SUMMARY:March 5\, 2020
DESCRIPTION:The Tritonics are Jeff Stehr\, Dave Bolyard\, Glenn Asch\, Kyle Seifert\, Mike Lizzo and Peter Roller. They write\, arrange and perform original music written in the Jamaican roots styles of rock steady\, ska and reggae. They also cover crucial standards of those genres by artists like Alton Ellis\, Delroy Wilson\, Toots and the Maytalls\, The Heptones\, Johnny Clarke\, The Valentines and The Jamaicans. In addition\, The Tritonics apply a unique process they’ve dubbed “doowopification” to rock n roll classics by The Beatles\, The Rolling Stones\, The Kinks and many others. Doowopification reinterprets and revitalizes (Ital-izes!) classic rock standards\, anointing them in the name of Jah with stripped down\, Jamaican roots-style arrangements\, one drop-centered rhythm and harmony-heavy vocals. \nThe Tritonics are committed to keeping the citizenry drinking\, dancing and well informed through song. \nDan Schwartz is a Minneapolis musician who makes soulful music on the harp guitar and lap steel.

DESCRIPTION:Joy Funk outfit CBDB and eclectic jam rock group Kendall Street Company bring their Winter Tour to Milwaukee’s Linneman’s Riverwest Inn on March 3rd! \nDoors: 8:00; Show: 9:00; 21+ \nAdvance Ticket link:  https://www.ticketweb.com/event/cbdb-kendall-street-company-linnemans-riverwest-inn-tickets/10090555?fbclid=IwAR3kKBACwTGeRPYmuK7IpGnYCe464dB6MmW496Yym1P8cH-E4eeTBx1-GWA \nAbout the bands: \nKendall Street Company\nFrom late night jam sessions at the University of Virginia to main stages at venues and festivals throughout the country\, Kendall Street Company has broken the mold of improvised rock and enters a world of jazz-grass infused psychedelic bliss. With no two shows ever the same\, word of mouth has quickly grown a ravenous fanbase eager to hear their favorite studio tracks explored and extended as part of a live community. As seasoned KSC fans can tell you\, any one of their songs could easily turn from a fun sing-along\, into a cacophonous headbanging garage-rock soundscape\, to a Klezmer-disco dance party\, and then resolve into a peaceful ambient meditation that evokes nostalgia of your childhood. \nAveraging over 100 shows per year since 2013\, the band is currently comprised of Louis Smith [Acoustic guitar\, vocals]\, Brian Roy [Bass\, vocals]\, Ryan Wood [Drums]\, Ben Laderberg [Electric guitar]\, and Jake Vanaman [Saxophone]. For such a young band\, their accomplishments are sincere. Kendall Street has performed at festivals such as Lockn’\, Roosterwalk\, Floydfest\, Resonance\, and Domefest and has opened for acts such as Papadosio\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Tauk\, and Leftover Salmon. All the while\, the band has proudly released three records and two EPs. Their most recent 2019 release\, “Lunar Dude” showcases their versatility and virtuosity\, and was met with overwhelming support. \n2020 is building up to be the biggest year yet for the band. Along with two (or perhaps three) new records on the horizon\, their upcoming Winter/Spring tour will take them all across the country in Woody Guthrie fashion. From Louisiana to Texas\, Colorado to Wisconsin\, Ohio to Boston\, New York City and more\, the band has no intent of slowing down any time soon. See you on the road! \nRELEASE HISTORY:\nLunar Dude – EP [2019]\nRemoteVision – Double LP [2018]\nSpace for Days – LP [2017]\nEarth Turns – LP [2016]\nKendall Street Company – EP [2014]

DESCRIPTION:It was in 1957 that The Esquires musical group was formed in Milwaukee. Today the Moorer family is again generating the energy and excitement of the Original Esquires. Johnny Moorer is the leading member of the group performing out today. Their debut record for Bunky/Scepter was “Get on Up”\, (1967) which became a major hit in the United States\, peaking at #11 as a pop single but reaching #3 on the R&B charts. Following the release they played Chicago’s Regal Theater and the Apollo Theatre in New York City. Further singles were also successes\, and the group released one full-length LP. After five singles on Bunky the group signed a deal with Scepter themselves late in 1968. They later returned to Bunky and then\, in 1970\, signed with Capitol Records for one single (“Reach Out”) and Lamarr Records in 1971 for “Girls in the City”. They are a beloved and well known group originally helped formed by Harvey Scales\, and now consist of Rudy Jacobs of The Seven Sounds\, and Johnny Moorer\, the son\, who continues the musical legacy. \nAlso on the bill are Chicago Blues Legend Shorty Mack\, and Milwaukee’s Willie Morrison! \nThe Esquires will be inducted into the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Hall of Fame in April!! \nAdmission for the show is $15 or two for $25! Doors at 7:00pm\, show at 8:00!

