SUMMARY:December 1\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:“Wurk is a funk-fusion group from Madison\, WI\, described by Isthmus Magazine as “summer-jam-perfect”. Wurk’s style encompasses several genres\, with clear influences from bands like Snarky Puppy\, Thundercat\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Tauk\, The Motet\, Herbie Hancock\, Weather Report\, The Meters\, and many more. Their sound seeks to employ a musically educated yet groovy “Big City” tone. With songwriting by guitarist/vocalist\, Frank Laufenberg\, Wurk fills the gap between complexity and groove. Max Morkri\, a 2018 MAMA award nominee for Instrumentalist of the Year on drum set\, drives the band with his blend of solid grooving and intricate chops. Coupled with Max’s drumming\, Casey Seymour delivers powerful bass lines which pull the band together. Ryley Buchanan (synth/organ)\, Daniel Haschke (saxophone/flute) and Carl Hipenbecker (trumpet) add to Wurk’s complexity with horn lines\, effects\, and impressive solos. Most of Wurk’s members grew up in Mount Horeb\, Wisconsin\, just west of Madison. Their shared background creates the band’s closeness on stage and their ability to communicate musically. Wurk released two EPs in 2017 (Wurk\, Broken Disco); their third EP\, The Devil’s Wurk\, released in September of 2018.”

DESCRIPTION:Beaumont James & The Wild Claims are a loud country-type band using a few swear words to advance their cause. They’re Milwaukee-based. \n\n\nS.S. Web hails from the booze-soaked\, frozen tundra of Milwaukee\, Wisconsin\,  They fuse elements of Folk\, Punk\, Americana\, Rock\, and Country into a style all their own. \nFor the better part of 7 years S.S. Web has been plying their trade\, honing their skills as musicians and songwriters. They self released their debut album\, “North”\, in 2011 and released it’s follow up\, “1933”\, in 2013 through Wayward Parade Records. The following two releases\, both in 2014\, included their third full-length album\, “Skulls Will Sink”\, and a self-titled split 7″ vinyl with Ando Ehlers. \nTaking to the road like marauding pirates take to the sea S.S. Web has played countless shows from coast to coast\, bringing the party and a glorious racket wherever they go\, making new fans and friends at every stop. \nThe tides may change\, but the ship will always sail…

DESCRIPTION:It was in 1957 that The Esquires musical group was formed in Milwaukee. Today the Moorer family is again generating the energy and excitement of the Original Esquires. Johnny Moorer is the leading member of the group performing out today. Their debut record for Bunky/Scepter was “Get on Up”\, (1967) which became a major hit in the United States\, peaking at #11 as a pop single but reaching #3 on the R&B charts. Following the release they played Chicago’s Regal Theater and the Apollo Theatre in New York City. Further singles were also successes\, and the group released one full-length LP. After five singles on Bunky the group signed a deal with Scepter themselves late in 1968. They later returned to Bunky and then\, in 1970\, signed with Capitol Records for one single (“Reach Out”) and Lamarr Records in 1971 for “Girls in the City”. They are a beloved and well known group originally helped formed by Harvey Scales\, and now consist of Rudy Jacobs of The Seven Sounds\, and Johnny Moorer\, the son\, who continues the musical legacy. \nJoining the bill will be VINCENT CHAMBERS & THE VINSANITY BAND\, TIM & APRIL BELL\, DEE BURKS\, TAMMY MOORE\, & HOST TONY WHITEHEAD!

