SUMMARY:January 19\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:The Porch Flowers (formerly called Half Past Dead) is a rock/country/folk band out of Madison\, WI.  With a tight set of core members plus an ever-changing cast of guest players and singers\, the Porch Flowers love spending their playing good ol’ rock n’ roll. Their sets change nightly with a healthy mixture of original compositions and covers of their idols. They prefer their shows to be loose and inviting: a good time is with the people around them\, friends and strangers\, reminding them that hanging and music is the best therapy. \n \n\n90 Proof is an eclectic mix of musicians with wildly different lives that were brought together by the love of music and performing. United in Madison\, 90-Proof has been busy creating and entertaining for only a short time together\, but the group has big plans for the future. Formed in 2021\, the jam-band collective decided to take things to the next level writing music and staging live performances for larger audiences. After just one year of performing the group was able to raise enough funds to record their first studio album\, Lucid Dream. Inspired by two years of personal and world struggles\, the album is something that is special to each member. Despite the changing times\, members coming and going\, and the sheer weight of the financial world\, the core of 90-Proof is still burning bright with new music on the horizon. \n \n\nOne Beer Please is one of Madison’s newest bands\, composed of musicians from a variety of backgrounds. As a result\, they don’t confine themselves to just one style! While focused on playing all waves of ska music\, they love combining it with other genres like jazz\, funk\, punk and more! \n\nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Dak DuBois:  Blending flavors of modern indie pop\, 70’s funk/soul\, and psychedelia of the ’60s/’70s\, dak duBois uses his intricately guitar-infused melodies and well-placed chilled-out pop vocals to unfold anecdotes of a blurred psyche within a changing dynamic of society. \ndak duBois is the solo project of Milwaukee-based artist Dak Wright. His self-titled album was written\, recorded\, mixed\, and mastered in his apartment-turned-studio and released in April 2023. He performs live shows with a rotating cast of local musicians (dak duBois &co)\, where sets bring funk-driven jammy overtones and memory-worthy experiences filled with high-level crowd engagement. \n \n\nWave Chapelle:  Born in 1994\, Radontae Ashford\, aka Wave Chapelle\, is a hip-hop artist from the north side of Milwaukee who grew up on the sounds of Kanye West\, Jay-Z\, and Drake. In 2013\, Wave made his debut with the mixtape It’ll All Make Sense Soon\, and in early 2014 he signed on to Yo Gotti’s CMG record label\, spending a few years learning from Gotti and performing all over the US and Canada. Wave has put out a steady stream of music over the last ten years\, and in the fall of 2022\, he partnered with the Milwaukee Bucks to become one of their official ambassadors. His music can be heard at every home game\, and he has performed in front of Bucks fans at Fiserv Forum on multiple occasions. His newest album\, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop\, came out in early May. Wave is best known for songs like “Automatic”\, “Built Different”\, “Let It Breathe”\, and “Victory”. Wave has been busy this summer\, performing all over Milwaukee at some of the biggest events in the city\, along with out-of-town shows in Chicago\, Atlanta\, and Minneapolis. \n \n\nDoors at 7:00pm\, Music at 8:00pm\, $10

DESCRIPTION:Doors at 6pm\, Music at 7pm\, $12 ADV (The Longest Night: ANDII/Blacktop/Maximiano Tickets\, Thu\, Dec 21\, 2023 at 7:00 PM | Eventbrite)  $15 DOS \n\nBLACKTOP (MKE): https://blacktopmakesmusic.bandcamp.com/ \nBlacktop is the independent recording project of Milwaukee-based multi-instrumentalist and producer\, Austin Wood. Blacktop draws from a large pool of influence – from Ethiopian jazz and Latin rhythms of the 1960-70s to modern pop and alternative artists such as levitation room\, Babe Rainbow\, Skinshape\, Loving\, and Kate Bollinger. With nearly all recording\, mixing\, and production being done in Wood’s home studio\, the music of Blacktop is adorned with gentle and dreamy vocals\, washed-out guitars\, and acoustic percussion and rhythmic elements. The project’s core is rooted in the spiritual and Zen philosophy of dwelling in the present moment\, mindfulness\, and impermanence. Blacktop is able to be heard through the airwaves on 889 Radio Milwaukee\, and is featured on Lilliput Record’s “Local Milwaukee Showcase”. \n \n\nWhen singer-songwriter Max Janairo (they/them) performs by themself\, they go by their full first name: Maximiano. For the last year and a half\, Max has been writing and releasing music as part of the local band Crawlspace\, during which time many songs that didn’t fit that group’s aesthetic were stored away. Since the band’s break-up\, these songs have found new life and new meaning. Riding waves of indie folk orchestration\, Maximiano’s plaintive voice conveys the heartbreak\, love\, and growth that continue to define the artist’s musical experiences. In live solo performances\, Maximiano offers an intimate experience\, one that lets the communal love of music overtake and renew the emotion of these songs. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nBorn and raised in the Good Land\, ANDII has been making music for more than a decade. Her powerful\, transcendent voice draws from the traditions of American jazz and folk vocalists of the 50’s and 60’s\, while her writing and performative style lean towards contemporary Pop & Rock N’ Roll sensibilities. With an air of vulnerability and humility throughout her lyricism\, she offers a unique perspective into the world of relationships—relationships with others\, with Mother Earth\, and with ourselves. \n \n\n\n\n\n  \n\nDoors at 6pm\, Music at 7pm\, $12 ADV (The Longest Night: ANDII/Blacktop/Maximiano Tickets\, Thu\, Dec 21\, 2023 at 7:00 PM | Eventbrite)  $15 DOS

