SUMMARY:April 12\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:Mouse Corn is a three piece power pop trio from Milwaukee\, WI aimed at one thing with their music: having good old-fashioned fun. The trio came together when singer/guitarist Myles Coyne was seeking new members for his past project. After trying out Steve Vorass on drums and Chuck Zink on bass\, Coyne quickly realized that he had found a crew who far exceed his meager hopes for a “backing band” and the three began a new group\, Mouse Corn. \nCoyne had been performing material solo and under various folk/rock monikers for years. By the time Mouse Corn had formed\, he had grown bored of acoustic guitars and harmonica holders. With encouragement from his friends\, Myles picked up a electric guitar and started practicing his scales. In his room he played with his amp to explore guitar tones. Suddenly he found an entire new world of sound and opportunity before him. \nAlso on the bill tonight are: Dogs At Large\, Devils Teeth\, & Action Jelly!

DESCRIPTION:Tom Neilson provides a voice for those who believe in the power of folk music to effect change. His award-winning songs of humor and compassion have been performed in 21 countries on 5 continents. His lyrics are celebrated for their sophistication\, political astuteness\, & wit. \nCombining art with activism\, he has appeared with Medea Benjamin\, Cynthia McKinney\, Amy Goodman\, Cindy Sheehan\, Cesar Chavez\, Noam Chomsky\, Ralph Nader\, Ray McGovern\, Howard Zinn\, David Cobb\, many others\, & played at the Martin Luther King Center in Havana\, Cuba. \nHis travels are reflected in his songs\, intertwined with farm roots and a fervent commitment to social justice\, as he writes about historical and current events. He has been at the for-front in helping communities organize against water privatization\, mountain top removal\, nuclear energy\, incinerators\, GMOs\, fracking\, & toxic waste. \nKnown locally as the Bard Insurgent\, Tom is a veteran of stage and street theater with his writing\, acting\, and directing. His songs draw the listener into his musical response to globalization. \nHe plays at union halls\, colleges\, conferences\, cafes\, house concerts\, and has performed for countless benefits and causes. His music has been used in documentaries\, TV shows\, stage and street theater as he tells the stories of people’s struggles against greed & violence\, interjecting a good deal of levity along the way. If you ask him\, he’ll tell you he’s just a farm boy with a guitar who loves a good ball game and human rights. \n  \nTonight’s performance is a fundraiser for the Milwaukee chaper for “Veterans for Peace.”

DESCRIPTION:Paper Holland didn’t start out the same way as most bands. They didn’t use their parents’ open garage space or half-done basement for years of practice before the big first album. Paper Holland simply skipped that stage and went straight into creating their first album\, Happy Belated. Or so they say. They are group that can not even decide their own genre\, other than that is some kind of pop. Andy Kosanke (guitar)\, Joe Tomcheck(vocals/guitar)\, Ted Powers (drums) and Mark Yencheske (bass) make up the collective. The inspiration for their playful\, feel good music comes from anything and everything.” \n“While previous comparisons to guitar-centric bands like the Shins are still accurate\, the songs on Fast Food also recall acts like Death Cab For Cutie and Vampire Weekend – hooky and melodic with an equal emphasis on rhythm and groove.” \nFilling out the bill tonight are: Nelson Devereaux And His Style Band\,  the debut of Yum Yum Cult\,  & Special Guest!

