SUMMARY:September 14\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:Band of Dust is an indie-rock band based out of Milwaukee\, WI. Their sound evokes both rustic afternoons and urban nights where suspenseful storytelling and anxious confessions intersect. It’s a sound that’s both contemporary and classic\, infused with the raw energy that can be found in artists like Wilco\, The Hold Steady\, Built to Spill\, and the late George Harrison. \nThe band’s debut album Whispers Are Roars is set to be released on CD and digital download on May 19th\, 2017. All songs were written by Dustin Mayer with Ron Baake\, Ben Green\, Dan Mayer\, and Jesse Tapola filling out the lineup. Written and recorded in a period of personal loss for Mayer and Baake\, the album’s themes illustrate the conflicting emotions that come in times of great change. Following the death of his father\, Mayer briefly lived in his old rural childhood home\, where many of the album’s songs and the overall artistic vision took shape. \nUniversally\, Whispers Are Roars is a call to creativity and strength\, offering a guaranteed connection to anyone who has found themselves taking that conscious step to moving on\, and more importantly… moving forward. \nDoors at 8pm. Order of appearance: \nBandoleer Bacall @9 \nBand Of Dust (E.P. Release) @10 \nFaux Fiction @11 \nThe New Grey @12

DESCRIPTION:Signal Daddy started in April of 2012 as Matt reconnected with Dave and together with Richard\, began to work on what was dubbed “the music project.” Mike would join the group almost immediately and the core members were formed. \nThe final piece were added in late 2015 with the addition of Carson Wolfmeyer on percussion. “We have all spent years playing other’s songs\, and wanted to create our own original blend of music. Since getting together\, we have been writing\, playing\, and recording our original tunes\, and have loved the process.” [Richard]. \nBrothers Mike McGinnis (lead guitar) and Matt McGinnis (lead vocals\, keyboards\, guitar) front the band. Mike’s unique guitar tone was developed over his many years as a professional lead guitarist in bands throughout the Midwest. (Bradley Fish Electric\, The May Band) He brings blues based influences but with the flair of a Gary Moore\, Stevie Ray\, or David Gilmour. \nMatt is a professionally trained actor\, who along with being the lead vocalist\, has also written most of the melodies and lyrics for the songs. His social activism finds its way into many of the compositions\, which defines the songs as much as the sound. \nThe backbone of the band is held by Dave Maurer (bass)\, Carson Wolfmeyer (drums) and Richard Chase (guitar\, mandolin). This group brings significant experience to Signal Daddy\, having played in bands numerous bands in the Milwaukee area music scene. \n\n\n\nMilwaukee rockers Rocket Cat\, and Dear Karma open.

DESCRIPTION:It was in 1957 that The Esquires musical group was formed in Milwaukee. Today the Moorer family is again generating the energy and excitement of the Original Esquires. Johnny Moorer is the leading member of the group performing out today. Their debut record for Bunky/Scepter was “Get on Up”\, (1967) which became a major hit in the United States\, peaking at #11 as a pop single but reaching #3 on the R&B charts. Following the release they played Chicago’s Regal Theater and the Apollo Theatre in New York City. Further singles were also successes\, and the group released one full-length LP. After five singles on Bunky the group signed a deal with Scepter themselves late in 1968. They later returned to Bunky and then\, in 1970\, signed with Capitol Records for one single (“Reach Out”) and Lamarr Records in 1971 for “Girls in the City”. They are a beloved and well known group originally helped formed by Harvey Scales\, and now consist of Rudy Jacobs of The Seven Sounds\, and Johnny Moorer\, the son\, who continues the musical legacy. \nWith special guests Robert Burks & the HTB. \nAdmission for the show is $15 or two for $25! DESCRIPTION:Jane and Brian Spencer of F I N K E L seem to arrive from the near future\, or perhaps somewhere out there\, appearing with a slight shimmer of a dimension adjacent to our own. With an atmosphere treading the periphery of pop\, the duo’s tangible vocal presence overlays hypnotic electro pulsations in a combination that teases out details of last night’s otherworldly dreams and tempts the waking state to return to its astral analog. \nNot quite definable by conventional genres\, their avant-garde sensibilities will appeal to an audience seeking a respite from the pedestrian daily grind and typical expectations. There’s an enchanting quality that pervades the work of this singing and songwriting combo. Their lyrics explore themes of love and desire; understanding oneself and one another beyond surface qualities; and questioning the status quo. With every track\, they’re suggesting we take another\, closer look\, because what we think we see and hear just might deserve inspection. \nAlso joining the bill is Milwaukee’s soulful Cullah & the Comrades\, and Oshkosh’s Horace Greene.

