SUMMARY:January 13\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Hurd & Galante are a folk-rock ensemble led by guitarists and songwriters Shawn Alan Hurd and Joseph Galante. After cutting their teeth in some of the legendary folk clubs of Boston\, Massachusetts the pair split up across the country to ply their hands in other trades. Reconnecting years later in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin they have blended their unique collections of acquired experiences and influences to emerge with a new voice. A temporal voice that speaks of travels down the ambiguous tracks of time. \n \n\nCombining a touch of the high and lonesome hollers of the Appalachian hill people with the low-down\, dusty grooves of the cosmic cowboys\, Dandy L. Freling has created a unique sonic banquet sure to satisfy the hunger of any weary passerby. So don’t be afraid to stop awhile. And fill up your plate\, there’s plenty to go around. \n \n\nLyrid is a new music project by Milwaukee musician Elisabeth Gasparka. \n \n\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10.

DESCRIPTION:GEORGE SHEPPARD’S 50TH BIRTHDAY SHOW!!! \nat Linneman’s\, December 27th! Doors at 7pm\, Music at 7:30pm \n-JOSEPH HUBER- \n[Americana; Folk; Folk Rock; Singer-songwriter; Alt-Country] \nJoseph Huber – guitar / harmonica / percussion. (previously with .357 String Band) \nEston Bennett – upright bass. (also with the Thrifttones and E.B. Albeit) \nKenny Leiser – fiddle. (also with WheelHouse and Old Soul Society) \n“…It has been said\, “You don’t just like Joseph Huber’s music. You feel it’s something that the rest of the world needs to hear\, and how criminal it is that it isn’t spreading far and wide.” That sentiment could be related to the fact that the voices which Huber unearths are subtle and take more than a hurried listen to truly absorb. A person who appears reserved and matter-of-fact in everyday speech brings forth songs that are anything but that. \nAs the singer\, songwriter\, performer\, recorder and producer of all of his own material\, Huber has his hands full\, but never seems to miss a beat. And his own ‘solo’ material has now certainly surpassed the output of his past efforts\, both in volume and substance. As one of the founding member of the .357 String Band–a group that would probably fit better in today’s ‘Americana-saturated’ environment than in the early to middle aughts–he’s gradually honed a sound that seems to fill a very real gap within the still-emerging genre. Having progressed\, Huber continues moving onward and upward captivating folks with his sincere and well-crafted songs under his own name along with the impeccable musicianship of his fellow touring partners. Whether it’s irresistible\, fiddle-driven\, dancing tunes or honest\, heart-wrenching “songwriter” songs\, Huber’s songs and shows spans the spectrum of ‘Roots’ music while preferring not to stay within the boundaries of any strict genre classification….” \nhttp://www.josephhubermusic.com/bio.html \nhttps://www.facebook.com/josephhubermusicprofile \nhttp://www.josephhubermusic.com/home.html \n \n\n-JAYKE ORVIS- \n[Roots; Gothic/Alt-Country; Bluegrass; Folk; Americana; Blues] \n(previously with Penalty Box\, .357 String Band\, and Jayke Orvis & The Broken Band; currently with Goddamn Gallows) \n“…he effortlessly infuses punk\, rock\, blues\, gypsy\, honky-tonk\, bluegrass\, and old-time to develop a style all his own helping to define the sound of a genre while simultaneously\, and gratifyingly\, making it all that much more difficult to pin a name onto.” \nhttps://www.facebook.com/jayke.orvismusic \n \n\n-POISON HAND- \nMilwaukee Punk Rock \n(Made up of members from Assault and Battery; Convert; Get Rad; Cry Coyote.) DESCRIPTION:Lunar Ticks are an eclectic Improvisational/Alternative Rock band from Chicago\, IL.  \nThe band is influenced by the songwriting and studio experimentation of 90’s and 2000’s innovative Alternative/Indie rock bands like Wilco\, My Morning Jacket\, The Flaming Lips\, Ween\, Yo La Tengo\, Pavement\, and Dr. Dog\, and fuses it with genre-bending\, progressive musicality\, and exploratory improvisations in the vein of The Grateful Dead\, Phish\, and Umphrey’s McGee. \nLunar Ticks are equally at home on a bill with a folk singer\, punk band\, free jazz ensemble\, you name it. Each setlist is formed from their diverse and expansive song list of originals and covers; debuting new material at almost every show. Extended improvisational passages can turn on a dime or meditate and unfurl in unexpected ways. Lunar Ticks aim to create a unique and memorable experience every time they pick up their instruments. \n \n\nKyle John Kenowski is a Milwaukee based musician and animator whose music is best described as “classical psychedelic folk pop”. His music ranges from triumphant to devastating\, from scary to sweet\, decorated with lilting classical guitar passages and a thousand different voices. In November 2020 he released the animated music video TRUSTWORMY which was published by Adult Swim alongside his album NEED DISEASE. \n \nDoors at 8pm\, show at 9pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Doors at 6:30p | $12 cash.  Join Wildered\, Zach Pietrini\, and Fressure Point for a can’t-miss night of live music!\n\nWildered brings their full band to Milwaukee for the first time in a blend of folk music and banjos with synths and full band energy. A collective project of artists and musicians from across the US\, spearheaded by singer-songwriter Nate Bjorge. Wildered has released six singles\, is currently promoting their debut album\, and travels the US to share a unique live experience that brings these songs\, as well as a unique digest of covers\, to life. This project was birthed out of a need to express life’s afflicting or ‘wildering’ experiences through honest lyrics and stories\, unique sounds\, and a diverse sonic spectrum. Follow @wilderedmusic everywhere or stream now at linktr.ee/wilderedmusic or wherever you listen \n\nZach Pietrini’s Midwestern\, indie-americana songwriting aesthetic is the sonic embodiment of a well-worn denim jacket. At the forefront of the Americana resurgence\, the band takes its cues from Tom Petty\, Bruce Springsteen\, and David Ramirez\, reinterpreting and rejuvenating American roots styles through a contemporary lens. Pietrini came up on the Chicago music scene before moving to Milwaukee\, where he honed his signature “foot-tapping and pensive steel-guitar-driven” style (Milwaukee Magazine). The band has also toured prolifically throughout the United States\, including opening for Huey Lewis and the News and playing SXSW. Pietrini’s dynamic live performances are intimate\, yet high-energy\, and his laid-back stage presence brings a very Wisconsin sense of genuine friendliness to his shows.\nThe band is touring this fall on its new LP\, Rock & Roll is Dead.\nwww.zachpietrini.com\n\nFressure Point joins the evening’s festivities.\n\nDoors at 6:30pm\, Show at 7:30pm\, $12

