their primal artistry to the masses\, despite their formation amid the coronavirus pandemic. The group originally began writing songs under the name “The Color Scene” at a horse sanctuary owned by a mutual friend. Since then\, the band has branded themselves under the new name with an electrifying live show in their arsenal. The young group’s 70s-bred roots and alt-groove sound has left the floors of rock clubs and bars tremoring. \n \n\nWhiskey and the Devil serves up an original\, unrelenting\, flight of Rock & Roll\, saturated with grimy\, 180 proof riffs and searing guitars straight from the still. Best enjoyed straight\, no chaser. \n \n\nDoor at 7:00pm\, Music at 8pm\, $10

SUMMARY:Francesca & the Night Sky CD Release w/ Bernie Bernhoft * February 23\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Francesca & the Night Sky CD Release w/ Bernie Bernhoft \nDoors at 1:00pm Music at 2:00pm\, No Cover \n\nProlific songwriter Francesca played the Milwaukee area for years solo and as leader of the well-loved “Francesca and the 440 Hum”. \nFrancesca and guitarist Tom Plutshack were casually acquainted from the local music scene and when she booked a one-off show at Milwaukee’s long-running The Coffee House\, she asked Tom for help in putting a set together. \nDespite a difference in background (and maybe personality) the pieces fit together awfully well.  The one-off turned into the duo Francesca & Tom playing around town for couple years. \nFrancesca started wanting to bring up the energy and sound of their project and make it noisy and rude enough to fit comfortably into the rowdy bars where she felt most at home. [Ed.: Just kidding Frannie] \nTom turned to a couple skilled players he knew from earlier adventures in the cover band scene\, drummer Mike Farrow and bassist/multi-instrumentalist Larry Koehn. Again\, the pieces just fit. \n \n\nBernie Bernhoft is a Milwaukee singer/songwriter and will open the show. \n \n\nDoors at 1:00pm\, Music at 2:00pm\, No Cover

SUMMARY:Bill Camplin Band * March 13\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Longtime friends with deep musical roots that intertwine\, the Bill Camplin Band pulls from deep American Folk roots\, blues and songs with message and melody. Tinged with humor\, sadness and joy\, the band still moves audiences after 40 years of performing. \nSince the late 1960’s\, Bill Camplin has stood out as one of Wisconsin’s finest songwriter’s. Jewels of his like “January Guitar” and ‘Rock Friend” were hard to miss on Milwaukee progressive radio stations. With a voice as pure and soothing as one can experience\, Bill is an absolute must see! See him this evening at Linneman’s!! Early show beginning around 7:30PM\, doors at 6:30. \n \nBand Members\nJASON KLAGSTAD – Guitars\, backing vocals – Jason is considered one of the top live and studio musicians in the Milwaukee area and has been playing professionally for over 45 years.  He has been a member of several area and nationally known bands\, including stints with Howie Epstein (Tom Petty)\, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)\, Arroyo\, Color Radio\, Warner Bros. recording artist\, Semi-Twang\, \nPAUL WEHRLEY – Bass guitar – Although Paul played trombone in marching band while in high school\, he did not envision trombone as his musical nexus. A couple of friends needed a bass player and Paul\, always the organizer\, agreed. From 1974 – 1982 Paul co-founded and played with both RIO and Arroyo\, two of the region’s seminal Country Rock bands. \nDoors 6:30\, Music 7:30\, $20

SUMMARY:White Dry Pages w/ 3 Springs\, & Little Otik * March 14\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:A very talented original band for just several months\, White Dry Pages are three weathered music nerds and a new young buck bassist. Ricky Ganiere\, Rob Bueno\, Ryan Elliott & Donovan Ganiere are ready to bring the alt-country singalongs and messy rock n’ roll to Linneman’s on March 14th\, 2025. \n \n\nLittle Otik is a solo project by Dan Bullock\, formerly of the Scarring Party. Little Otik is from Milwaukee. As cities go\, it’s a little unsure of itself. Milwaukee and Little Otik have that in common. Their debut Startled By His Own Tail is a failed country album about failure. \n \n\nThree Springs is a brand new indie rock-ish\, at times slightly funky and experimental band out of Door County\, Wisconsin. \n  \nThe group was formed by Memphis transplant Paul Taylor as an outlet for many of his songs and instrumentals which have previously only existed in recorded form on solo releases under his own name (and his nom de plume New Memphis Colorways)\, but has turned into a vehicle for new material written specifically for\, and with\, the band.  \n  \nRounding out the trio are Door County native John Frater on bass and vocals and Minominee\, MI native Adam Cain on drums.  \n  \nTheir eponymous debut record is streaming across all platforms \n\nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $10