DESCRIPTION:“Wurk is a funk-fusion group from Madison\, WI\, described by Isthmus Magazine as “summer-jam-perfect”. Wurk’s style encompasses several genres\, with clear influences from bands like Snarky Puppy\, Thundercat\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Tauk\, The Motet\, Herbie Hancock\, Weather Report\, The Meters\, and many more. Their sound seeks to employ a musically educated yet groovy “Big City” tone. With songwriting by guitarist/vocalist\, Frank Laufenberg\, Wurk fills the gap between complexity and groove. Max Morkri\, a 2018 MAMA award nominee for Instrumentalist of the Year on drum set\, drives the band with his blend of solid grooving and intricate chops. Coupled with Max’s drumming\, Casey Seymour delivers powerful bass lines which pull the band together. Ryley Buchanan (synth/organ)\, Daniel Haschke (saxophone/flute) and Carl Hipenbecker (trumpet) add to Wurk’s complexity with horn lines\, effects\, and impressive solos. Most of Wurk’s members grew up in Mount Horeb\, Wisconsin\, just west of Madison. Their shared background creates the band’s closeness on stage and their ability to communicate musically. Wurk released two EPs in 2017 (Wurk\, Broken Disco); their third EP\, The Devil’s Wurk\, released in September of 2018.” \nHoppers Luck 9-9:45 \nWurk 10-11:30 \nThe Peter Behlmer Experience 11:45-1am \nDoors at 8pm\, show at 9pm!

DESCRIPTION:The Rogue Electrics are an original rock band from Milwaukee heavily influenced by classic rock\, alternative\, and blues. A rock and roll rebellion for the misfits who don’t identify with modern computerized pop music. \nPurposefully striding through a field of 60’s soul and guitar-driven blues rock\, Horace Greene has set up camp in Oshkosh\, WI where they brew their own unique brand of alternative rock n’ roll. The 3-piece\, consisting of Tony Oakley (Vocals/Guitar)\, Sam Swetlik (Bass)\, and Mitch Washebek (Drums)\, is quickly picking up steam in the Fox Valley area and has plans to expand their sound to the Southern and West Coast of the US. \nThe rising Milwaukee indie rock outfit\, Band of Dust\, evokes rustic afternoons and urban nights with suspenseful storytelling and confessionals intersect. It’s a sound that’s both contemporary and classic\, informed by influential artists like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers\, The Replacements\, and Strand of Oaks. BOD’s debut album Whispers Are Roars and follow-up EP Songs For All Blood Types\, has led them on a midwestern excursion\, with singles like “Blue Flame” rocking the radio waves. Now\, the infectious infusions of guitar and organ continues on\, boasting an expanded sonic template within a new collection of songs that pack an emotionally powerful punch.

