SUMMARY:August 18\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:Chamber rock duo Mystery Loves Company formed in Houston TX in 2012. The unlikely pair is comprised of Maddy\, a conservatory-trained cellist with a highly technical musical background\, and Carlos\, a self-taught songwriter from Venezuela whose family moved to the U.S. after his father evaded multiple gun shots during a carjacking. \nThey met at an open mic where Carlos was testing out new material. Maddy was performing with a friend as a lark\, but her virtuosic ability on the cello was not lost on Carlos. He engaged her at once with the proposition of collaborating on original music. Almost immediately\, the two struck upon a mystifying sound\, rich with natural acoustics and laced with deeply felt sentiments regarding human struggle\, safety\, worth and equality. Their captivating songs found a receptive audience in those who resonated with the timely themes of culture\, immigration\, science\, and theology and they began performing regularly around Houston\, eventually touring all over Texas and the Midwest. \nMaddy and Carlos are back in Milwaukee for their yearly performance (AKA Herde-Fest 2019)\, and this time Alauna and Danny are joining them! You surely do not want to miss this. We will see you at Linneman’s 🙂 \n$12\n21+ or w/ adult

SUMMARY:August 16\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:Ravi/Lola is a 60’s inspired psychedelic baroque/neo-toytown pop group from Milwaukee\, WI. Ravi/Lola began as a home recording project in 2008 by Casey Seymour with collaborators James Green and Nick Wieczorkowski. 2 albums (Ravi/Lola\, II: Ravi’s Tramadol) have been released from the home recording era. \nIn 2015\, the band evolved into a live group consisting of Casey Seymour\, Nick Wieczorkowski\, Robert Thomas\, and Anton Sieger. On June 2nd\, 2017\, the first album consisting of the live group\, “Shape Up Shoulders\,” will be released via CD\, bandcamp\, and all major streaming services. \nThe will be Ravi/Lola’s Neighborhood Daydream Album Release Show!! \nJoining the bill this night will be Wavy V\, and The Old Northwest. \nDoors at 8PM\, show at 9PM\, $8 cover. \nRAVI/LOLA PRESENTS NEIGHBORHOOD DAYDREAM\nA CD/TAPE RELEASE – via Midwest Action\nFEATURING SPECIAL GUESTS – Wavy V\, The Old Northwest \nABOUT THE ALBUM: \nIt is not possible to relay another’s experience of neighborhood due to the inconceivable chance they are identical. However\, we can find commonality by approaching the concept in general as a place with expectation\, boundary\, and relationship. Ravi/Lola brings you to a neighborhood filled with just that\, using both the real and imagined\, the described and anecdotal\, to create another whimsical world of wonder for each listener to travel to. This album is only audio but it’s also an invitation to stop by\, to visit\, and get to know. Look out for the pinstripers\, say hi to Mike the Mailman\, get a history lesson\, or take a school picture while confronting the duality in us all. \n

DESCRIPTION:Sam Llanas is an iconic American singer\, acoustic guitarist\, and songwriter. Best known\nfor his unique and distinctively soulful voice\, Llanas burst onto the national music scene\nin 1986 as part of The Bodeans. Their debut album Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams\, which\nwas produced by T Bone Burnett\, became one of the most critically acclaimed records of\nthat year. His voice was the cornerstone of their sound and was the heart of their tight\nharmonies.\nAfter 25 years of a storied career with the band\, including being a part of U2’s\ncelebrated Joshua Tree tour\, singing on Robbie Robertson’s “Somewhere Down the\nCrazy River\,” being voted best new band by the readers of Rolling Stone Magazine\, and\nsharing the stage with such luminaries as David Bowie\, Paul Simon\, Bob Dylan\, and Tom\nPetty it was time for a change.\nAfter leaving in 2011\, Llanas released 4 A.M.\, a stripped down\, quietly introspective\noffering that reflected the mood of the title. Once again critics were taken with the\nhaunting quality of his singing and his ability to construct concise songs with lovely\nmelodies that manage to say a lot with a few simple basic chords and a minimum of\nstraightforward words.\nIn 2014 came The Whole Night Thru\, the third installment (he released his first solo\nalbum\, A Good Day to Die in ‘97) of what Llanas calls his night music. While retaining a\nmostly darker tone\, “TWNT” also contained elements of his former bands most loved\nsongs (it was Llanas after all who wrote his former bands biggest hit “Closer To Free”).\nIn early 2018\, Llanas released Return of the Goya – Part 1. The title refers to his beloved\nguitar that was stolen in 1987. “ROTG”marks his emergence back into the light with 11\nsongs that harken back to his deepest roots. Most of the songs showcase his long love of\nclassic country music (his earliest musical memory is hearing and being mesmerized by\nHank Williams). These songs are a loving tribute to a style of music witnessing simple\nsongs with strong melodies and harmonies telling stories that resonate in the heart.\nLongtime fans will be reminded of 2 of his most beloved songs (“Looking for me\nSomewhere” from 1986 and “I’m in Trouble Again” from ‘87). “ROTG” is proof that after\nmore than 30 years\, Llanas is at the top of his formidable game.\nFor more information visit www.samllanas.com. \nLong Ladder Home will open the show. \nDoors @ 7pm\, opener begins @ 8pm!

DESCRIPTION:Warrior Songs Inc. is a non-profit organization which brings hope and healing to veterans through music and the creative arts. Through a variety of programs\, Warrior Songs uses the arts to assist veterans and civilians to better understand the war experience. \nOur mission is to transform buried experiences and feelings into art that entertains as it educates\, motivates\, and inspires. We believe that helping those who have experienced war to express their struggles deepen their self-awareness and leads to a more purposeful existence. \nProcessing chaos into stories and setting these stories to music\, or expressing them through other media\, fosters communication and helps bridge the gap that often exists between veterans and their loved ones\, and between civilians and veterans. Since war is destructive by its nature\, over time it may diminish the natural human instinct to create and even interfere with the ability to experience hope and joy. Helping veterans to turn the destructive force of war into something meaningful and beautiful allows them to reclaim hope and joy as important forces in their lives.

DESCRIPTION:Upon discovering the human world after eating some bad magic mushrooms from Old Man Willow’s private stash\, 4 curious fuzzy water-dwelling forest creatures decide to leave their own world behind and start a band. Fuzzysurf is all about the journey\, with the ultimate goal of creating memorable\, richly melodic songs while pushing boundaries and paying homage to those who’ve treaded before us. We want to explore\, experiment\, write\, and create music and art in as many styles and genres as possible.\n\nFlat Teeth – Drawing on the more melodic side of 90s indie rock and emo\, the band’s music recalls the sounds of everyone from The Get Up Kids and Mock Orange to darker and moodier acts like No Knife and Cursive. Interlocking guitars\, layered vocal harmonies and driving rhythms are all present in the band’s output. Those seeking straightforward and energetic songwriting will find much to enjoy in Flat Teeth.\n\nCashfire Sunset – Milwaukees loudest pop band.