DESCRIPTION:UWM food pantry benefit with Eccentric Acoustic and Acoustic Anarchy! Doors at 3pm\, show at 4pm\, Donation at door goes to the UWM Food Pantry!! \n\nEccentric Acoustic is a trio featuring Ruth Williams on mandolin\, Sandy Stehling on guitar\, and Scott Emmons on bass. They perform a wide variety of music\, ranging from swing era jazz and country blues to more contemporary country\, folk\, and Americana. \nRuth Williams started singing harmony while doing the family dishes with her sister. She currently sings with Milwaukee’s Bel Canto Chorus. Ruth forsook the autoharp for the mandolin some years ago and has been a stalwart member of the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra for more than twenty years. Sandy Stehling began playing guitar as a way to avoid studying while attending UW-Madison. His transcript shows the success of this strategy. The lively folk music scene on campus at the time was a major influence. He has been heard playing as a soloist and in various groups in the Milwaukee area for many years. Scott Emmons\, a multi-instrumentalist\, is dean of the UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts. He performs in a classical guitar quartet\, plays mando-cello in the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra\, and is the director of the New Horizons Band in Waukesha. Ruth and Sandy have been making music together since they first met some thirtyyears ago. They have played with Scott informally in various musical gatherings in the Milwaukee area\, and have enjoyed collaborating with Scott seriously for the past four years. The process of combining three individuals’ musical tastes into an ensemble repertoire yields the serious fun that is Eccentric Acoustic.

DESCRIPTION:Two extraordinary Milwaukee area songwriters each performing acoustic-only solo sets! Matt kicks off this early show with a short set at 7pm! \n\nBill Camplin is a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist who began playing professionally in the Milwaukee Area in the late 1960’s. Bill writes and arranges his own material and has produced a considerable body of work. Bill was an integral part of the Milwaukee acoustic folk scene for many years and appeared regularly at various clubs including the Blue River Café\, Numero Unos\, The Crystal Palace\, The Avante Garde and the 19th Street Coffee House. This night Bill performs solo! \n\nSongwriter\, singer\, swimmer and father of four\, Matthew Davies is a busy man.  For the past decade he’s been fronting Milwaukee based band of ringers\, Thriftones\, as well as releasing solo work and performing regularly in multiple capacities. \nUnlike many artists who find their calling at an early age\, it wasn’t until flunking out of an accredited university\, taking a full time job as a butcher\, traveling aimlessly for years and eventually settling in Chicago that he started his musical journey in earnest. \nAs an active participant in the Chicago songwriting scene during the ’00s he cut his teeth at open mics and mingled with many of the musicians who are currently making big noise in the folk/Americana world. \nNow living in Milwaukee\, Matt has found the sweet spot between creative life and family life.  He and his wife\, a talented visual artist\, share a studio space and have somehow managed to avoid the traps typically associated with a growing family by making art and music a priority. \n \nDoors open at 6pm\, show at 7pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Jump The Bluff is a 4 piece Punk pop/Power Pop\, Rock N’ Roll band. Established in February 2022 and veteran Milwaukee musicians. The band have made a connection writing infectious songs that are very catchy and easy to listen too. Influenced by 70’s post punk\, 80’s New Wave and 60’s Garage rock. The band hoans their sound on melodic guitar melodies and a groovy rhythm section. Jump The Bluff have a couple of shows underneath their belt and will be hitting the studio this Fall to work on their debut lp. \n \n\n20 Minute Mission is a trio that calls Madison\, WI home.  With diverse influences and playing styles\, the group has brought an unique and refreshing aspect to punk rock/post-punk/alt rock music by meshing styles and abandoning stylistic dogma.  Not confined by established roles\, the members of the band actively switch instruments from song to song and this shows in the diversity of sound that is 20 Minute Mission. \nDrawing from their previous work: Mike (various regional bands from Buffalo)\, Steve (Billingsgate-from Chicago) and Joel (Rhinelander-from Milwaukee) have now all landed in Madison\, WI and have combined their tastes and abilities into something that is their own. Not letting Covid detour them\, 20MM has recorded two EPs while in their bubble; the first was a self-titled\, 8 song CD released in the  summer of 2020 and they just finished recording at Audio of the Arts  (located in Madison\, WI) and will be releasing “Down on Ruskin St” at the end of February 2021. The song 29 Palms\, off of the self titled first EP\, came in at #7 in Maximum Inks\, New Year Eve poll of the top 41 songs for 2020 in southern Wisconsin. \n \n\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm\, $10
