SUMMARY:August 22\, 2020
DESCRIPTION:Though venues are closed\, music persists. Ilan Eckhardt and Jonny Bartlett are going to dazzle us with some solo sets. More performers tbd; PM Jonny for inquiries if you wanna play. \nFresh off his BANGIN new single\, “Backbeat\,” Ilan brings an exciting mix of funk\, soul\, and pop to his song craft. Combined with his virtuoso instrumental and vocal skills\, his songs make you want to get up off your couch and dance in front of your computer. \nJonny writes songs about his feelings and sings them goodly. Inspired by better artists such as Neil Young\, Conor Oberst\, and Justin Vernon\, his personal lyrics and straightforward melodies tell stories of friendship\, pain\, and love that make you wanna laugh and cry and hug a kitten. \nShow will be streaming on Linneman’s Riverwest Inn Facebook page beginning at 8pm!

DESCRIPTION:Mahmoud Amireh is well known in Milwaukee’s Riverwest Neighborhood as the jolly Oud player and cashier behind the counter at Sunrise Foods for many years.  Recently retired\, Mahmoud is now again pursuing what has always made him most happy in life:  Music! \nMahmoud’s love for music began at an early age in his home country of Jordan.  At 10-years-old\, he learned how to play the accordion in grade school.  His next endeavor involved taking classes in high school to learn the Turkish instrument called the Oud.  Soon he and some friends started a band\, playing graduation and wedding parties. After high school\, he joined the Jordan Army Band as a professorial musician\, also taking up another beloved instrument\, the Saxophone!  After 16 years\, Mahmoud retired from the Jordan Army Band with honors! \nIn the early 2000’s he and some fellow band members came to America for the first time\, hired by Arabian Fest on the site of Milwaukee’s Summerfest grounds. He loved Milwaukee so much he decided to stay! Now retired from Sunrise Foods\, Mahmoud is beginning to take up music again. \nTonight’s show is open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Live shows at Linneman’s cancelled until further notice. \nAn evening of music\, satire\, and social commentary with Tom Neilson\, a Massachusetts singer-songwriter and activist\, to benefit Veterans for Peace. .Neilson provides a voice for those who believe in the power of folk music to effect change. \nIt’s a return engagement for Neilson\, who delighted the audience at last year’s VFP benefit\, the second time he had played Milwaukee. \nHis award-winning songs of humor and compassion have been performed in 21 countries on 5 continents. His lyrics are celebrated for their sophistication\, political astuteness\, & wit. \nCombining art with activism\, he has appeared with Medea Benjamin\, Cynthia McKinney\, Amy Goodman\, Cindy Sheehan\, Cesar Chavez\, Noam Chomsky\, Ralph Nader\, Ray McGovern\, Howard Zinn\, David Cobb\, many others\, & played at the Martin Luther King Center in Havana\, Cuba. \nHis travels are reflected in his songs\, intertwined with farm roots and a fervent commitment to social justice\, as he writes about historical and current events. He has been at the forefront in helping communities organize against water privatization\, mountain top removal\, nuclear energy\, incinerators\, GMOs\, fracking\, & toxic waste. \nKnown locally as the Bard Insurgent\, Tom is a veteran of stage and street theater with his writing\, acting\, and directing. His songs draw the listener into his musical response to globalization. \nHe plays at union halls\, colleges\, conferences\, cafes\, house concerts\, and has performed for countless benefits and causes. His music has been used in documentaries\, TV shows\, stage and street theater as he tells the stories of people’s struggles against greed & violence\, interjecting a good deal of levity along the way. If you ask him\, he’ll tell you he’s just a farm boy with a guitar who loves a good ball game and human rights. \nA $15 donation is suggested\, but a contribution of any amount wlll be gratefully accepted.

SUMMARY:April 18\, 2020
DESCRIPTION:Shows at Linneman’s cancelled until further notice because of Covid-19! \nLast March\, Twin Brother officially came to an end. The conclusion of the Milwaukee project—that managed five releases between its 2013 formation and 2019—was announced by singer\, songwriter\, and founding member Sean Raasch in a video message. \n“Twin Brother is over\,” Raasch said in the video. “Something new is on the way\, but I don’t know when. I don’t know what it’s called. I don’t know what it sounds like. I don’t know anything about it yet\, but it is coming.” \nFortunately\, listeners didn’t have to wait very long to hear what Raasch had up his sleeve. Before year’s end\, the motivated musician resurfaced with a new project called Reins Daily\, which released a debut album and played its first live outing in December. With a new identity\, new material\, and a new focus as Reins Daily\, Raasch is prepared to start 2020 strong with more performances\, another record in the works and\, as of today\, a brand new music video. \nThe video for “The Rest Of My Life” finds the solo artist (who also handled videography and recording duties) braving the elements to film along the shores of Lake Michigan during some less-than-ideal conditions on Milwaukee’s South Shore. The crashing waves\, whipping winter winds\, and overcast skies ultimately prove to be well-suited for the song’s dour and emotional feel. \n“The theme\, more or less\, is about being so heavy with stress and everyday life and not even noticing the weight as a little is added over so much time\,” Raasch says. “The hope comes in as the storm washes away the pain for a second to allow you to feel light again and see clearly.” \n“The Rest Of My Life” is the first single from a forthcoming album Reins Daily will release at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn on April 18. The project will also play a show at Cactus Club on February 26. Before those shows and the record’s release\, you can watch the video for “The Rest Of My Life” now and stream the song on Spotify as well.    – Tyler Maas Milwaukee Record  /// \n\n\nMarielle Allschwang—songwriter\, vocalist\, multi-instrumentalist\, and member of some of Milwaukee’s finest ensembles (Collections of Colonies of Bees\, Hello Death)—sits at the center of the band she has named The Visitations\, where she “[commands] the stage with hushed intensity” while\, together\, her formidable ensemble “[make the past 20+ years of Milwaukee post-rock] thunder and glisten” (Evan Rytlewski\, Shepherd Express). At times gentle and beautiful\, at others brutal and terrifying\, “Allschwang’s voice seems familiar: it’s a timeless instrument\, full of sadness\, beauty\, and independence\, rooted in the fertile ground of Americana but twisted into the wilding sky of the avant-garde” (Matt Wild\, Milwaukee Record). /// \nJim Linneman is a part time acoustic guitarist and singer. \n