DESCRIPTION:Two Old-School Wisconsin Punk Bands Team Up to Raise Awareness and Funds for Planned Parenthood Advocates of WI and Memorialize Legendary Milwaukee Musician Richard LaValliere. \nMilwaukee’s “loud and dirty grrrl band” The Six Wives of Richard (6WOR) makes its triumphant return to the stage after a two-year hiatus—accompanied by the notorious Appleton-originated (in 1982) punk-pop quartet The Daves—to support Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI) and pay homage to Milwaukee’s late musical genius Richard LaValliere. \nLinnemann’s Riverwest Inn\, 1001 E. Locust St.\, 53212\, will host the loud ‘n’ proud band bash starting at 9pm. All proceeds from the $10 donation-admission go to PPAWI to help elect pro-women’s-health candidates in 2020. \nLaValliere\, who passed away just under seven years ago\, has close ties to Veechka Star (Vicki Just LaValliere) and Connie Mielke 6WOR’s drummer and bassist\, as well as having been a mentor to\, friend of and collaborator with The Daves’ bassist/backup-singer/songwriter Paul McComas (band name “Paul Velcro”). Yet\, says McComas\, “Richard’s influence—and that of perhaps his best band\, the Oil Tasters—can be heard\, seen and felt in countless bands and musicians\, both famous and not-so\, who came of age in the early- to mid-1980s—the glory years of Milwaukee punk-rock\, new wave\, revival-rockabilly and neopsychedelia.” \nAmong the bands storming Milwaukee at that time were Red Ball Jets\, The Curves\, The Prosecutors\, and The Hunted—members of which came together to form 6WOR. Veechka played in The Prosecutors (featuring Kevn Kinney of Drivin’ and Cryin’) as well as in The Curves with 6WOR bassist Connie\, who recorded and traveled with The Hunted (opening for Plasmatics’ Wendy O. Williams). Kari Lueneberg\, known as “Molli Putz” while co-fronting the wave-a-billy Red Ball Jets and other bands in the early ’80s\, is the guitarist for 6WOR and the bassist for Silk Torpedo\, Milwaukee’s noted ’70s proto-punk glam band (founded by original Exotics guitarist Doug Chasteen). \n6WOR haven’t performed publicly in nearly two years due to the injury and—thank Richard!—full recovery of one of their members. \nThe Daves—Milwaukee drummer Tim Buckingham\, Madison vocalist Kim Hah\, Minneapolis guitarist Chris Murray and transplanted (to Evanston\, IL) Milwaukee native McComas—periodically converge on Cream City to rehearse songs like their LaValliere-influenced “(You Killed My) Goldfish” in Buckingham Palace\, aka Tim’s home on North Murray Ave. “At our debut gig\, on Halloween 1982\,” McComas wistfully recalls\, “we held a slamdance contest. First prize was a dead pigeon in a plastic bag. Second prize was a Rush tape.” He and Buckingham comprised the rhythm section for Taste Oilers\, the Oil Tasters tribute band that honored LaValliere while raising funds and awareness for animal rescue (a Richard-beloved cause) at Milwaukee’s Shank Hall in 2013 and Otto’s Shrunken Head Tiki Bar & Lounge Manhattan in 2014. \nThe two-band mutual-admiration society will culminate\, says McComas\, in “a once-in-a-lifetime tag-team night of loud-fast-and-raucous\, yet also catchy and hella-danceable\, tunesmithery. Don’t miss this sh__!” \nShow at 9pm\, doors open at 8pm!

DESCRIPTION:Local\, original music in Riverwest is exactly what you will get on this special evening featuring alternating sets between the Jamaican roots-inspired sounds of The Tritonics and the clever\, contagious\, captivating songs of songwriter Francesca and her six string king sidekick (and Tritonic alumnus)\, Tom Plutshack. A school night / work night – friendly start time of 7:00pm makes it an easy decision. Six bucks. Join us! \nThe Tritonics are Jeff Stehr\, Dave Bolyard\, Glenn Asch\, Kyle Seifert\, Mike Lizzo and Peter Roller. \nFrancesca & Tom Plutshack are a Milwaukee acoustic duo. \nShow at 7pm\, doors open at 6:30pm.

DESCRIPTION:Silk Torpedo is a trashy glitter proto-punk rock & roll band featuring the work of 1970s artists such as T Rex\, Mott the Hoople\, David Bowie\, the Stooges\, Slade\, Sweet\, and others. \nBack when I was in the Dummy Club\, my friend Crazy John (rest his soul) said if I ever have my own band I should call it Fly & the Swatters. A couple of years later I formed a new band and gave it that name. Members were rotated among my friends who were available at the time and we mostly played Quarters and other Riverwest haunts. I went on to be in several bands including The Alewives and Immortal Plants. Then I talked my way into Dr. Chow’s Love Medicine which lasted over 18 years. With the departure of singer/songwriter Frank Chandek I was in the position to keep our garage rock attitude going. Chow’s drummer Dan Glaser and bassist Joe Polizzi agreed to stay on and we added our friend Jessica Erin to grace us with her sultry vocals. -Fly (Paul Lawson)