DESCRIPTION:Bill Camplin is a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist who began playing professionally in the Milwaukee Area in the late 1960’s. Bill writes and arranges his own material and has produced a considerable body of work. Bill was an integral part of the Milwaukee acoustic folk scene for many years and appeared regularly at various clubs including the Blue River Café\, Numero Unos\, The Crystal Palace\, The Avante Garde and the 19th Street Coffee House. \nBand Members\nJASON KLAGSTAD – Guitars\, backing vocals – Jason is considered one of the top live and studio musicians in the Milwaukee area and has been playing professionally for over 45 years. \nHe has been a member of several area and nationally known bands\, including stints with Howie Epstein (Tom Petty)\, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)\, Arroyo\, Color Radio\, Warner Bros. recording artist\, Semi-Twang\, Bill Camplin (since 1974) and the local rock band favorite\, Plumb Loco. His distinctive guitar playing style has been featured on many recordings. With Peter Buffet for example\, he recorded film\, tv and recording projects\, appearing on 3 Buffett albums and the soundtrack for the Kevin Costner television special\, 500 Nations. During his performing/recording career\, Jason also ran several area music stores\, including his own – Big Music\, a specialty music instrument store\, until the mid1990’s. \nBOB ‘HOT DOG’ MUELLER – drums\, stoicism – Forty-plus years on the SE Wisconsin music scene. The driving force behind a range of bands spanning Bill Camplin’s Woodbine to virtually every A-list blues combo (Short Stuff\, Billy Flynn\, Raw Rockers\, Leroy Airmaster) and Camplin’s current ensemble. \nPAUL WEHRLEY – Bass guitar – Although Paul played trombone in marching band while in high school\, he did not envision trombone as his musical nexus. A couple of friends needed a bass player and Paul\, always the organizer\, agreed. From 1974 – 1982 Paul co-founded and played with both RIO and Arroyo\, two of the region’s seminal Country Rock bands. His early immersion in that genre provided a deep connection with Bill Camplin’s material. \nAfter his four year stint with Arroyo he became one of region’s top studio engineers\, typically working out of Waukesha’s Breezeway studios producing albums for many regional and national Artists. During this time he also played for many years with local cover rock band\, Plumb Loco. Today\, Paul is a property manager and lives in Elm Grove with his wife Jane.

DESCRIPTION:Silver Foxxx is a Milwaukee Rock & Roll Band consisting of:\nKyle Ciske – Drums \nAlex Bentley – Bass Guitar\nMark Jasso – Vocals/Guitar\nChris Weber – Keyboard\nPat Zimmer – Lead Guitar \nThe show will also celebrate the birthday of Silver Foxxx drummer Kyle Ciske! \nThe Carolinas were formed in Milwaukee in 1993 by singer-songwriter Dan Patscot and quickly became regional Americana favorites. Dan’s from-the-heart songs are brought to life by the innate chemistry of the band\, which can deliver a lovely two-step twang or Crazy Horse-like thunder as the song demands. \nCamp Sugar‘s sound is a collection of well-crafted poppy dream funk that reflects heart & soul from the lead singer’s past and his rumination of the future. Noah Sugarman\, founding member and songwriter\, released his debut album\, “Art Of Starting A Fire”\, on the Unison Music label in 2009. The talented\, multi-instrumentalist\, has toured the country coast-to-coast\, with an array of bands. In 2007\, Sugarman signed with Unison Music of Los Angeles.

DESCRIPTION:Armchair Boogie formed in the heart of Wisconsin in 2014 as a banjo and guitar duo. After playing a handful of shows\, Augie Dougherty (banjo) and Ben Majeska (guitar) recruited a well versed rhythm section to hold down the upbeat tempos and provide an extra oomph that’ll bring even the saddest uncle to a dance floor. This happened in October 2015; and in the few short years since\, they’ve toured consistently around the midwest\, played with top notch artists such as Jeff Austin Band and Horseshoes & Hand Grenades\, and played venues as big as The Majestic Theater in Madison. The sound has a newgrass feel that’s not afraid to delve into realms like funk or country. Keep an eye out for the first full length Armchair Boogie album being released 2017\, and don’t miss them on the road year round! \nJoining the bill is Cullah & the Comrades\, open-source and royalty-free music from Milwaukee!

DESCRIPTION:It was in 1957 that The Esquires musical group was formed in Milwaukee. Today the Moorer family is again generating the energy and excitement of the Original Esquires. Johnny Moorer is the leading member of the group performing out today. Their debut record for Bunky/Scepter was “Get on Up”\, (1967) which became a major hit in the United States\, peaking at #11 as a pop single but reaching #3 on the R&B charts. Following the release they played Chicago’s Regal Theater and the Apollo Theatre in New York City. Further singles were also successes\, and the group released one full-length LP. After five singles on Bunky the group signed a deal with Scepter themselves late in 1968. They later returned to Bunky and then\, in 1970\, signed with Capitol Records for one single (“Reach Out”) and Lamarr Records in 1971 for “Girls in the City”. They are a beloved and well known group originally helped formed by Harvey Scales\, and now consist of Rudy Jacobs of The Seven Sounds\, and Johnny Moorer\, the son\, who continues the musical legacy. \nWith special guests Buster “P”\, Tammy Moorer and Valerie B With V-Funk