DESCRIPTION:Doors at 8:00pm\, show at 9pm. \n“heavenly harmonies on top of furious fingerpicking” \nFounded over 14 years ago with the simple desire to play original and powerful bluegrass\, this quartet now finds themselves at the intersection of performance\, diplomacy and education. The Henhouse Prowlers have now been to more than 25 countries across the globe. Working with the U.S. State Department and under their own nonprofit\, Bluegrass Ambassadors\, the band incorporates music from\, Asia\, the Middle East and more into their already robust repertoire of unique traditional American music. When performing live\, presenting workshops and wherever they are\, the Henhouse Prowlers find and spread the commonality we share as human beings through the universal language of music. You can feel it at every show. On stage\, the group’s electrifying performances give audiences a sense of how much they love what they do; while on record\, the band manages to explore their collective life experiences through songwriting and intricate instrumentation. While bluegrass is the undeniable foundation of the Prowlers music\, the band manages to bend and squeeze the traditional form into a sound all their own.

DESCRIPTION:Sleepersound is cinematic indie post rock incorporating influences from experimental electronic music\, 20th-century classical music\, soul\, krautrock\, and jazz. Fundamental to the band is the authentic and untouched aspect of performance: what you hear on a Sleepersound track is a live performance. Layers of simple texture revealed through tactical demonstration. Sometimes serene and chiming\, other times thunderous or melancholy. Manipulated through action and reaction as an organic act of composition. What began as Sleeper\, born from multi-instrumentalist and vocalist David D’Antonio\, was initially a lower-key\, solo acoustic/electronic project. A geographic move spurred new collaborations that resulted in the new aural fireworks and the formation of Sleepersound. \nNot a straight ahead rock band\, nor folk\, jazz\, ambient or electronic\, Sleepersound encompasses all of these to create an expansive musical palette brought to life by D’Antonio alongside an exclusive cast\, each experienced musical collaborators in their own right. \nOpening will be Haunter & HiYAN

DESCRIPTION:Armchair Boogie formed in the heart of Wisconsin in 2014 as a bluegrass duo featuring Augie Dougherty (banjo) and Ben Majeska (guitar). After a handful of shows\, they recruited a well versed rhythm section (bassist Eli Frieders and drummer Denzel Connor) to hold down the upbeat tempos and provide an extra oomph that’ll bring even the saddest uncle to the dance floor. Since then\, they’ve toured consistently around the country playing alongside top notch acts at venerable venues and festivals like Summer Camp Music Festival and Boats & Bluegrass. The sound has a newgrass feel that’s not afraid to delve into the realms of funk or country. Keep an eye out for Armchair Boogie’s debut album set to be released spring 2018\, and don’t miss them on the road year round! \nKind music for kind people. Kind Country is a Jamgrass band playing American standards as well as their own brand of Cosmic American music. Since their formation in 2012\, the band has focused creating live performances with high levels of improvisation and energy gathering with a goal of creating a moment of musical bliss that can be shared by audience members and band alike.

DESCRIPTION:Tyne Darling is a Milwaukee\, WI-based musician. Sometimes\, though\, he lives in Brooklyn. He has some black-ink tattoos on both of his arms. His music works to conjure elements of both Raymond Carver and Greg Dulli. He’s toured throughout the U.S.\, Europe\, and Canada\, played festivals such as SXSW\, Wakarusa\, and CMJ\, and supported the likes of Richard Buckner\, Charlie Mars\, Dale Watson\, and The Bottlerockets. In 2016\, Tyne Darling will release a new LP entitled\, These Ghosts. Occasionally\, Tyne Darling publishes stories under the name Tom Vollman. He really likes Kurt Vonnegut\, Two Cow Garage\, Tillie Olsen\, Joan Didion\, Tom Colicchio\, Willy Vlautin\, and Albert Camus. \nFor the last 16 years Micah Schnabel has toured the world as one of the main songwriters for the critically acclaimed Columbus\, Ohio based band Two Cow Garage. Micah Schnabel is a beat poet who uses a guitar instead of a typewriter. Schnabel doesn’t just wear his heart on his sleeve. No\, Schnabel put his heart right in front for all to see as a bright red tattoo on his throat. When not touring the world with Two Cow Garage\, Schnabel has been quietly releasing and touring with his solo material over the last 8 years. The lyrical focus and emotional range of Schnabel’s solo work has allowed him to tour with artists ranging all the way from Frank Turner\, Lucero\, and Beach Slang.\n\nVanessa Jean Speckman will open.

