SUMMARY:Violet Wilder w/ Sushi Cowboy\, & YaYa Biggs * July 27\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Once upon a time\, three music nerds became best friends in college and formed Violet Wilder – a genre-bending group that explores sounds of alternative indie\, rock & roll\, and folk. VW’s compositions incorporate piano\, viola\, acoustic & electric guitar\, miscellaneous percussion\, and (last but NOT least) sumptuous 3-part harmony. Sometimes they write unconventional melodies & harmonies\, and sometimes they take you on a sonic journey. Whatever happens\, they aim to keep you listening. \n \n\nYaYa Biggs is a funk and jazz band based in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. The band accidentally formed in 2016 when Jonathan Chacon invited coworkers Adam Labban and Michael Stearns to jam with him and his roommate Brendan Smith in their basement. Drawn in by the funk and rhythm\, a few strangers wandered into the basement\, mistaking the jam for a party \n \n\nSushi Cowboy is an energetic rock band hailing from Milwaukee\, WI. Their music blends elements of blues\, alternative\, indie\, folk\, and classic rock. The band consists of the following talented members: \n\nEvan Hummer: Keyboards\nDave Williams: Drums\nNoah Rueckl: Bass\, vocals\nJake Ringelstetter: Rhythm guitar\, vocals\nBrandon Messmer: Lead guitar\, vocals\n\n \n\nDoors @ 7pm\, Music @ 8pm-11:30pm\, $10 cover charge

SUMMARY:Lost Orange Cat w/ J.R. & the Strangers\, and Chris Haise Band * September 1\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Lost Orange Cat burst onto the Milwaukee music scene in 2018.  Musically featuring their original songs inspired by a broad variety of styles and genres.  They are always pushing the boundaries of their creativity to find new sounds that feel familiar.  The band’s live performance brings the force of a locomotive led by Josh Konkel’s power soul vocals backed by a Rock N’ Roll band disguised as a bluegrass band. The group is made of 4 total members that each bring a unique stylistic flare to give Lost Orange Cat their original sound. You’ll hear elements of classic rock\, outlaw country\, psychedelic blues\, and a hint of bluegrass to give you something you can only call\, Folk N’ Roll. \nMembers: Josh Konkel: Vocals/Guitar Geoff McDonald: Bass Joe Royten: Mandolin Kyle Ciske: Drums \n \n\n\n\n\n\nRolling through the heartland of Americana rust\, J.R. & The Strangers are on a roots rock mission to write songs and rattle stages. When Justin Jagler\, Ryan Neale\, Jake Stanzer and Lee Gray come together\, driving rhythms and dynamic guitars turn the pages of a neo-western book of revelations.  The project delivers a blend of roots rock\, outlaw folk\, Americana\, and neo-western psychedelia. \n\n\n \n\nThe Milwaukee based Chris Haise Band‘s (pronounced Hi-zee) music is a blend of hook filled ballads and toe tappers. Mixing Folk and Rock\, Haise’s vocals have been described as Dylan meets Springsteen meets Petty\, while his lyrics have been described as “smart new songwriting” and “Intense\, Thoughtful Songcraft”. \nIn 2017\, Chris Haise released his solo album entitled “Your Ugly Friends” which was nominated for 88Nine’s Music Awards for Album of the Year\, Independent Release of the Year\, and Solo Artist of the Year.  He was also selected as NSAI “One to Watch” along with winning Dylan Days Singer/Songwriter Contest. \n \nDoors at 7pm\, Music at 8pm\, $10 \n\n

SUMMARY:Hiking Journal w/ Luke McGovern * September 12\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hiking Journal is an experimental music duo from Milwaukee. The group channels sounds and thoughts from the natural world\, found media\, language\, folk and electronic music. \n \n\nLuke McGovern’s songs run the gamut\, at times carrying a country twang\, and other times following a more mystical sound inspired by the fantastic. He has been described as “If Townes Van Zandt were less cynical\, more sober\, and alive (Isthmus)\,” and works earnestly\, though with humor\, to craft his songs. The Madison singer/songwriter is largely self taught and self produced\, recording songs in closets\, bedrooms\, basements\, and garages. His new album Bestiary is a reflection on creatures- real and imaginary- and our relationship with them. \n \n\nAlso with singer songwriter elise texidor\, and mke folk punk band snowdate. \n\nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $10

SUMMARY:The Canvasmen w/ Pay the Devil\, & Jason Voorhees * September 13\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:The Canvasmen hail from Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. If Bob Newhart would have had a third major sitcom\, it would sound like this. \n \n\nABOUT PAY THE DEVIL\nForged in the middle of a cold Wisconsin winter\, Pay The Devil plays an eclectic mix of original\, bluegrass\, folk\, Irish\, Americana\, obscure\, and outlaw country tunes. \nTHE BEGINNING\nPay the Devil got together in the winter of 2011 and has been playing around the Milwaukee area ever since. Playing original tunes in a variety of styles alongside an assortment of bluegrass and old-time standards\, sea shanties\, folk\, Irish traditional\, and country music\, this five-piece made up of a guitar\, mandolin\, banjo\, upright bass\, and washboard (spoons and assorted other hillbilly percussive instruments) puts on a fun live show filled with foot-stomping\, thigh-slapping music\, and enough hollering to go around. Our favorite descriptions we have heard are “Shantygrass” and “Riotgrass”. \n\nJason Voorhees Plays Stride Piano.  Enjoy a special musical experience as Jason puts down his machete to tickle the ivories. \n\nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $10