DESCRIPTION:Shows at Linneman’s cancelled until further notice because of Covid-19! \nRocket Cat – Guitarist Chris Guse\, bassist Dave Maurer\, drummer Steve Vorass\, and vocalist/lyricist Suzanne Singh skillfully blend their backgrounds in alternative\, progressive and hard rock\, as well as power pop. Drawing heavily from the music of their youth\, the band’s sound is fresh yet familiar. A careful listen often reveals an 80’s influence in a guitar riff\, drum beat or vocal melody. The direction of the songs are often unpredictable yet accessible\, sparking connections then slipping just out of reach. The songs are written with lush instrumental and vocal layers\, giving them depth and fullness. Listeners can focus on the groove at the surface or immerse themselves into the density of the lyrics\, melody and musical texture. \nJennifer Andrea and The Drive Down is a musical collective with piano driven singer songwriter roots\, Mike Henderson on trumpet/synth/vocals\, Ben Koshick on guitar\, Lo Lee on bass\, and Greg Wroblewski on drums\, they play both originals and covers. \nLet’s Get Weird \nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8!

DESCRIPTION:Shows at Linneman’s cancelled until further notice because of Covid-19! \nRolling through the heartland of Americana rust\, J.R. & The Strangers are on a roots rock mission to write songs and rattle stages. \nWire & Nail formed in early 2017\, when members of multiple Milwaukee bands bonded over their love of Outlaw Country and Classic American Rock N Roll. Like many of their influences\, Wire and Nail strive to write and perform music that is genuine\, enjoyable and unapologetic. \nEntering their sixth year of writing original music together\, what sets Tangled Lines furthest apart from other acts is their instrumental approach. The Welsh/British influences of lead singer James Davies\, make peace with traditional American sounds without overpowering them. \nCalifornia Jeff‘s music is truly Americana; a combination of folk\, bluegrass\, and blues with a laid back Midwestern sensibility and a working class mentality. He blends seasoned acoustic guitar playing with a distinctive voice to craft a sound that can instantly be recognized as his own.

Bill writes and arranges his own material and has produced a considerable body of work. Bill was an integral part of the Milwaukee acoustic folk scene for many years and appeared regularly at various clubs including the Blue River Café\, Numero Unos\, The Crystal Palace\, The Avante Garde and the 19th Street Coffee House. \nBand Members\nJASON KLAGSTAD – Guitars\, backing vocals – Jason is considered one of the top live and studio musicians in the Milwaukee area and has been playing professionally for over 45 years. \nHe has been a member of several area and nationally known bands\, including stints with Howie Epstein (Tom Petty)\, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)\, Arroyo\, Color Radio\, Warner Bros. recording artist\, Semi-Twang\, Bill Camplin (since 1974) and the local rock band favorite\, Plumb Loco. His distinctive guitar playing style has been featured on many recordings. With Peter Buffet for example\, he recorded film\, tv and recording projects\, appearing on 3 Buffett albums and the soundtrack for the Kevin Costner television special\, 500 Nations. During his performing/recording career\, Jason also ran several area music stores\, including his own – Big Music\, a specialty music instrument store\, until the mid1990’s. \nBOB ‘HOT DOG’ MUELLER – drums\, stoicism – Forty-plus years on the SE Wisconsin music scene. A couple of friends needed a bass player and Paul\, always the organizer\, agreed. From 1974 – 1982 Paul co-founded and played with both RIO and Arroyo\, two of the region’s seminal Country Rock bands. His early immersion in that genre provided a deep connection with Bill Camplin’s material. \nAfter his four year stint with Arroyo he became one of region’s top studio engineers\, typically working out of Waukesha’s Breezeway studios producing albums for many regional and national Artists. During this time he also played for many years with local cover rock band\, Plumb Loco. Today\, Paul is a property manager and lives in Elm Grove with his wife Jane.