DESCRIPTION:The Flood Brothers Band play that further than folk thing and leave the frontage road with a tasty blend of electric tunes as well. With Sea Level style piano and vocals right out of the seventies this group is writing songs like that era is still alive and well. \nLoosely translated\, Bella Brutto means “beautiful ugly”. You already know what that means: the pleasing snarl of distorted guitar\, the chest-thumping wump of room-shaking bass\, the thunderous thrill of pounding drums\, the burn of good tequila\, the intoxicating aroma of gasoline… \nYou get the picture. Like the yin and the yang\, beauty needs counterpoint to move the soul\, spark the emotions. This is what lies at the heart of the Bella Brutto quest and experience: beauty with bite. \nBella is a four-piece rock/variety\, original/cover band\, consisting of Milwaukee music veterans Tom Plutshack (Tritonics\, the Spiders from Milwaukee\, Edgar Allen Cash\, the Falcons\, the Lost Pioneers\, C-Food Buffet [and many others\, see bio]) on guitar; Jared Drake (the Northliners\, Mistic Krewe\, the Lost Pioneers\, Bean Hoy) on bass; Bob Mueller (Bean Hoy\, the Lost Pioneers\, Wrecking Yard) on drums\, and Twila Jean (TJ and the Blue Roots\, chansons du trio Twila Jean) on guitar\, keys\, and accordion. Vocal duties are traded and shared. \n

DESCRIPTION:Reality Something is Elena Franklin\, Kingsley Brock\, Ethan Place\, and Bill Grasley. The usual story is\, they are an alternative rock band from Nashville\, TN that you will probably like because they are very good. \nHere is the more interesting story. \nImagine that all your life\, you’ve done one thing. It doesn’t matter what it is – actor\, singer\, juggler\, whatever – but you’ve been doing it all your life and you think you like it\, but you have this creeping suspicion that maybe you just don’t know any different. And then one day\, when you’re 23\, you suddenly decide you’re gonna stop\, cold turkey\, and move across the country to a new city – let’s say\, Nashville\, TN – where you know a literal handful of people but they’re always on tour and you’re always at home. And suddenly not only are you alone (surrounded by a lot of guitars)\, but really\, your whole identity is gone and you have to start all over. \nThat’s Reality Something\, and that’s Life Noise. \nDaydream Retrievers is a new project by former The Sleepwalkers frontman Ian Olvera. It has electric guitars\, keyboards\, and is not gluten free. Please consult your doctor before consuming. \nAko is a two-piece Milwaukee Band whose first album\, And You\, was released in November of 2016. We like dogs and to listen to good music and dogs.  Ako is Gabby Powell and Mark Soriano. Our other interests include rotating our third member to keep people in suspense.

DESCRIPTION:Band of Dust is an indie-rock band based out of Milwaukee\, WI. Their sound evokes both rustic afternoons and urban nights where suspenseful storytelling and anxious confessions intersect. It’s a sound that’s both contemporary and classic\, infused with the raw energy that can be found in artists like Wilco\, The Hold Steady\, Built to Spill\, and the late George Harrison. \nThe band’s debut album Whispers Are Roars is set to be released on CD and digital download on May 19th\, 2017. All songs were written by Dustin Mayer with Ron Baake\, Ben Green\, Dan Mayer\, and Jesse Tapola filling out the lineup. Written and recorded in a period of personal loss for Mayer and Baake\, the album’s themes illustrate the conflicting emotions that come in times of great change. Following the death of his father\, Mayer briefly lived in his old rural childhood home\, where many of the album’s songs and the overall artistic vision took shape. \nUniversally\, Whispers Are Roars is a call to creativity and strength\, offering a guaranteed connection to anyone who has found themselves taking that conscious step to moving on\, and more importantly… moving forward. \nDoors at 8pm.