SUMMARY:In the round - Sarah Morris\, Derek Pritzl\, & Kat Wodtke * September 14\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Please take note of revised lineup! \n\nSarah Morris has a habit of missing the forest. From the day the Minneapolis based singer-songwriter picked up a guitar\, armed with the bone-deep memory of her parents’ well-loved record collection and rooted in the storytelling fire of a Mary Chapin Carpenter tune\, she’s been too busy crafting love letters to the details of the trees. Sarah’s endearingly honest\, expertly penned songs encourage audiences to pull away from the big picture and get caught up in the magic of our everyday minutia\, the rainy day ache in her sunlit voice granting us permission to escape into stories at once hauntingly familiar and uniquely her own. \n \n\nOne minute Milwaukee Songmeister Derek Pritzl is leaning on the bar\, drinking a beer\, and telling you stories from his youth of factory shifts and midnight dirt bike rides through empty quarries. The next minute he steps on stage\, picks up a guitar\, and begins to sing. With a thousand-mile stare and a voice as gentle as it is fierce\, Derek’s music comes at you like a beautiful and sudden spring storm.  After seeing him play\, his songs\, words\, and layers of meaning continue to echo and churn like thunder in the distance. \n \n\nSongwriter Kat Wodtke stands front and center as the leader of prominent Milwaukee band Long Mama. Her music creations blister with the heart and grit of someone who has lost hard\, loved harder\, and licked her burns until they stung then silvered. In a drafty attic just west of the Milwaukee River she grew up on\, you’ll find Wodtke (Wood-key) raking through notebooks in search of a salve: words\, stories\, and sounds to temper the dumpster fires we never mean to light. Flickering behind each song is Wodtke’s lived insight into our human faults & fissures – the moments in life when we can slip and lose our footing\, or claw our way out…better people on the other side of the blaze. \n \nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $12

SUMMARY:Madame Reaper w/ SSAANN\, & Disposable Thumbs\, & Orange Drink * September 29\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:The brainchild of singer/songwriter Kira Leadholm\, Madame Reaper sets herself apart with angular synth-pop melodies\, hyper-produced arrangements\, and elaborate harmonies. Her unconventional lyrics and dominatrix persona offer a veiled critique of the way female performers are reduced to tropes\, and of gender power imbalances in the industry and in society. \nThroughout 2021 and 2022\, Kira wrote\, recorded\, and produced the demos for her self-titled debut record. After receiving a generous grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency\, she collaborated with her band and other local musicians to re-record the tracks at Chicago’s Treehouse Records Studio. Max Grazier is mixing and mastering the record\, which will be released in early 2023. \nMadame Reaper’s Gentlemen’s Club\, Kira’s nine-track debut record\, hovers at the nexus of ’80s synth-pop\, ’70s glam rock\, and classical music. Inspired by the early work of acts like New Order\, Depeche Mode\, and Kate Bush\, the record explores the possibilities of synths without sequencing and of blending electronic and acoustic soundscapes. Her theatrical vocals invoke the halcyon days of rock operas a la Queen or Sparks\, while many of her instrument parts forego modern trends in favor of 18th-century classical composition. \nA classically trained singer\, Kira began studying voice and piano at the age of nine. She grew up participating in local competitions and theater productions\, and composed music on GarageBand for much of her childhood. After singing in several acts as an adult\, Kira decided to form her own project in 2021. She has also been studying audio production and works as a freelance mix engineer. \n \n\nSSAANN is a Synth/Dreampop band from Milwaukee\, WI.  Combining atmospheric guitar\, lush synth\, and echoey vocals\, their atmospheric sound provides a sweet’n spacey escape. Influenced by Beach House\, STRFKR\, Patrick Watson. \n \n\nDisposable Thumbs is a new power pop trio from Milwaukee that mixes elements of smooth jazz\, shoegaze\, and psychedelia to create tunes as bizarre as they are addicting. Expect a constant flux between jangly grooves and fuzzed out fury (with a good dose of phaser). They are currently recording their first EP! \n\nWhether recording or performing live\, Orange Drink plays music to find catharsis. Jumping from electronic rock to indie folk to videogame dance\, the sounds and genres stay in flux\, with the focus on delivering artful and entertaining ways to confront the anxieties of life as an outsider seeking community. \n \n\nDoor at 7pm\, Music at 8pm\, $12