DESCRIPTION:Milwaukee blues rockers The Young Revelators  display “bluesy vocals fuse(d) with crunchy guitar riffs\, jam-y bass lines mingle with subtle touches of psychedelia\, and down-in-the-groove rhythms carry lyrics about tough times and hard living” says web postal Milwaukee Record. “Singer-guitarist Alejandro Martinez bursts forth from a creeping\, White Stripes-esque guitar intro as drummer-brother Frankie Martinez and bassist Benjamin Michalski lay down a swampy\, whiskey-soaked foundation.” \nSleepy Gaucho\, an experimental folk project that sprinkles songs with soothing and eclectic soundscapes\, draws a large influence in roots music and songwriting while also exploring the freedom of the studio\, and Chicago’s Thompson Springs\, and open the evening!

DESCRIPTION:Conan Neutron is a guy\, Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends is a band. It is a band featuring Dale Crover of the mighty Melvins on drums\, Tony Ash of Trophy Wives\, Dead Halos and Coliseum on bass and the production skills of the iconoclastic and enigmatic Toshi Kasai. The Secret Friends bring forth a wiry and adventurous rock ‘n roll that is equal parts Cheap Trick\, QOTSA\, fugazi\, the Cars\, Black Sabbath and DEVO with perhaps Mean Streets era Van Halen mixed in. Big rock\, heavy\, hooky\, a little strange. You get it. Neutron\, a rock ‘n roll lifer has spent the last 18 years making records and touring in such bands as Replicator\, Victory and Associates and Mount Vicious\, making uncompromising\, sometimes challenging and daring rock music to anybody that is interested. The latest record is the Art of Murder. An 11 song album about Hannibal Lecter and the world around him. The first one is called the Enemy of Everyone. You can definitely buy them both\, and you probably should do so. There will be some records\, some shows\, and with any luck much\, much more to come. Watch us. \nAdding support to the bill are Milwaukee’s Hot Coffin\, and Oshkosh’s Haunted Heads.

DESCRIPTION:Bill Camplin is a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist who began playing professionally in the Milwaukee Area in the late 1960’s. Bill writes and arranges his own material and has produced a considerable body of work. Bill was an integral part of the Milwaukee acoustic folk scene for many years and appeared regularly at various clubs including the Blue River Café\, Numero Unos\, The Crystal Palace\, The Avante Garde and the 19th Street Coffee House. \nBand Members\nJASON KLAGSTAD – Guitars\, backing vocals – Jason is considered one of the top live and studio musicians in the Milwaukee area and has been playing professionally for over 45 years. \nHe has been a member of several area and nationally known bands\, including stints with Howie Epstein (Tom Petty)\, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)\, Arroyo\, Color Radio\, Warner Bros. recording artist\, Semi-Twang\, Bill Camplin (since 1974) and the local rock band favorite\, Plumb Loco. His distinctive guitar playing style has been featured on many recordings. With Peter Buffet for example\, he recorded film\, tv and recording projects\, appearing on 3 Buffett albums and the soundtrack for the Kevin Costner television special\, 500 Nations. During his performing/recording career\, Jason also ran several area music stores\, including his own – Big Music\, a specialty music instrument store\, until the mid1990’s. \nBOB ‘HOT DOG’ MUELLER – drums\, stoicism – Forty-plus years on the SE Wisconsin music scene. The driving force behind a range of bands spanning Bill Camplin’s Woodbine to virtually every A-list blues combo (Short Stuff\, Billy Flynn\, Raw Rockers\, Leroy Airmaster) and Camplin’s current ensemble. \nPAUL WEHRLEY – Bass guitar – Although Paul played trombone in marching band while in high school\, he did not envision trombone as his musical nexus. A couple of friends needed a bass player and Paul\, always the organizer\, agreed. From 1974 – 1982 Paul co-founded and played with both RIO and Arroyo\, two of the region’s seminal Country Rock bands. His early immersion in that genre provided a deep connection with Bill Camplin’s material. \nAfter his four year stint with Arroyo he became one of region’s top studio engineers\, typically working out of Waukesha’s Breezeway studios producing albums for many regional and national Artists. During this time he also played for many years with local cover rock band\, Plumb Loco. Today\, Paul is a property manager and lives in Elm Grove with his wife Jane.

DESCRIPTION:A true chance to catch a rising star\, Hudson Valley based Dylan Doyle has been putting on spellbinding performances nationally as well as internationally. Southern bred\, northern raised\, his trio’s style of music lies somewhere between roots rock and jam funk. It evokes Woodstock but also dips into southern soul. It’s a uniquely American sound Doyle calls “a big melting pot.” After sharing the stage with the young musician in Memphis a few years back\, Ben Cauley\, sole survivor of the Otis Redding plane crash and Co-founder of the Bar-Kays likened Dylan to a young Jimi Hendrix. When asked about the young talent coming up in the Hudson Valley\, Van Morrison guitarist John Platania stated “Dylan Doyle is the future.” Bill Payne of Little Feat described Dylan’s play as “Imaginative and original.” After a performance at the Chicago House of Blues the young musician was informed by a representative of Hollywood Records the Disney owned company is interested and will be tracking his development. After a recent performance at the iconic Levon Helm Studios\, Dylan was approached by James Dolan\, President of Madison Square Garden\, and was solicited to perform at future Garden events. Truly a young man with a bright future\, this is a chance to say\, “I say him when…”