Sometimes the band writes them for themselves\, other times they pay a bunch of money to have a professional do it. Well\, instead of that whole hoopla\, I’m just going to explain why I think Sarah and I find serious amounts of joy in making music together. We met back in the early days of Dead Horses and Horseshoes & Hand Grenades. Those are our two “main bands”\, ya know\, our day jobs. Anyhow\, we immediately hit it off and became friends. I think there was a sense of musical and life curiosity\, as well as mutual respect\, that drew us together. That feeling led to us hanging out at my college rental house in Stevens Point. We started playing music together and there was this wonderful and immediate sense of chemistry. The floors were wooden\, and I think that made the sound sparkle a little bit too. That really was the first night of “Rucksack Revolution”. Since then\, our friendship and our music have grown and created some great nights of music and magic. Sometimes we play songs we’ve recently written\, other times we play songs from Dead Horses or Horseshoes\, and sometimes we even play songs we’ve never played for anyone before. Sometimes we feel real high\, sometimes we feel real low. I think we take comfort and pride in the acceptance that we have for one another and I think that creates a relaxed feeling that can lead to some beautiful sounds. In the spring and summer of 2021\, we decided to go to a recording studio and lay down some music that was uniquely us. It feels like that experience drew us musically closer yet and I feel great\, and grateful\, about what we created. People are always asking about the future and the past\, but sometimes it’s best to just see what is\, right now. When we get together\, we try to embrace that moment and hope that the folks that come around can join us in that. I think Sarah’s a wonderful songwriter\, a great human\, and a dear friend. I really\, really enjoy making music with her. How’s that for a damn bio? -Adam Greuel \nAdditional Information: “I see a vision of a great rucksack revolution thousands or even millions of young americans wandering around with rucksacks\, going up into the mountains to pray\, making children laugh and old men glad\, making young girls happy and old girls happier\, all of ’em zen lunatics who go about writing poems that happen to appear in their heads for no reason and also by being kind and also by strange unexpected acts keep giving visions of eternal freedom to everybody and to all living creatures.” -Jack Kerouac in Dharma Bums \n \n\nDoors at 7pm\, show at 8pm.  Tickets\, $20 advance\, $30 at the door.\, Advance tickets online here:  TBA soon!!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxing evening of songs\, stories and (in the case of Ricky) sleevelessness. Joking aside\, this promises to offer something for everyone\, with four original songwriters – Kurt Gunn\, Michael Grabner\, Tyler Sjostrom and Ricky Ganiere – taking the Linneman’s stage.\n$10 cover at the door\, 21+\, doors at 7pm music at 8pm.\n\n\n\nMichael Grabner is an Appleton\, WI based singer/songwriter who blends the intricate finger style guitar and down and out lyrics of Townes Van Zandt with the unique song structure and attention grabbing hooks of Elliot Smith. His unique take on Americana and roots music is informed by a diverse list of influences that range from Radiohead to Hank Williams. Michael recently released his second full length album\, “A Story I Can’t Tell”\, and was a 2023 Wisconsin Area Music Association finalist for singer-songwriter of the year and acoustic guitar player of the year. \n \n\n\n\nTyler Sj. Music:  It’s now or not at all – that was the thinking when Appleton WI acoustic singer/songwriter Tyler Sj. returned to live performing in late 2022 after a number of years away. But it turned out he’d found something to say in the interim. His catchy tellings of modern doubts and difficulties are widely relatable\, while the underlying themes of hopefulness and resilience help to keep the darkness at arm’s length. His debut album\, “Some Things Have Changed Since We Last Spoke\,” will arrive in early 2024. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nRicky Ganiere – “Stoker” has a well-documented life in music packed with albums\, collaborations and awards. But his songwriting focus today is not about what has been – it’s all about what is\, and what’s to come. Looking forward\, Ricky is putting his musical heart into new ideas for everyone ready to listen about – and share in – the happiness\, heartaches and hopefulness that shapes the world today as he sees and feels it. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nKurt Gunn is a pure songwriter\, equally informed and introspective. A talented guitarist and composer\, from a climate that compels musicians to devote compassion to their craft. From solo performer to bandleader\, with a style alternately whimsical and weighted\, added to a library of originals that have earned awards and praise from fans and critics alike\, Kurt Gunn is an artist you can’t ignore. \n \n\n\n\n\n$10 cover at the door\, 21+\, doors at 7pm music at 8pm.

We will have local musicians Monica Clare Murphy\, Anja & Dallas\, Ben Harold and Anja Elise performing a set with violinist Lisa Freigang concluding with the lost one. This will be a charity event benefiting Children’s Wisconsin’s hospital oncology ward with a $10 suggested donation. Doors at 6:30\, Music at 7:00pm. \nthe lost one is a song I wrote after several members of my family died in a short period of time. I wanted to express how I felt and being a violinist this translated into music. I brought the song to Anja Elise and together with local Milwaukee musician Dallas Brown a fully instrumented single emerged that explores the emotions of loss and coming to terms with grief. Many thanks to Anja Elise & Dallas Brown whom without lending their talents of performance\, co-writing and countless hours of mixing\, this single would not exist. Also thanks to Craig Freigang for drums\, Ella Freigang for the haunting artwork which graces the cover and Justin Perkins from Mystery Room Mastering.  This is lovingly dedicated to my sister Susan and my lost ones. We hope you enjoy this collaboration! \n \n  \n\nAnja Elise is a Milwaukee-based artist who has been writing music and performing locally since returning to the US after living seven years in Germany and the UK.  Eerie melodies\, extremely personal lyrics\, and unconventional song structures make up her definitive style.  She recently released her debut record titled “Salt & Sugar”.  Anja continues writing and collaborating on projects with other musicians\, including her partner Dallas Brown. \n \n  \n\nBen Harold is a phenominal singer/songwriter who grew up in northern Wisconsin on the small\, blue-collar Washington Island.
